  1. Review titled Exceptional care from all the staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Marc knight - Posted on 05 August 2024

I Have just been discharged after a 5 day stay. The staff and the care I received during my visit was nothing but exceptional. All the staff treated me with kindness and care throughout my stay. From a past experience I have a fear of hospitals from a different hospital, the staff at the DGH has made me rethink my fear and have given me my faith back in hospitals. I will never forget all the staff that looked after me and will be forever grateful to all that did. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for your hard work and Compassion!

  2. Review titled Kind and considerate

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Marjorie - Posted on 14 July 2024

My 90 year old husband was taken by ambulance from home to Eastbourne hospital, he was bleeding from somewhere he shouldn’t have been. So much that he was becoming light headed and very worried. We were shown to a bay in A&E and from the moment he arrived was looked after with great care and discretion. Bloods were taken almost as soon as he was settled, and put on monitored heart rate and blood pressure. Even though we were there for a few hours waiting for his blood results, there were nurses available to help him use the bathroom and monitor his blood loss. He was treated with dignity at all times, even though the staff were obviously under pressure from being very busy, and also some not cooperating patients, making it difficult for them. My husband was then seen by a junior doctor, who went through his medical history (very long) , he decided to talk to a more senior colleague. He was then seen by a surgical dr. , who once again was very kind and reassuring. By now the blood loss was slower and he was given a cup of tea, a sandwich and biscuits, by yet another lovely nurse. After a very long day we were able to go home feeling well taken care of, and told if things took a turn for the worse to go straight back. Thank you to all who looked after my 90 year old husband so well.

  3. Review titled Not Good

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 July 2024

Turned out I was not given all the required information at the Pre Op. As a result I was completely unprepared for the effects of the procedure and was quite frightened and given no reassurance at all. The anaesthetist who saw me before the procedure didn't know my name or what procedure I was having and was not the same person as I met in the operating theatre. The consultant came to give me information after the procedure which would have been pointless if I hadn't recorded what he said because I was still seriously under the influence of the anaesthetic and can't remember what he said. They kept trying to feed me a sandwich which I told them I couldn't eat because I am coeliac. Probably asked me about 4 or 5 times! When I left, they didn't give me any guidance about keeping the wounds dry except a nurse said not to wash for a couple of days. I have had to find all the information I need on the internet and from family and friends. This wasn't a good experience. I observed the treatment of other patients who were in pain and could not understand why they were being ignored. Having recently had an operation in the QVH in East Grinstead which I would rate as 10/10, the experience I just had in Eastbourne would be a 3/10. But only because I am alive and currently don't have sepsis!

We recognise how worrying it is to undergo any medical procedure and aim to provide a high standard of care to all our patients and wish to offer to our sincere apologies for your poor experience. It was also disappointing to learn that you were not given all the information pre-operatively, which left you unprepared on the day and frightened, as this is not how we would wish any patient to feel. Should you wish to discuss your experience further, please contact a member of the Patient Experience Team on 0300 131 4784 or via email on esh-tr.PatientExperience@nhs.net so that they can follow this matter up on your behalf.

I have recently transferred my care to Eastbourne hospital, and was apprehensive about this, I have cardiac Amyloidosis and heart failure. I attended my first appointment on polling day! From arriving and having my all my checks done I was treated with kindness and respect. The Dr I saw was very aware of my condition and talked to me in a way a 90 year old man could easily understand. Wonderful. I certainly won’t be anxious when it’s time for my next review Thank you Eastbourne hospital

  5. Review titled Great service!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ian Mason - Posted on 10 July 2024

Mum was asked by GP if we could go to A&E immediately. The staff were great from booking in, to triage nurse, to seeing the doctor at discharge, but we wanted to say a big thank you to the young trainee lady working Health Care Assistants, who carried out ECG, fitted canula and took bloods. She was very professional, caring, & clearly not fazed having 3 others in the room. Keep up the good work!

  7. Review titled Fantastic staff and service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Gorham - Posted on 07 June 2024

I attended cardiology department today for what I thought was a simple, minor procedure. On arrival I was greeted by a nurse, shown to a bed which already had my name above it, given theatre clothing to change into, blood pressure and pulse taken. Then taken to the theatre and staff there were absolutely brilliant, helped me on to the bed, the surgeon then performed the procedure, and told me everything he was doing before he did it, I was comfortable and felt no discomfort what so ever. I was then taken back to the ward, blood pressure checked again, and was told I could go home at any point. My only failing was I did not get any names of the ward staff, the theatre staff, or even the surgeon, so I cannot thank them all by name. But, what a great experience, certainly made me feel at ease. Thank you to all of you

  8. Review titled Devoted Staff Working Under Great Pressure

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rodney King - Posted on 16 May 2024

I was transported to the EDGH A&E by ambulance following a nasty fall in Easbourne town centre which badly injured my face. After being proptly triaged, there was as very long wait for treatment whchc was hardly surprising with over 30 other patients in the main waiting room! My eventual treatment was performed by a young dedicated junior doctor, (in her second foundation year, who provided an outstanding service by taking care of every need and keeping me informed about progress of a susequent CT scan. We really must support these junior doctors and not lose them as a result of government policies.

  9. Review titled Positive experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sarah Parsons - Posted on 20 May 2024

My mum was admitted to A and E due to atrial fibrillation. She was immediately seen to and received such personal and attentive care. They all went above their regular jobs to make her feel comfortable and safe. One staff member in particular was amazing and developed a lovely rapport with her to make her feel comfortable, we are very grateful to him. There is huge pressure on the nhs and I did not think we would get such great care but I could not have faulted it.
