  1. Review titled humanity

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was in two departments, post operative and discharge wards. In both the staff were courteous yet not over familiar. although understaffed they worked extremely hard so that we as patients didn't feel any lack of care and attention. Information was shared, and what was discussed happened. Only two negative observations: firstly a tap was left running in the discharge ward for over two hours and secondly could delays in operating slots be shared with patients. The first item could save the trust a whole load of money if taps are left running in every ward and secondly my wait of 8 and a half hours would have been less stressful had I been told to go for a walk or sit outside for half an hour. Thank you for a hopefully good outcome.

  2. Review titled Very well looked after

Just wanted to share what a wonderful experience I had at East Surrey Hospital this week. I went to A&E in considerable pain and was seen quickly, assessed and provided with painkillers. 7 hours later I was admitted onto Brockham Ward and taken almost straightaway to have an appendectomy. Every single member of staff was amazing. I had every process clearly explained and was able to ask lots of questions. I went home 36 hours after arriving and have been recovering really well at home. I can’t thank everyone enough and a special shout out to the nurse who sang Mamma Mia with me immediately after I came out of surgery.

  3. Review titled Grateful Thanks

Thank you to all the amazing staff in the A & E Department at ESH for your care and treatment of my husband today. He is awaiting surgery for a recently diagnosed abdominal aortic aneurysm and we were concerned that he felt unwell this morning. Within minutes of arriving in A & E he was triaged, then soon had ECG, blood tests, examination, CT scan of head and abdomen etc. We waited for results and all of this took about three and a half hours. Everyone was friendly and cheerful despite the fact that the Department was very busy. It’s just great to see the NHS working at its best and I think you’re all stars! Thank you so much again.

  4. Review titled Lack of sympathy and care

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My father passed away on 1st February. Despite many phone calls to Bereavement office we are still one week on and we have no medical certificate so that we can register his death. Talking to Bereavement office the ED doctor had still not signed the document, a week later, disgusting. PALS informed me that the system for this had changed. To be honest I'm not interested in systems they should be robust enough. I just want to be able to have my dad at peace in a funeral home. No liaison with anyone it's been me that has been phoning in. To the Directors that sit in their ivory tower deal with the mess you call East Surrey Hospital

Yesterday I had gtt appointment. The nurse or midwife who has taken my blood was very very rude. She shout infront of all patients to me because day maternity unit send me back for 2nd blood test to her. While taking blood it was hurting but she just did very fast rudly without saying sorry or smile. Though she was rude I said thank you literally 3 times but she didn't bothered and make a very rude face. Everyone likes to be treated respectfully. 8:45 she took first blood and 2nd was taken 10.45

  7. Review titled Excellent Hospital

My brother sadly died last month in a nearby nursing home but I would just like to take this opportunity to thank ESH for the amazing care and support he received there over the last 10 years. His consultant and the amazing teams in both Haematology and the Chemo Suite were so very kind and always treated him with great care and the utmost respect. Even at the end, the Palliative Care team were exceptional and I cannot thank the discharge office enough for the incredible speed with which they organised his short-notice move to a local care home. I honestly cannot fault ESH for the truly outstanding care and treatment they provided to my brother and would have absolutely no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them most highly.

Suggested I take my husband to A and E, by his doctor. It was during the doctors strike but we were seen promptly and checks were carried out by cheerful, attentive and efficient staff. Very impressed.

  9. Review titled Wonderful care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Was sent to A&E with chest infection. Although dept was pretty busy, in the space of three and a half hours I had an xray and blood tests and was given results and discharged with appropriate medication. All the staff I saw...clinicians doctors etc were extremely kind and caring and professional and I was made to feel like the only patient that mattered! An overwhelmingly good experience with the NHS. Thank you.

  10. Review titled Dietary requirements

    by Maggie726 - Posted on 11 January 2024

I am writing about my mother who is an inpatient . Nursing care is very good, however it has been difficult to get the right diet for her. She is gluten free low sugar. On three occasions that I know of no food has turned up for her so I have had to go to the shops there, which don’t have a great range for her. Her lunch is at 12 md and supper between 5pm and 6pm . Nothing to eat in between this. I asked if she could be offered something as this was a long time to go without food, especially as she eats little and often at home as she has Parkinson’s. I was told that they could not offer anything, not even a sandwich because of being gluten free. I was told to make sandwiches and snacks and leave in the fridge which I did, however these are not always offered to her and today she was so hungry and no meal turned up for her. Surely it is beneficial for every patient to eat a well balanced diet and not to be hungry for them to recover as quickly as possible.
