Review titled Exemplary
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by S Barker - Posted on 31 May 2023
My husband has been treated at East Surrey Hospital for 5 years and the treatment he has received has been outstanding. On every visit the staff are friendly and welcoming, appointments have been arranged quickly and efficiently and the standard of care has been exemplary. It has given us peace of mind and confidence that we are being well looked after and this has had a positive impact on my husband’s well-being and recovery. Thank you for being such a centre of excellence.

Review titled Wait for Death Certificate
by Return of the Living dead - Posted on 18 May 2023
In my view, this country has become a third world place when it comes to process. My brother has passed away 3 weeks ago and yet we are still waiting on the death certificate to be issued. Between the Doctors and Coroner, this country and its hospitals I have lost faith in 100 percent. Dr rings me and says we have sent the paperwork to the coroner office, ring them on Monday morning and get a status update. Guess what, Coroner has not even received the information from the Doctor.

Review titled Great compassionate care at Brook ward
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Claude Bertin - Posted on 22 May 2023
The op was a success but I developed complications and I stayed in Brook ward for 2 weeks. The medical and nursing care was brilliant and second to none especially when I was at my most vulnerable. I am very grateful to all at Brook ward for their care and compassion .

Review titled Great care for my son
by Horsham mum - Posted on 05 April 2023
My young son managed to get washing detergent in both eyes yesterday. After calling 111 (and receiving great care there) I was told to go to A&E to check all is ok. We waited a short period of time (10-15 mins) when my son was treated by two lovely nurses. Thankfully there was only minor damage to my son's eyes and we were gone with medication in 1 hour. Amazing, speedy care considering it was 10:00-11:00pm on a Saturday night. Both nurses were lovely to my son and made him feel at ease (he even received a teddy which he was delighted about). The next morning the eye doctor called me and recommended we come to East Surrey to check all is ok. We were told to come two hours later. The doctor throughly checked my sons’ eyes and scanned them and all was fine. Great care from East Surrey!

Review titled Pharmacy staff - unnecessarily slow and inconsiderate
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 April 2023
I waited 20 mins for a prescription, went back only to be told they didn't have it in stock and would need to 'borrow' it from inpatients pharmacy. I assumed it would be quick as I'd already waited 20 mins and really if they knew they had to go borrow they could have either gone to try to do that. I then waited another 35 minutes, sitting where I could clearly be seen. Nothing happened, no one approached or called me even though they knew I was waiting. Eventually I decided to ask re progress... only to be told the med was 'just being done'. I waited a bit more only to have another pharmacist say, we didn't have the medication in stock! And they'd given an alternative, without speaking to me to check that was ok! The point of the med was that it was specifically chosen as patient cannot swallow tablets... they ended up giving me tablets! Without asking or checking. The pharmacy wasn't busy - it was Good Friday so few people were about. I am upset that I was made to wait nearly an hour, with no one telling me what was happening and only to be given an unsuitable medicine. I saw the original pharmacist several times and she saw me waiting - she never came over to say anything, never told me whether she had tried inpatients pharmacy and they didn't have it, or, whether she didn't even bother trying and figured it was funny to just make me wait (I was working that day and needed to get back!) I think this behaviour shows utter contempt for me as a customer and it was downright rude of them not to check and update me on progress. I would wonder too why we couldn't just have been given a physical script to take to our own pharmacy - it seems a bit fishy to me to make me drive 45 mins each way, with a wait of nearly an hour, having to pay a steep amount of parking fee.

I am very sorry to hear this. I am aware that waiting times in our onsite Boots store are sometimes longer than we would like them to be and we are working closely with our Boots colleagues to try to improve that. We dispense medicines on site as it is more cost effective for the NHS overall, and enables us to support our prescribers to work within local guidelines; however, we need to make sure this doesn't come at the expense of the the standard of the service you experience, and I would like to try to get to the bottom of what happened on this occasion. If you would like to email me on joanne.rhodes1@nhs.net with some more details I will try to find out why there was a problem in providing the medicine that was originally prescribed and talk to the team about how this was managed.

