Review titled No wonder the NHS is bad
Rated 1 star out of 5

Blood test booked for 0800. Staff and reception still not in work at 0810. Why book appointments for this time if the staff cannot be bothered to turn up for work on time.

Review titled Communication between Trusts
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Recent blood test result at Hertford could not be accessed by consultant at Princess Alexandra where I was being treated so another blood test in Harlow had to be requested. Surely my NHS number should have made it possible to share this information. This repetition of tests due to Trust systems not speaking to each other slows down the wonderful work the NHS does.

Review titled Awful receptionist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 October 2024
Told to come in at 8. Of course as it’s the Nhs, computer says no so waited until 8.30 but had to leave asked if I could come back later blood receptionist said yes. Asked main receptionist what time they were open until. Got a load of attitude and 20 questions back when all I needed was a time. No wonder Nhs is in a state. Stop wasting money on compassionless bulldog receptionists only in it for the Asda blue light discount (in spite of them offering zero value to patients) and use the money on more useful things, chocolate tea pots.

Review titled Incorrectly informed that I had cancelled my appointment
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2024
I am annoyed and dismayed to be in receipt of a letter stating that I cancelled my Dermatology clinic appointment and that if I cancel two consecutive appointments I may be discharged back to my GP. I did not cancel my appointment. I did attend the appointment and was there in plenty of time ahead of my 9am appointment time. I checked in at reception and waited 45 mins only to be told by one of your receptionists that the clinic had been cancelled by you and that there was nobody else that I could see that day in clinic. Whilst I understand and appreciate that the NHS is severely strained with resources etc at the current time - I do expect you to at least have your facts correct. I would never normally write in and leave a poor review, however, I want to ensure that my records are updated accordingly with the correct information - that 'I' did not cancel my appointment and risk getting discharged in the future

Review titled Refusing to let a pregnant person to use bathroom
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Grace - Posted on 05 August 2024
I am currently standing outside Hertford hospital which opens at 8. I am 7 months pregnant and need to use the bathroom but the woman on the front desk is refusing to open the doors to allow me in. For context it is 7:56 and she just keeps saying no whilst refusing to get out of her chair. I have explained I am pregnant and clearly have a large bump! I am absolutely shocked at her lack of compassion and sheer lazy ignorance, instead of coming to talk to me instead just shaking her head from behind the desk and holding 8 She was on the front desk I went to ask her why she couldn’t have a conversation with me she laughed in my face and said “what through the glass”. No apology, no nothing. I am upset and shaking at how carelessly she has treated me this morning and will be taking Hertford NHS’ lack of care further.

Review titled Can't cancel appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Kip - Posted on 10 July 2024
I'd love to cancel my unneeded appointment and save the hospital some money but I'm not able to wait on hold indefinitely only to finally be cut off. Well at least after two attempts, I'm not prepared to wait a third time. Suggestions: Answerphone; Callback option; Alternative contact method, such as email. I see other reviews from enough people that are annoyed and abandoning the cause that I think any one of those would help.

Review titled Suggest improving admin
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Peter Garside - Posted on 16 July 2024
I received a text message on 11th July to say that I was expected to attend Hertford County Hospital on 16th July and I should respond to the message to confirm or cancel the appointment. My regular 6-monthly appointments at Hertford are in the Neurology Department and the next one isn’t due until 3rd September. Since I could find nothing in my diary or in the file of written correspondence from the hospital about an appointment in July, I tried telephoning for clarification. After six or seven attempts over the next 24 hours, and never getting higher than 25th in the queue, I gave up and decided I had to confirm the appointment. On arrival at the hospital I presented myself at reception in Neurology and explained the situation. The receptionist was very patient, said I didn’t have an appointment there and suggested I should ask at other departments in the hospital. The receptionist in the main lobby had no record of an appointment for me, nor did the receptionist in Phlebotomy. However, the receptionist in Radiology did confirm that I was expected for a bone-density scan. This was duly completed. It seems that my GP (last seen in mid-April) had requested this test and the results will be sent to him. While I have to say that all the staff at the hospital were polite and helpful, their time and mine could have been saved if the text message about my appointment had specified which department and for what purpose.

Review titled Blood test
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 July 2024
Today I came to the hospital for a blood test. The lady who was working at the time behind the reception in the blood test area (around 14.30) was very blunt when asking for names to everyone but in particular she was extremely rude to an older lady who was only asking a simple question. The lady was asking the receptionist if she could look into something for her. The receptionist began to be rude and walked off. She proceeded to shout down the corridor asking the lady’s name. The lady said she would come back later as she was so busy and the receptionist proceeded to interrupt again but saying ‘what’s your name’. The lady left and the receptionist came back. When she sat down she said to her colleague ‘ why do people always come and ask me stupid questions when I’m busy’ she rolled her eyes. As a customer service manager myself I was appalled to hear her speak to and about someone the way she did. I suggest some customer service training. As for the lady who took my blood test, she was lovely!!

Review titled Traumatic Experience
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 26 July 2024
My recent (July 2024) visit to the Hertford County Hospital did not go well. This appointment was for an eye check (which incidentally was completed ok) prior to cataract surgery due the following month. I was sat at the testing machine with my legs under the platform and to align my chin with the chin rest the Specialist Nurse lowered the platform low enough to contact the top of my legs putting great pressure on them resulting in me experiencing considerable pain. It felt like there was an elephant sitting on my knees and only when I cried out did the operator stop and raised the table back up again to take the load off my legs and offer an apology. This equipment should be fitted with a cut out so as not to allow dangerous forces to be applied to patients legs which could result in serious injury. Specialist Nurses are not engineers so may not be aware of the dangers of these power fed tables/platforms, (mine certainly wasn't). Operators should be warned of this danger and necessary modifications to these machines immediately applied. Fortunately I do not appear to have sustained any permanent injury but the event was traumatic and upsetting particularly for a 77 year old patient.
