Review titled A & E shocking system
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 January 2024
I recently consulted an out-of-hours gp due to excruciating pain extending from my lower back to my legs, indicative of possible sciatica. The doctor, recognizing the severity, referred me for a scan to explore potential spinal issues. Unfortunately, the only option available for obtaining the scan was through a&e. After a 10-hour wait, I was seen again by a doctor who essentially repeated the examination conducted by the gp. Surprisingly, the decision was made to forget the recommended scan, and I was prescribed painkillers instead. My experience at Gloucester Hospital was disheartening, as my initial visit was solely intended for a scan, which ultimately did not occur. In that case, I should have given painkillers in the first place and not stayed in a&e. System is shocking!

Review titled Childrens A&E
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Stephanie Haines - Posted on 21 January 2024
We had to visit on a very busy Friday evening at 5pm with our 3 year old who had an extremely high temp of 40.1. We were triaged in 15 mins max, and saw a duty doctor within the hour. Medication for a bacterial infection was dispensed and we left in just over an hour. All staff were lovely. There was squash and biscuits for the children and toys/books which we saw being regularly disinfected. I wasn’t aware this hospital had a dedicated kids A&E, and despite 2 packed waiting rooms I was very impressed. Thank you! Worth the extra 10mins drive over warwick A&E if your on the border like us!

Saw a doctor at Gloucester Royal early January for a biopsy. Three weeks later still haven't received results. Out of my mind with worry, told I would be contacted within two weeks. Faster results please!

Review titled Excellent care and kindness
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Claire - Posted on 06 February 2024
After several hospitalisations with acute pancreatitis, I had an emergency cholecystectomy ( gallbladder removal) a week ago. I cannot thank the consultants and the staff enough for their kindness and consideration, making a huge effort to protect me due to my ongoing cancer treatment and very low neutrophil count. Making sure I had a single side room , both when I was admitted to Emergency Surgical Unit ward 5a on emergency with another episode of acute pancreatitis , and also Ward 4a , down to the actual surgery in the wonderful Mayhill Day surgery unit where once again, I was admitted into a side room to await my surgery. Everyone From the surgeon, anaesthesists and recovery staff to the nurses on the Mayhill unit and in the Emergency Surgical Unit ward 5b , I was treated with the utmost care and kindness. And the wonderful staff nurse and healthcare assistant in the discharge lounge who also went that extra mile to unsure my safety. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.

Review titled Shocking experience at A&E
Rated 1 star out of 5

I brought my husband into A&E on Friday night after he fell down the stairs and knocked himself unconscious. Once he came round he had total amnesia and no short term memory with potential serious harm to his head and a completely disfigured shoulder. The treatment in A&E was appalling. The receptionist was incredibly rude and dismissive. We waited almost 2 hours only to be told it would be another 3 hours just to see triage and then another 12 to see a doctor?! How is this possible?? It is barbaric to make people wait that long in agony and at serious risk of brain bleeds. In the end we left and drove back to London and he was seen within 20 minutes of arriving at Kingston Hospital where is case was escalated immediately and he was given moprhine and rushed to XRay and CT scans, where they found he did have a broken collar bone and concussion. I genuinely worry for the people of Gloucester because it was incredibly disturbing. Where on earth is the tax payer money going if you can't see a doctor for over 16 hours??? A serious review needed into the A&E here....

Review titled Wonderful Care and Treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Tanisha Ebanks - Posted on 02 December 2023
I’d just like to say I had a wonderful and truly caring experience at the Mayhill Unit yesterday. From my arrival to going home was made truly lovely by every member of the team at the unit yesterday due to their lovely care and treatment. I was nervous about the day but the manner and devotion of every member of staff made the day a fantastically pleasant experience and I instantly felt at ease. I would like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to everyone who supported me yesterday. Thank you very much :)

Admitted from A&E after an ultrasound at another hospital. Surgery performed and ovary removed. No details of the results of the biopsy that was promised. Recently received an appointment at Quayside for an ultrasound for pelvic check. No ovary found (it had been removed). Checking back with the hospital, the results from the biopsy have not yet been passed to the secretary for the doctor. This is 5 months and several phone calls to find try and find out the results.

Staff are doing what they can but unfortunately lack of staff means they are unable to provide enough care for patients. Thank you for your hard work staff, I really think your job is important and being made very difficult

Review titled Excellent treatment

All of the staff, medical, nursing, etc. were extremely attentive, friendly and professional. The experience was like a day out, rather than a surgical proceedure. The anaesthetist's were particularly good at making me feel at ease, but overall I couldn't fault any member of staff.

Attended an Orthapedics Outpatient appt - met by staff in entrance hall to assist with checking in, directions given, appt early and swiftly processed by doctor. In and out with 30 mins - great experience.
