Dear George Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about Heartlands Hospital Birmingham. We are really sorry to hear that you've been struggling to contact the general surgery department to confirm your referral. We spoke to the department this afternoon and they suggested two options: 1) Ring 0121 424 7371, this is the Waiting List team leader for General Surgery, they will be able to advise where you are on the waiting list. If you have any specific queries they will redirect this to the operational teams for advice. 2) Contact patientexperience@uhb.nhs.uk with your hospital number and they can do a proper check of what the current situation is. 2. Review titled Painful Hysteroscopy as no pain relief!

    by Splooshy68 - Posted on 14 July 2023

After having a Trans-vaginal scope at Good Hope Hospital (where it was absolutely pain free and the sonographer absolutely excellent in their caring manner and communication during the procedure), I was referred for a hysteroscopy and advised to take paracetamols an hour before procedure. The appointment was at Heartlands. I have never given birth vaginally as have never dilated during labour, resulting in 3 sections. The pain was horrendous! Trying to force a metal pole into my cervix with no pain relief. Eventually given numbing, which only slightly eased pain. Had a polyp removed (bearable) but then the worst part - the suction! OMG, the pain! Yelling and climbing up the gynae chair! Intravenous sedation and pain relief should be mandatory for this procedure, in my opinion! Especially where there has been no vaginal birth. Nurses were lovely, but I found the Dr uncommunicative and detached. They initially rammed the probe into me with no warning and the lovely nurse had to relay what the doctor was doing to me the whole time as they relayed nothing except for when they spotted a small polyp and said they would remove there and then. Nurse also reassured to say stop if too much, but you just carry on to get it over with. I don't believe there is any need for this atrocious pain in this day and age. I will never consent to gynae procedures without pain relief again.

  3. Review titled Incompetent, insensitive and uncaring

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Natalie Linton - Posted on 05 July 2023

There are so many failings from this hospital, it’s hard to know where to start. To give an overview at what was an extremely worrying time for us all, you are promised that you can contact “any time” the “specialists” which wasn’t true, I left numerous messages to receive no response. We were given so much false hope in terms of treatment which again a similar story to the contact didn’t transpire. The insensitivity to patients and relatives is beyond belief. I have always had faith in the NHS and have been an avid supporter of raising money, I am left with a feeling of extreme disappointment and heartbreak from the treatment we received as a family. I’m genuinely appalled by the lack of care and competence within this hospital. Avoid at all costs!

  4. Review titled Filthy toilets and corridors

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 June 2023

Visited my mum over four days. Same rubbish on floor en route to ward the whole time. Corridors littered with amandoned trolleys making it look like a scene from the walking dead. The one public toilet i went into had wee all over floor, no toilet paper. Toilet brush covered in dried excrement. I am a retired nurse and was so shocked. However once on the ward the staff were lovely. Treated my mum with care and respect. Must be terrible for their moral to walk through corridors like that, not to mention the patients

  5. Review titled Terrible treatment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Peter Hodkinson - Posted on 21 April 2024

After attending A&E after slipping at home I injured my elbow. I was not dealt with for 9 hours during which I passed out in pain and eventually given morphine. Others had been there for 15 hours. The waiting area was dirty and crowded and with one doctor. The nurse who went get my medication took over a hour to come back? After being told throughout that I had a strain I insisted on an X-ray as I was being encouraged to go home. The X-ray showed a break I was treated.

  6. Review titled Top Class service during a tricky labour

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kristopher Ekins - Posted on 02 July 2023

My partners Labour started off very routinely, going in at 5cm. She progressed on to 7cm in a few hours and after another few hours only on to 8cm. Baby it turned out was face up and head tilted backwards. My partner was put on a drip to help ease the process along but baby didn't want to move around even after 4 hours! The midwives and doctors spoke us through our options, C section or forceps with the emergency c section if forceps unsuccessful. My partner was taken in to surgery and the forceps failed so Baby was born (very happily I might add) via emergency C section. I am so so so grateful to everybody involved in the process. The student midwives and midwives never left our side and were so incredible, reassuring, informative and just all around amazing. The anesthesiologists explained everything perfectly during the epidural and the were very reassuring too. The doctors came in periodically towards the end to assess and were very gentle and kind and spoke through everything in such away that neither of the options felt daunting. The surgeons and consultants were fantastic and efficient in theater and did such a brilliant job stitching my partner back up. During it all I still managed to cut the cord and we had cuddles with mom whilst they were finishing up. After care team was brilliant too and so was everybody up on the recovery ward. I honestly can't speak highly enough of every single person involved. Thank you.

I demanded to see a doctor or at least explain to me what happened and why I have waited for now 12 hours, sorry you Re-register yourself and wait we can see you but don’t know when I told. I left hospital and went home, my chest and stomach pains had increase, but don’t what to do and where to go Extremely disappointed

  10. Review titled A Professional Health facility with Great skills.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 May 2023

My first experience ever was on 24/5/23 as I was scheduled for an appointment and from the entrance I was well welcomed by various teams of staff. My stay was really an amazing experience as though my first visit was like a regular visitor experience. All I can ever observe from the minute I stepped into the hour I left was just teamwork ad effective health care service with very limited amount of noise as this was the hallmark of the well-being and safety of the patient. I will recommend this trust over and over to anyone as truly an emergency unit but everyone was just fitted into their field of care. Secondly, I could nearly perceive any offensive smell as the whole scenario was like a living apartment even though a medical facility all kiddos to the Management staff and her Great team, keep up the great work ahead your are simply the best I have seen.
