  1. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mary-Anne Osborne - Posted on 27 November 2024

I was really worried about this procedure after my previous experience at another hospital and have put off having it for a long time. The Endoscopy department was fantastic, from the receptionist to the nurses and doctors who did the procedure. Personable, caring and professional and I felt safe and that I was with a team of people who all worked together to make the patient experience the best it could be. Well done Dorchester hospital. You exceeded all my expectations and I am so pleased to be in your catchment area.

  2. Review titled Every member of staff were so kind

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by SusanTomes - Posted on 04 December 2024

My husband was taken to Dorset County as an emergency on 31/11/24 at around 7.30 p.m. with signs of a stroke. I left Swanage around 8.45 to drive to Dorchester. Arrived around 9.45 where I found him in A&E having had at CT scan, blood tests and he was wired up to the heart monitor. They were so kind and efficient, he was in good hands. They decided to keep him in for observation overnight. I said could I sit in a chair overnight as it was around 11.45p.m. This was not possible in the ward. However, when the Nurse returned they set up a camp bed for me in a bay opposite the Nurses station. The kindness and consideration we received was so remarkable. A Nurse brought me a cup of tea and a piece of toast as I had nothing to eat since lunchtime. Thankfully it was not another stroke, and I was able to bring him home on Sunday. I just want to say thank you to all the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and all other members of staff. You are so appreciated for all you do.

  3. Review titled Very concerning

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 November 2024

Phoned for advice as I was concerned about baby movements. Supposed to be a 24/7 service where you can be assessed day or night with any concerns. I was told the assessment centre was closed and had to go elsewhere to be assessed. Apparently they were turning all women away, including those in labour, because they were at capacity. As an anxious first time mum, this has really knocked my confidence in the services at this hospital, as well as in the nhs in general and puts me off having another baby. I feel very let down and unsafe that mine and other women’s concerns are not prioritised and dealt with sufficiently. The day assessment unit can be run by 1 person (at a push) as we have seen this happen before where 1 midwife is in charge of the unit and have just about managed to keep things running smoothly. As a result, my partner had to take time off work to take me to a hospital in a completely different county, where the parking was extortionate and a long journey time meant a lot of time, money and fuel was wasted. We weren’t even given the option to attend a more local service as there were no ctg monitors available at any more local maternity services or hospitals. Very unimpressed with the complete lack of care, especially when women and their babies are potentially at risk.

  6. Review titled Caring Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Karen Dungate - Posted on 11 August 2024

My husband was referred from Bridport A&E due to sustaining a head injury. He was triaged at Dorchester very quickly and taken to a cubicle. The whole staff were extremely helpful, polite and friendly. He was given full check up and then a CT scan to confirm no internal damage. Then taken to a waiting room and given a hot drink to wait for results. We were told could be between one and two hours. However results were very quick and luckily all was well. He had cannula removed and given an advice sheet. He was then free to leave. We cannot thank each member of staff individually but certainly every one in the department was very friendly and helpful. Thank you.

  7. Review titled NHS at it's best.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Simon - Posted on 22 August 2024

Unfortunately, I was blue-lighted in the very early morning hours to DGH A&E on arrival all the staff were like a well-oiled machine, fully explaining everything they were doing, and putting me at ease. as Sepsis was suspected medication was given immediately to battle any infection. During the night lots of tests were carried out, and at all times I was kept informed, why ? what ? how?. and being re-assured that I was going to be ok. I was discharged later that day as Sepsis was ruled out, We have some amazing staff at DCH. and thank you so much.

I would like to thank hca T on the cardiac care ward who looked after my nan. He showed great care even through difficulties and sought my advice when she shut down to him. His ability to relate to his patient and gain insight to her life and overall well being as a person to better help her was outstanding. I really do hope that you see this hca T as you deserve the praise. Thank you again to you and all of the team.

  9. Review titled A&E experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Geraldine Yates - Posted on 16 July 2024

I was advised by 111 to attend the urgent care Department at Weymouth Hospital, seen promptly and told I should go to Accident and Emergency at Dorset County Hospital. The waiting area was full, there was nowhere to sit, a child was vomiting into a plastic bag, another person waiting went to find a vomit bowl for the child, there were two other small children in the room. It appeared there was only one nurse triaging patients. No one was checking the waiting area After waiting for over an hour in severe pain, I gave up and went home, as I needed to take my prescribed analgesia. It appears there is no communication between the urgent care department at Weymouth and Dorchester Accident and Emergency, despite the fact that we are continually advised to seek help there or contact 111 before attending Accident and Emergency

  10. Review titled Amazing Care and Help

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Cindy - Posted on 25 June 2024

We were on holiday in Dorset when my partner had a stroke, he’s been on the Stroke ward for 8 days now and I just can’t put into words how grateful we both are for the incredible care shown to both of us. I know how hard it must be for NHS staff at the moment, but these guys deserve everything the politicians are promising them and more! Let’s hope they keep their promises, after July 4th.
