  1. Review titled A very big thank you

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nick Shapland - Posted on 22 October 2022

I would like to convey my thanks to all those Freedom Unit staff who were involved in my operation yesterday (211022). I particular I would like to thank The surgeon of the Urology department and all the theater staff whose professionalism and knowledge put me instantly at ease. Everyone I encountered were warm, genuine caring people. They explained what was going to happen, repeatedly checked my identity and the reason for my attendance and left me in no doubt I was in good hands. The NHS has been heavily criticized in recent years but my experience deserves nothing but praise. The surgeon was very professional and managed to find the time to speak to me before the operation and after informing me of the result. He is clearly well respected by the theater staff who worked very well together as a team. I had to wait in the recovery room for a few hours before I got a lift home and all the staff were very attentive and I witnessed a great team spirit as they all supported each other in their tasks. Once again you have my sincere thanks Note I am not permitted to name anyone in this review so I have used "The Surgeon" Nick Shapland

  2. Review titled Endless gratitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paige - Posted on 03 November 2022

I cannot thank the staff who saw me enough. I went into a&e a bit anxious, as a young female I had been told for months and months by services that my symptoms were in my head/I was ‘too young to experience this’, on this particular day the symptoms got unbearable and so I went to a&e, and I am so glad I did, right from the start I was listened to and taken seriously. within 3 hours I had a diagnosis, treatment plan and referral to a specialist in place. I know as drs/hcas/nurses it’s most likely a normal day in the life! But for me I went home and cried, I was so relieved that all I could do was cry! for the first time I had been listened to, I had the correct tests ran, my gender nor age were mentioned or the possibility it was in my head and I got a diagnosis which meant I could now start to treat my symptoms, Being told things like “if you were a 40 year old man we’d be rushing you to hospital” and “you’re a teenager so it’s unlikely it’s anything other than in your head” when I knew something was wrong was the most frustrating thing, my condition was impacting every single part of my day to day life and no one was listening to me, until I saw the team I saw in a&e. Both my family and I will always hold the utmost gratitude for every single person I saw, from the Dr to the receptionist. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening to me and caring for me. Particularly the nurse/hca who right off the bat told me “it’s okay, I believe you” and the Dr who took his time to put himself in my shoes detailing how he wants me to see a specialist because as a young person it’s probably confusing and overwhelming, I thank you for doing more than just medicine. You’ve all made a bigger impact on my life than just simply giving me a diagnosis, after years of struggling and getting worse, you made me feel heard and given me a voice. I thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart and I wish you nothing but the best in your medical careers.

  3. Review titled One year on from my renal transplant

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julia Marlow - Posted on 09 October 2023

Tomorrow (10th) will be 1 year since I had my 3rd kidney transplant. I wanted to say how outstanding may care was on Mayflower ward, all of the staff went above and beyond to make sure I was well cared for and reassured especially as I was not allowed any visitors during my 11 day stay, & was along way from home. I am now back with Treliske for all my aftercare, but just wanted to acknowledge what a fantistic team they are, from the servers and cleaners, to the hca's, nurses, junior Dr's( esp the one who accepted my kidney, & it was the first one he had accepted) & the consultants. I cannot thank you all enough. I am doing well btw , & thinking of you all, & my donors family over the next few days

Dear Mr Blatchford, I am sorry you have to chase your appointment with our service. Rest assured you have not been forgotten and an appointment will be arranged for you. We endeavour to book our patients for their follow up appointments as soon as we can. If we cancel an appointment, we try to arrange the rebooking as soon as possible for all our patients. The department has been under a lot of pressure recently with waiting list numbers, but we would like to assure you that we are working incredibly hard to see as many patients as we can with the capacity, we have available. We book our patients in order of clinical priority no matter how young or old they are. Again, I am sorry you have had to chase your appointment. 5. Review titled Great treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Neil Harding - Posted on 02 October 2022

As a Holidaymaker from Bristol, I had two accident's in just one week. It was only for Minor Injury. Started with two arm injury and then two leg injury. What A&E Staff have to put up with. Having been a Hospital Porter I know how it can be. I was seen by the same Young nurse both times, She was Brillant and the whole staff was as well and they phone us because we left my paperwork there. Could do with a Bigger A&E dept. They cannot help the way the NHS is but as a 67 year old man I can see it all going Private.

I visited A&E due to severe toothache which I was in tears and agony over and a woman from the oral surgery department came and saw me and she was amazing!!! I wish I got her name but I had been in agonising pain for weeks and this was the first time, a professional had actually listened to me!

I have just had a ultrasound appointment , from the moment I entered the department and was welcomed with a happy receptionist, who was a credit to the hospital, I was welcomed to my appointment, the Hca and radiologist were very friendly explaining what was going to happen and very professional making me feel at ease. The whole experience was positive and I came away feeling well looked after.

  8. Review titled Absolutely terrible.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jack - Posted on 01 September 2022

I (Aged between 16-17, and disabled) waited 14 hours to be told to go back to my local area for treatment, except I could barely walk. During these 14 hours I was belittled and humiliated by the majority of staff, left screaming in agony and all while having no adults present. I was on a medicine that I could have had a reaction to as I had never taken. Staff shouted at me for being autistic, then lost me when my mum arrived at 7am to look after me - a member of public had to direct her. I was left dehydrated, with no access to help, water or a toilet - in a 35 degree heatwave! I am now suffering nightmares as a result of the horrendous treatment I received. A formal complaint has been lodged (some actions are being taken to prevent this, I do have to praise the response to the formal complaint), but now I am scared to see any of my doctors, which as a disabled person is a major problem. Would not wish on my worst enemy.

Was admitted to Neuro ward, after feeling terrified and lonely I was put at ease by my neurosurgeon who explained everything in a way I was able to understand. Since being discharged I have been looked after more than I could ask for and feel more at ease with my condition.

I want to thank the wonderful staff at your Xray department. From the cheerful receptionist, to the nurse fitting a canula,to the nurse who patiently helped me through the procedure,(a colonography),to the kind nurse who sat with me afterwards. The whole experience was professional, speedy, and, above all, with kindness. Thank you.
