I attend the glaucoma clinic and recently had an appointment for an eye lasering procedure. Every time I attend the eye clinic all the staff are exemplary in the care and attention they deliver. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful ophthalmology department in our hospital.

by Keith Colborn - Posted on 04 October 2024
From the moment I arrived at A&E I was seen quickly in triage and immediatly called into see the team. They actioned my transfer to the stroke ward immediate. Once on the ward they diagnosed and treated me and gave me complete confidence. The care has been second to none, every member of the team has done a great job and everyone I encountered on the ward was cheerful, kind and immensely hard working. I've discovered a new respect for all those who work at the hospital and especially those who treated me. Many thanks to everyone and I hope you never need put up with me again, cheers!

Review titled NHS at its finest
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Chris B - Posted on 10 October 2024
Referred by an optician my partner was worried about something serious. So amazed to get a call within a couple of days and straight in for a very comprehensive check. All was found to be ok but the doctor wanted further checks in another department and immediately arranged this for the following day. Fantastic service from friendly caring staff. Thank you

Review titled Impossible to get through to departments on the phone
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by C Davies - Posted on 08 August 2024
I phoned the switchboard multiple times to inquire about a very unwell friend...They have now set up their switchboard telephone system so it rings for 1 minute then if unanswered it cuts off...If you are lucky enough to get through the switchboard and they put you through the ward phone is not answered and the switchboard ask you to ring back and the process starts all over again

Review titled Very good treatment
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anthony Rust - Posted on 05 July 2024
My wife was treated for chest pain on an evening when A&E was very busy. Triage was quick and although we were in the Department many hours, we accepted treatment was based on medical need and not the time of arrival. A return to the Ambulatory Unit was required the next day for a CT Scan. Throughout the experience, all Staff were very courteous, compassionate and professional. The Staff Nurse and Doctor explained in layman's language the reasons for particular procedures and the consequences of their results, both good and bad. Though my wife still experiences some pain, her anxieties were lessened by the Doctor explaining their were no major clinical problems and explained the probable cause was muscular trauma resulting from a recent fall. The Doctor also stressed we were to return to the Unit if there was no improvement. We are very thankful for the care given by the Ambulatory Unit in particular and request they are made aware of this.

Review titled Inefficient and disinterested
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 06 June 2024
I was initially referred as a matter of urgency to Ophthalmology, whose care and focus I absolutely cannot fault - I was having systemic visual issues which are considered, by every source, a medical emergency. Unfortunately, the consultant in Ophthalmology not unreasonably wanted to try and establish why these issues were occurring, since all of their tests for usual causes were normal. This resulted in a referral to the 'ambulatory' "wait here and basically be forgotten for several hours" department. 6hrs later, following a single scan, I had a 5min 'consultation' with a doctor, which was basically "the scan doesn't show anything beyond what Ophthalmology already told us. They want you to have a lumbar puncture, but we don't do that here", and then a soliloquy about how lumbar punctures "aren't a simple procedure" (I wasn't under the impression they were...) Essentially, I'm just going to be left to lose what's left of my sight, because the 'why' of what's happening isn't known. I've already lost two jobs because of the impact of sight loss, and following this appointment, I don't intend to bother following up on any further "urgent referrals", or suggestion that any symptoms are "a medical emergency" - since, as soon as you leave the relevant specialist department, this hospital doesn't consider anything 'urgent'. On a practical note - there needs to be a more affordable option for non-admitted patients to get food than the m&s concession, and if people are going to be expected to wait for hours at a time, then more comfortable seating needs to be provided - if it's "unhealthy" for people to sit for several hours in an office job, why is it suddenly okay when you're waiting in a hospital?
