Review titled Poor treatment in A&E
by Advo5 - Posted on 31 August 2023
I was seen by a doctor from Majors in the Minors department for some wounds that needed cleaning and dressed. From the very start it was awkward. However, this was the least of my worries. After sitting down I was asked if anyone has told me I need to stop (self-inflicted wounds). I tried to respond as best I could, given this is something ongoing for almost two decades. I was also asked as to why I continue to turn up like this. At another point I was asked don't you think you need to stop doing this. I was angry at the tone and of what was being said. In my view, there was no place for the Doctor to be giving a lecture when they know nothing about me or my life. There was also an issue of cleaning and dressing the wound. I could tell they weren't sure what to use. It seemed they got the instruments confused. Then at the end asked me if this was how staff normally dress the wounds. I was honest and said no. They were also not trusting of my stating I had seen the HPM team and was free to go. I was told there is no documentation to say I had seen the HPM team. I told them to knock on the door and ask if they wanted to. After leaving the cubicle I spoke with the HPM staff member I had talked to earlier and provided all of the above information. I feel there is an ongoing issue with how people are being treated when attending A&E when it comes to mental health/illness and that comes with it. Just before this attendance I had another staff member bring up frequent attenders - it has a new name ... High Intensity. After being asked if I wanted to see HPM and it being my last chance for them to refer. I was told, it's a yes or no, that's not hard at all. Apologies if it seems that I am playing around or purposely being unsure. Once again there is judgement based on nothing. Sadly, the ongoing issue with how I, and I assume others, are treated doesn't only come from physical, but also HPM staff. It's sad that it is now uncertain of how one will be treated.

Review titled Amazing Hospital
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Have been receiving treatment at the Podiatry department for over 2 years and recently had foot surgery, the care I received from every member of staff has been fantastic. I also had to visit A&E and again the care I received was fantastic, the paramedics who took me in were praising the Homerton and said other hospitals should take a leaf out of this hospital’s book.. I strongly agree with that.

Review titled Absolutely amazing

Attended for a procedure I had been fairly apprehensive about, and nurses assisted and welcomed me in on my mobility scooter (even jokingly offering a cup of coffee!). The doctor clearly explained the procedure which was completed very professionally in what felt like only a few seconds! Very grateful and very impressed!

Review titled A Thank You to the staff.
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My mum was in Homerton for two weeks for a few issues. Our experience with all the staff from A&E to canteen was wonderful. But I specifically want to highlight the Edith Cavell ward who were nothing short of amazing. Every staff member treated my mum and those around her with patience and kindness. Every nurse, doctor and additional member of staff on that ward needs to be highlighted for their diligence, understanding and warmth. They made a stressful situation manageable and treated my mum with the dignity she deserves.

by KimH - Posted on 09 October 2023
I had my pre admission appointment over the phone then was asked to go in for pre admission, I went to out pts 1 were I was called by a nurse and was told to take a seat in the main outpatient as she need to get a Ecg form and then gave it to me and asked me to come back to foot health, I went back and she did my BP ,stats, weight and height, and then said to go to out pts 2 were I went sat down for a while no call me and I got called by staff member who asked me my DOB,I asked them to use my R arm and a butterfly needle their response was they were the one taking my bloods and they will decide what to use and what arm as they has studied atonementy and physicsology. I told this staff member all pts should have a choice I have worked with the nhs for the past 25 years one of working at different areas in homerton hospital and community, and 13 years in a gp practice which all my patients are given a choice

Review titled Excellent care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a molar removed at the Homerton today and was impressed by the high level of care I received from every member of staff I encountered. They all communicated clearly to me what would happen and were warm and human and reassuring in their communication style. I’ve been coming to the Homerton for over twenty years and I’ve noticed a massive improvement in how the staff interact with patients in the last few years. Thank you so much.

Review titled Poor care in A&E
by Advo5 - Posted on 28 June 2023
I was waiting to be seen for wound care. The doctor (from injuries) called me. As I walked forward a nurse said they were taking me through, but to wait where I was as others were coming too. I waited and they didn’t come back. I looked in the waiting area and the nurse was sat on the chairs assessing new patients that had turned up. I spoke with someone at reception and they spoke to the doctor. I heard them say that I usually just need a clean and dressing. That they are the only doctor in the department. Eventually the nurse came back and took me through. They didn’t have the slightest idea of what to do. Both in terms of speaking to me and addressing the wounds. It wasn’t cleaned properly and when I asked they still seemed confused. The doctor had a quick look but otherwise nobody was actually aware of how bad it was. When I had to ask the nurse to put a different dressing on (because the original one wasn’t suitable) I was asked which one. To find out they picked one and said when it’s open they can see. I gave up saying how I felt - the whole interaction/treatment wasn’t good. I wasn’t happy either. I appreciate staff are at different stages and have different experiences with learning, but this wasn’t appropriate. Even when the nurse tried to clean the wounds it wasn’t nice. In terms of how it was done and not even being aware of hygiene. I’ve had something similar before and the incident was explained away. At the end of the day it wasn’t cleaned or taken care of properly.

Review titled Great department- 'Hamu'
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Ellna - Posted on 02 June 2023
Thank you to the 'Hamu' department staff for taking care of me during my first blood transfusion. From the lovely male receptionist to the 2 head nurses- one nurse was name Marie. They were caring and made me feel comfortable. They made sure I understood the process before taking a blood transfusion. Although it was a lengthy process I was given a separate unit, with a blanket to rest and food. I appreciate their service and hard work!

Review titled Very good treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Barbara Patilla - Posted on 02 June 2023
I visited the Homerton Ambulatory Medicine Unit with a General Practitioner referral for atrial fibrillation. The nursing staff were very professional and personable and gave me excellent treatment. The doctor I saw was thorough in the explanations and checks and gave good advice. I could not have wished for better treatment. Many thanks to all the staff.

Review titled Excelent attention and care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son was in A&E and spent the night in the Starligth Ward, and we only have words of gratitude to everyone involved; the admin guys who took us in, the first nurses who checked him, the doctor who saw him within 10 mins of being there and on the day after at the ward, the toyroom lady, every cleaner, nurse, carer, etc was absolutely brilliant in how they treated my son and my wife. Luckily my son was discharged the next day, but what a wonderful thing we have in this country which is the NHS and the amazing professionals that look after all of us there.
