Review titled Fantastic Support
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 23 January 2023
Sadly my 19 year old daughter took 50 sleeping pills. The A&E major team were so supportive and understanding and helped me through a very scary time. The comfort team in A&E is relatively new and I would have been at a loss without them. Thank you to all that cared for her and me. True Angels!

I want to thank the staff, from the ambulance staff to the doctors and nurses. They were amazing. Everyone was really helpful and nice. Nothing was too much trouble. You can see they really care. They were super busy and under pressure but just got on with it. Thank you

Moving to a new city means changing consultant and this is not easy. All the team at Ship Derriford Hospital made it extremely easy for me and with professionalism and care. My new consultant is not only friendly and caring but meticulous and attentive. Plymouth is my new home now and I feel completely safe with the care I receive from the clinic.

Review titled Amazing service and people
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lauren - Posted on 18 February 2023
I wanted to say a personal thank you to the incredible maternity department and community midwives who helped deliver our beautiful baby girl in January! I’ve never met such professional, compassionate people who can remain calm and provide every bit of comfort required during such an intense/ emotional time! You are all superhero’s!! Our whole pregnancy and birth experience wouldn’t have been what it was without the amazing staff, midwives and HCAs that have supported and cared for us throughout. No amount of thank you’s will ever be enough but we hope you all know you have touched our hearts and will remain a huge part of our lives forever! The service and advice we received on the day of labour and leading up to it was brilliant! The team could never do enough and even on the busiest day in triage and a department struggling for staff this never impacted the service they delivered or the compassion they showed - they went above and beyond for us and are a huge credit to derriford hospital! I can’t speak highly enough of our experience to everyone I tell and am only sad that after over 9 months of falling under the midwife care system we are discharged from service to the health visitor! If I had my way I’d still be going once a week for a catch up! You do not get the recognition you deserve but we will never forget you and everything you have done for us - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Review titled Efficient and Excellent A&E care.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sally - Posted on 18 January 2023
I attended A&E yesterday after having snapped my Achilles tendon. It was an experience I was not looking forward given the recent media hype. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised! Although the waiting area was very busy I was triaged within 10 minutes of arrival by a caring nurse and lovely doctor. They seemed happy in their work and took the time to explain everything to me. They set my leg in plaster and gave me some anti clotting medication. I also have an appointment at the fracture clinic tomorrow which is record time. Like I said.... pleasantly surprised and very thankful to the people that cared for me.

Review titled A distressing and concerning experience
by Gloria10 - Posted on 03 February 2023
I saw a nurse at the pain management clinic, it was a distressing and concerning experience. I have fibromyalgia, spinal problems and hip and knee problems. I’m in a lot of pain all the time. The nurse was condescending and quite intimidating, I felt like I was a nuisance and shouldn’t have been there. The nurse talked to me like you might talk to someone with learning difficulties, saying to me that I spend lots of time indoors because it’s my safe space, as if to say I have mental health problems, not seeming to accept I spend time indoors due to not being able to walk very well. The nurse kept insinuating that it’s in my head and if I let myself I can do anything, no offer of any pain relief, acupuncture or anything helpful, just wanted to palm me off on a group, for making people believe their pain is in their head, very concerning! Apparently, you have to accept the pain, shut up and get on with it, even when several consultants have told you your problems are very real. In my view, the pain clinic’s attitude really boils down to: the NHS can’t cope with these sorts of things and so they just tell you it’s your problem, get on with it.

Review titled Supportive and thorough team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Karen - Posted on 18 January 2023
Amazing support after a lung nodule found 2 months ago. The lung and chest department have been very supportive and excellent communication in all steps of my diagnosis. This also included all the staff, drs, nurses, porters etc throughout the hospital when having various scans and a biopsy. I suffer from complex PTSD and the hospital is a trigger after past events, nothing was too much trouble to help with this. Thank you for your lovely support and getting the answers needed :) I very much appreciate all the hard work you all put in!

Review titled Good experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jenny Tibbs - Posted on 25 January 2023
My elderly mum who is registered blind, post strokes, hearing and mobility challenges visited the Royal eye infirmary outpatients yesterday at Derriford hospital. She was dreading going as she is so frail but the staff were very efficient and friendly. They explained each process to her slowly and clearly which made the whole process bearable for her. We would both like to thank all of the nursing staff and consultant for their compassion and efficiency. She didn't feel left out of any conversations that happened Thank you

Review titled Lack of heating in Lynher H ward December 2022
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Mrs Gaskell Brown - Posted on 07 April 2023
I was admitted via A & E with rectal bleeding and spent 5 nights in hospital. Being moved from one ward to another in the middle of the night was very alarming. When trying to cope in Lyher H ward I found that there was no heat at all. I asked various people each day, including the consultant to report this but nothing happened. I tried find out a number for the buildings officer so i could report it myself but again no luck. Adjoining wards did have heat, I do hope this has been sorted out now. Also why have the wards got smooth floor covering but the toilets non-slip?

I apologise you felt the bay was cold on the ward. There were no issues with the heating, so I am unsure why this was the case. Sometimes the windows are often open for ventilation but I would expect patients to be offered extra blankets if they are feeling the cold. The flooring is all in line with Trust policy to maintain patient safety. I sincerely apologise that you were moved in the night. I understand this can be very traumatic. The Trust is experiencing high demands for inpatient beds and sometimes there is a delay in obtaining them until later in the day. I hope you have recovered well since being home.
