Review titled Excellent caring service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Julia Kiddle - Posted on 26 December 2023
While staying with my son, I had cause to visit East Surrey Hospital as an emergency, having been sent there by the Caterham walk-in clinic ( who were also efficient, kind and helpful). On arrival, receptionists booked me in and after a wait time of only about 20 mins - amazing on a Saturday so close to Xmas - I was assessed by a nurse and referred for blood tests. Although she introduced herself, I cannot remember her name, but what I do remember was that she was calm, reassuring, and put me completely at ease - in my view she was a blue print for exactly what a nurse should be. After bloods taken, again with calm efficiency, and a short wait, my nurse returned with good news, an intravenous antibiotic and sent me on my way with a pack of pills. From leaving home at 8.30 am, I was back home at 11.30 am, feeling rough but completely confident that I would soon recover, which thankfully now seems to be the case. Thank you so much to all concerned for rescuing my family Christmas.

My 95 year old mother was brought in by ambulance for a scan and tests following a fall. Staff were so busy but she was treated quickly and respectfully. Lovely kind consultant in charge.

I had breast surgery a few days ago and my experience at East Surrey far exceeded my expectations. Every member of staff was professional, friendly and efficient. The premises were spotless and I felt totally safe and well-informed every step of the way. I really can't fault the way I was treated and it is clear to me that this is a vey well-run hospital. Thank you to all your staff for the great care.

I had an operation on my neck yesterday. I just wanted to say how kind and reassuring everyone was from Admissions all the way through to Copthorne Ward. It really was as good an experience as it could possibly be. Thanks to the team.

Review titled Long, exhausting few days
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I’ve had long term sickness for a few years now. I’d been rushed to hospital via ambulance and must admit the turnaround to admission was quick and easy. From there I’ve been sent from pillar to post, from minor injuries, having urine and blood samples, finding out I’m not pregnant and being sent over to early pregnancy unit. From gynaecology I went to SAU, from there to Ambulatory units. Been misdiagnosed with a manner of different things from different doctors, from throat/respitory infections to gallstones. Repeating blood tests over and over again provides the exact same results as before. I spent a collective of 12 hours in the hospital to find I need to return on another date. Then onto an 8 hour day (today) where my bloods were taken (once again) and I’m waiting for answers. This place has really changed since covid 19 there are patients lining the corridors in beds waiting for treatment and not enough staff on site to deal with the influx. I find it absolutely disgusting that the NHS board and directors have allowed this hospital (or any) to get in such a state. Where patients that are in excruciating pain are having to wait hours if not days for treatment. Absolutely bewildered by the speed of service. Staff have been lovely and welcoming at time of arrival. But the waiting up to days just to get seen by a GP is not on. All out of our expenses from tax/parking charges.

I was quickly diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer, but at all times I was treated with great care and compassion. All of the multidisciplinary team looking after me have been brilliant. I couldn't have been treated better. I feel very confident that everything possible is.being done to ensure the best possible outcome for me. Nothing has.been too much trouble.

Review titled Car Park

Attended yesterday with my mum. Very Stressful trying to find a disabled bay. Others in similar situation but made worse by people driving in through the exits and in the opposite direction of the arrow! I dropped my mum at the entrance and parked in the main car park. After her appt I went back to my car & witnessed disabled and parents of babies & young children struggling to get in & out of their cars. Please can more disabled & mother & baby spaces be made available? Thank you. Ps very helpful & understanding car park attendant when buzzed at exit.

The NHS may be in trouble but not your Accident and Emergency. Last Sunday a fall took me to there. Everyone was busy and under pressure but so friendly and efficient.

Review titled Amazing Treatment & Staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Beverley Chantler - Posted on 22 October 2023
I don’t usually do reviews but thought the recent treatment I have received from the staff at the Breast Care Centre at East Surrey Hospital deserved a huge mention. From the moment I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in August, up to my surgery a couple of days ago, I have been looked after by an amazing team of people. From the receiving of all my appointment letters on time, through to all the various pre-surgery procedures I have endured, all the staff have been friendly, caring and professional and I feel totally humbled that I have been treated so well. I am now at home recovering after having my surgery on Friday, and have been completely pain and discomfort free (not needing any painkillers) and have put that down to the skill of my surgeon and her team. Everybody knocks the NHS, and yes there are problems, but I can honestly say, for me, they were absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much xxx

Review titled Total lack of empathy
by Lydia752 - Posted on 12 October 2023
I recently had major abdominal surgery, and after being discharged I needed to attend A&E to have the surgical drain inspected due to a leak/seepage. In the early hours of the morning, having waited several hours in A&E, I was seen by the attending registrar, who I found to be the most unfriendly, unempathetic individual, instructing me to lie on my stomach, which I refused due to this being physically impossible and dangerous due to my surgical procedure.I asked if they could examine the drain whilst I stood up and they told me again that I need to lie down, and to try on my side. This was also impossible for me.I then asked if the bed could be adjusted to allow me to sit up at a 45 degree angle, to prevent placing any pressure or to reduce tension on my stitches (running from hip to hip) and the registrar was not aware of how to operate or adjust the bed. My husband then pointed to a remote control he saw hanging on a radiator at the foot of the bed and the nurse then proceeded to assist in adjusting the bed.I feel the registrar showed no concern for the obvious pain and difficulty I was experiencing. I was obviously struggling to move and yet they were demanding the most inappropriate physical action from me. I feel they had no bedside manner at all and were completely unfriendly and dismissive of my concerns. In total contrast, all other staff nurses were extremely helpful and compassionate.
