  1. Review titled Orthopaedic Surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jay - Posted on 30 August 2024

I injured my knee quite seriously last August 2023. I’ve had 2 mri scans one last year which showed I’d got tears in my meniscus, acl,mcl and bone marrow edema. I was under Mr O who was very thorough in explaining every injury that I’d done. After the 2nd mri in April this year, that showed that everything had cleared up apart from the meniscus and acl tears which had worsened. Thus I needed to have surgery. I had my surgery yesterday and the treatment from arriving at hospital at 07.15 the service was second to none. I went down for surgery at 08.40 having had visits prior to going to theatre from the nurse, Mr O, his registrar and the anaesthetist explaining everything that was going to happen. Everything went well and I was back home for 14.00. A special mention to Mr O’s secretary who in my eyes went above and beyond in her job. Keeping me updated on a regular basis and answered any questions that I had very clearly. She really is a credit to the hospital. The nurses on Orthopaedic’s were all very professional and friendly and coped well even when they were extremely busy and dealing with the odd obnoxious patient. I live in Lincoln, but if ever I required hospital treatment again, especially if it meant needing day surgery again, I would make The Princess of Wales Hospital my first choice. Thanks again.

  2. Review titled Excellent staff

My husband had to go to A&E as a tooth extraction had left him with continuous bleeding gums and he was losing quite a bit of blood. The nurses and doctor in A&E were lovely. Lots of attention and care. The problem was sorted with great after advice. Left feeling confident and reassured, thanks everyone.

  3. Review titled Amazing nursing staff

Nursing staff going above and beyond to make my mum comfortable and treating her with dignity and respect during 2 difficult procedures. The quality of care throughout, given by her consultant and department staff has been outstanding. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Great experience

We attended the hospital today for a physio pre op for a hip replacement. The small group was great, very informative and left us feeling very positive about the up coming surgery. We left with aids that would help and met people that will most likely be on the same ward.

The staff were kindness itself and very efficient. Every care was taken with the procedure to make it as comfortable as possible. Also the staff in the radioactive xray department, kind and caring.

  6. Review titled Undignified & judgemental

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Attended A&E today for persistent ear pain and not having slept well for over a week! GP already exercised & antibiotic medication for over a week unsuccessful. The response to myself was without uncertainty cold & judgemental. There was no kindness or warmth from the triage nurse or examining doctor both of ethnicity so maybe a cultural thing having lack of tolerance for my complaint???? As I am and was warm and polite. I was asked by triage nurse who looked at me blankly, why not go to GP. This was after id already having told her I'd been but continue to be in genuine pain despite using drops and pain killers. I was then left to wait for almost another hour for a simple prescription to be written! I cannot help but think 'punative'. Being a professional and having worked in the NHS for decades I know the basic standards that I should have recieved. Maybe staff are burnt out but no excuse for the service I recieved. Very disappointing, maybe more training in compassion needed....or there are plenty of super market jobs.

  7. Review titled Reassuring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Arrived at midnight worried and distressed. From check in to Dr consultation, even if I had to wait two hours it was worth it to get sorted and be reassured. Can't praise everyone enough from check in to the lovely people taking bloods to the kind doctor who spent time reassuring me.A great team who I can't praise enough

  8. Review titled Waste of time

Rated 1 star out of 5

Well I wish I could say I was surprised by the shocking service but I'm not. Yesterday I was taken to hospital via ambulance due to an asthma attack once there I was told I had high lactate levels, low potassium levels and was treated for them. And then told I've an infection and given antibiotics and sent home. The next day I have another sever attack (this makes 4 within a week) and was once again taken to hospital via ambulance and put in SDEC ward I waited over an hour to have my observations checked and only had them done when I told them I had had another asthma attack and taken my medication..... When I finally saw the doctor I was told to just keep taking my normal medication (which clearly isn't controlling my symptoms) and come back in Saturday for bloods..... I've wasted numerous amount of hours for nothing I have had no treatment whatsoever today and now have to come and sit back here another day to have my bloods done!! What's the point in me having an action plan for my chronic lung conditions if no medical professionals follow it!! Most likely I will end up back in withing the next few days

  9. Review titled Lackluster staff

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 April 2024

Mum receiving treatment for a really bad infection and yet she's had to deal with used sick bowls laying around because there's no one to collect and replace, the the staff even after multiple requests seem to forget and ignore issues, and when they are around they spend more time talking about outside work issues and non related rubbish that they ain't taking care of patients because they would rather chit chat between themselves. Have requested a nurse multiple times, as trying to get an alternative to solid foods because my mum isn't eating solids and when she does try it's just causing her to be sick, was promised stronger painkillers and still haven't received them, even after her blood pressure had risen to an acceptable level, doctor was meant to come again but hasn't bothered, I know they are busy but shouldn't have to wait all day for acceptable care, when the reason you are in hospital is because you can't treat things yourself its ridiculous, and they keep screaming about more money, well stop gossiping and start working, government needs to buck up there ideas and pay more staff and get them better warfare training, it's extremely needed. It's like decorum went out the window with the ark.

  10. Review titled Cardiology outpatient great experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After open heart surgery at another hospital I was discharged and told that yearly checks would now be done at another hospital within the trust.....so I expected to wait a good few months before receiving any notification of an appointment. Within week's of being discharged I was given an appointment that was initially cancelled but another appointment was scheduled very quickly, which I was really impressed with considering delays that have been occurring within the system. I thought I was just going for the usual chat and check up with a consultant so was really surprised when he did an ultra sound scan there and then...no appointment at radiology as is what I have been used to. The consultant was so thorough...had a fantastic manner and was very patient friendly and informative. My partner who was with me was equally as impressed as I was. The staff in the unit were extremely helpful and informative and the whole visit was a very pleasant experience. It was a great example of giving patients a comfortable and reassuring experience and from my point of view it's good to give people a pat on the back and to say well done and thank you.
