  1. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andrea Gibson - Posted on 03 April 2023

I was admitted to A&E on evening of 30/03/23 and treated by the Minor Injuries team. Thank you seems too small a word but, it is very heartfelt. The care I received was outstanding and I cannot praise the team highly enough for helping me when I was in such pain. You are truly a well oiled, professional, caring, competent and efficient team. With much gratitude.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. It is always pleasing to hear comments like yours, especially during these difficult times. You’ve seen first-hand how busy the department can get so a compliment is really appreciated and will be passed on to the whole ED team. I hope you are now on the mend. Thanks Chelsea Chelsea Harris Clinical Admin Manager for ED

  2. Review titled Great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Amy Elizabeth Roberts - Posted on 28 June 2023

From the moment I entered post-bridge ward to the minute I left, the staff was so caring and put me at ease. It was the first time I ever had an operation and it was on my back. The staff that came and saw me from the very beginning of my operation to when I left was amazing. They made sure I was comfortable, that I wasn't in much pain. They let my family know how I was doing whenever my husband phoned up.

  4. Review titled Excellent care from Derriford colorectal people

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Roy Keith Jackson - Posted on 13 March 2023

Two days ago I was discharged to my GP after 5 years of follow-up care following successful emergency surgery for acute colon cancer. The follow-up care comprised colonoscopies, scans, blood tests and regular consultations. From beginning to end, the colorectal consultant, nursing and administrative staff were efficient, informative and kind. My deep-felt thanks to all of you.

  5. Review titled Great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Brian Johns - Posted on 13 March 2023

My wife was brought in with a severe stroke.from the time of calling 999 and my wife being transported by ambulance to the derriford was 20mins.We were down here on holiday at the time.I cannot praise the staff other than say they were so fantastic. They did everything they could to save my wife. They were so caring right to the end of her life. Since she passed away the backroom staff took over and so caring. This is a very sad time to lose someone after 40years of being together.Living some 2040miles away has not proved a problem. Even the funeral arrangements have made so simple.Thank you all for everything you have done for me at this very sad time. You have all been so very kind

  6. Review titled bad service regarding making appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Miss Amanda Hawkins - Posted on 10 March 2023

I kept getting recorded phone messages asking me to confirm who I am and to press blah blah each time on my phone, and to speak to an agent to make an appointment, each time, no agents available. Tried calling, could not get through, sent a letter to make an appointment, then got a letter make saying I'm removed from waiting list. Annoyed.

I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties. The calls originated from the automated partial booking service that we use via Netcall. The service is proven to increase outpatient utilisation and reduce non-attendance and we need to ask for some details to maintain confidentiality. Unfortunately, the queue times have been higher than we strive for recently, especially over the last week due to the strike action and clinics being cancelled for this. I can see your waiting list has been reinstated and by way of this email, I will ask for you to be called directly by an agent to book the appointment, so you should hear from us soon. Please accept our sincere apologies for the issues you have faced with the appointment booking process, we are working hard to improve queue times and agent availability. Thank you Laura Wallace | Outpatient Appointment Centre Manager

  7. Review titled Worst hospital I've ever been.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 March 2023

I have lived up and down the country during illness and I'm greatful to the NHS, though derriford is beyond bad, its down right utter disgraceful, I was bought in by ambulance in an awful state, I was told I was urgent to sit down in the waiting room until I was seen, two hours go past and I'm nearly passing out, I was very visually struggling with chest pain and to breathe, I had to try ask someone if they knew I was there and of course instantly saw to, so basically I was forgotten about, when I asked someone what happen, give a shoulder shrug. I hate complaining about a free service, and if there was another hospital close I'd have gone there. Please for your own safety if its emergency and you can make it to a hospital further away, I promise you, you'll recieve much better treatment. I went torbay hospital and it was much better.

  8. Review titled Amazing service from an under pressure hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andy Benham - Posted on 29 March 2023

My wife came in on an ambulance, which was quickly despatched and crewed by the nicest people on the planet. After triage we spent some time with two other crews, both of whom were equally good, the level of care these people provide while waiting for a hospital bed is absolutely amazing, everyone is so helpful and catering under what are very difficult conditions. Once My wife was moved to a ward she got the best of care with quick delivery of a variety of test and a raid discharge once everything was sorted out. We were both very grateful to be in Derriford, we’ve always had great confidence in the staff there and this last visit was no exception.

  9. Review titled Fantastic service and great advice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Chris Rickard - Posted on 28 February 2023

I had to attend A&E on a Friday evening with suspected DVT. I was barely able to walk. I was seen quickly by a friendly, welcoming nurse and she took my bloods. The results were returned within 3hrs and I was given blood thinners to support me over the weekend. I returned to the acute assessment unit on Monday for an ultrasound and again was greeted by a friendly, approachable team of staff. At no point did I feel stressed by the situation and felt at ease throughout my both visits. I was seen for an ultrasound quickly with a clot being found. The doctor (whose name I sadly cannot remember) who then consulted with me was faultless. Very knowledgable and able to offer superb advice. I asked a lot of questions and he made me feel relaxed throughout the feedback. The whole experience of coming to Derriford makes me realise what a great service the NHS provide and I am very thankful to have been seen quickly and been given the course of treatment to support me on my recovery. Thank you to all the staff that helped me on both my visits.

  10. Review titled Appalling experience.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by James Read - Posted on 25 February 2023

I suffer with Fibromyalgia, CFS, Insomnia, Chronic lower back pain, neck pain, knee and hip pain. While explaining how unhappy I am in life due to my quality of life, and that I believe there is something that hasn't been diagnosed causing the issue, the consultant asked me "why do you want a label for it?" Aside from the fact that that's why people come to hospitals, to be diagnosed and treated, I was insulted that my in-depth answers were taken and ignored. I was treated with no compassion or understanding and am still having to put up with daily debilitating chronic pain, lack of energy, and having little to no restorative sleep. His solution was a body reprogramming course for I weeks, reading online materials, and no helpful medication or route to insomnia diagnosis and treatment. I can't be the best father to my 3yr old daughter, or the best partner to my woman, I barely shower or keep basic routines, and I can barely do any housework. I'm bedbound exhausted 14-18 hours a day with pain and no sleep, yet I'm expected to take up an 8 week course. Yet another specialist unit, another appointment, and yet again, I feel unlistened to, not taken seriously, and like I'm unable to get my life back. I hope others aren't in the same boat. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gainful Excersize Therapy, Body Reprogramming. These are not helpful therapies, and has been proven time over. Nice guidelines even stopped suggesting them! I asked to be taken off of the duloxitine as it's being used off-label for pain management but it's effects aren't noticed by me - the person I saw ignored that too. Recent studies also show chronic pain users that are perscribed antidepressants for off label pain management, 71% of patients end up with dementia or other memory issues. I'm heavily disappointed in my experience, and want to be taken seriously but this appointment has been more of the same previous experiences I've had. I understand I have neuropathic pain, but I also have chronic back and neck pain that the gabapentin simply won't touch, or my damaged knees and hip, or my burning feet, or lactic acid build up in muscles from simply walking 50 meters.