Review titled Infection Control
by Complex Patient - Posted on 20 April 2023
Staff were not disinfecting Obs equipment between patient contact, which is something I've raised several times in the past. I contracted Covid for a 3rd time whilst in Hospital, despite being fully vaccinated. All 3 of my Covid infections occurred as a Hospital inpatient. I was very surprised that it was OK for Covid positive patients to be in the same area as other acutely unwell, elderly & vulnerable patients, with equipment being shared. When I queried this, having been Shielding for 3 years due to being clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid, I was told it was OK because there's a gap between the beds. There were no disinfectant wipes on board the Obs trolley, and staff had to be asked to clean the equipment, each & every time they came to the bedside to check my Obs. This is a very basic infection control requirement & not taking the necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection in a Hospital setting is inexcusable.

Review titled Lucky to have the best medical team from ICU & HDU
by Lewis234 - Posted on 16 May 2023
My experience at East Surrey Hospital during a severe asthma attack was a rollercoaster of emotions and uncertainties. I was admitted with a critical condition that required intubation and sedation not once, but twice. It was an incredibly challenging time for me and my loved ones, but the incredible team at the ICU and HDU provided the care and support we desperately needed. First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the nurses, doctors, and supporting staff of the ICU and HDU at East Surrey Hospital. Their dedication and expertise played a crucial role in my recovery. Throughout my 18-day stay, they went above and beyond to ensure I received the best care possible. I am immensely grateful for their unwavering commitment. The physical and psychological support provided by the hospital staff was truly outstanding. Not only did they attend to my medical needs with utmost professionalism, but they also extended their care to my family, who were equally anxious and worried. Their empathy and understanding made a significant difference during such a challenging time. What struck me the most was the evident passion the healthcare professionals had for their work. They approached each patient with a genuine desire to make a positive impact. Their willingness to go the extra mile and provide comfort in times of distress was truly remarkable. It was clear that their dedication stemmed from a deep-rooted sense of compassion and a genuine desire to help others. The team at East Surrey Hospital was not only highly skilled but also incredibly caring and considerate. They treated me with dignity and respect, ensuring that I felt valued as a person, not just a patient. Their presence provided a sense of reassurance and encouragement, which greatly contributed to my recovery journey. To the exceptional team at East Surrey Hospital, I want to express my sincerest appreciation. Your unwavering dedication, compassion, and professionalism make you the best in your field. Please continue your excellent work, as your contributions make a significant difference in the lives of patients like me. Thank you for everything you do, and well done on a job incredibly well done.

Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Megs97 - Posted on 24 April 2023
I visited East Surrey childrens A&E as I was not in my local area when my son started struggling to breathe. Within seconds of walking through the door to childrens dept the nurse had him on the bed doing obs and the doctor gave him medicine straight away. My son was cared for so well by all the team. Could not fault them at all, thank you so much.

Review titled Bright spot in the NHS
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by James Barnes - Posted on 28 March 2023
Other parts of the NHS may in trouble, but I went to your A&E on 25 March and was an inpatient for two nights thereafter and can say that I was treated efficiently, kindly and expertly. Everyone was so friendly and helpful from the consultant to the tea lady. You should be proud of yourselves. I am not in the habit of writing reviews but feel impelled to by my treatment. You should review your discharge admin which does not work smoothly.

Review titled They literally saved my life
by AnnD54 - Posted on 16 March 2023
I had arrived at a hotel where I was going to spend the night before flying. I arrived there totally breathless and unable to walk. There was immediate response from ambulance service, which took me straight to A&E at Redhill. Lots of tests were carried out immediately and even a Cat scan on my lungs, showing blood clots on the lungs. I stayed in 4 nights and was looked after by capable hands. I cannot fault any of the staff. They literally saved my life. A massive thank you to everyone who helped me. I know it's your job, but you made me feel reassured for the whole time I spent with you.
