  1. Review titled Derriford Accident and Emergency Department Thank You!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Darren E - Posted on 31 August 2022

I visited Derriford A and E department after contracting an infection and having heart palpitations. Right from entering the department you are met by volunteers who point you in the right direction to the Reception. It is all very orderly. The reception staff were very professional and gave me a form to keep hold of for Triage. Within 20 minutes of sitting down I was called to a room for Triage Assessment then I went back into the waiting room and shortly after that I was called to have an ECG and blood tests done. Following that I went back to the waiting room and hardly any time later I was called in to see a GP. Next was a wait of about 3.5 hours for the blood tests to come through so that I could see the GP again. I left the department after about 5 hours in total and I was absolutely in awe of what I had just experienced. The staff were brilliant, professional but friendly at the same time. I felt completely at ease from the moment I entered. I know how busy they all are so I promise to try and stay away in the future. I just want to finish off this extremely review with a huge thank you to each and everyone that works in the Accident and Emergency Department at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. You are all amazing!

  2. Review titled Brilliant team and service

I took my mum to ED after she broke her wrist doing the st Luke’s midnight walk. Every single member of the team were compassionate, caring and provided outstanding care. The waits are lengthy but you accept that and people fail to remember ED is for emergencies. Thank you ED you were amazing

  3. Review titled Waiting times unexceptable

Rated 1 star out of 5

I found out today that you are not permitted to drop of injured people at derriford a+e entrance anymore as it is only reserved for emergency vechiles only. The nearest drop off point in on the pavement on the road. I drove through the no entry sign which is where the amblelances drive out as this seemed the only way in. My wrife waited four hours to be told she could easily have to wait another sixteen before being treated. She left without being treated and I brought her home.

I would like to apologise to you for the delay you experienced within our Emergency Department. I am sure you will have seen in the national and local media that we are experiencing unprecedented demand in both the community and our hospitals. In addition to this, we currently have a high number of patients who are ready for discharge but are unable to leave due to a lack of care home beds and staff to provide care in the community. All of our beds are fully open but we are currently using several wards to care for patients suffering with COVID. These areas were previously used for emergency admissions as well as patients who needed planned operations. All of these things in combination have had a big impact on our Emergency Department. At times this has meant that we are unable to safely bring in patients from ambulances and patients wait for many hours for an inpatient bed. The team in the Emergency Department and throughout the hospital are working exceptionally hard to deliver the safest care they can. The whole health care system are working to find solutions to this. Unfortunately, the drop off area is closed at the moment due to an incident but it will be reopened in the future. Kind regards Chelsea Harris Clinical Admin Manager – Emergency Department

  5. Review titled Kind and helpful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Leigh - Posted on 23 July 2022

Very impressed with the fast track service for my grandsons cancer. We live 2 hours away from Plymouth and were unsure of the hospital layout . Without exception nurses, doctors approached us asking if we needed help , directing us to shortcuts, showing us where we needed to be and being so kind, helpful and friendly. At a time of great anxiety it was so refreshing to be treated so courteously and we felt relieved he was in such safe hands. We now understand why he insisted on being treated in Plymouth instead of coming home! Thank you so much

  7. Review titled Extremely high water pressure

    by alphabb13 - Posted on 06 July 2022

My operation was in June and for two weeks I haven't been able to get up and about. But with all my canular etc now removed I thought I'd try to have a soothing shower and that is my issue. The water pressure is extremely high, you cant tolerate standing in the spray, it hurts. I would be proud to own a jet washer with such pressure. Please could maintenance adjust the water pressure it is unbearable. This is not a moan but a practical request. My care has been exemplary, your staff are great and very caring. Thankyou
