  1. Review titled Inappropriate communication

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My son had injured his hand, was in quite a lot of pain and was verbally explaining how much it hurt. The A&E receptionist told him to act like a man, she said ‘it’s only your hand’. I think very inappropriate any way, but my son also has autism, so was highly offended.

  2. Review titled Lovely staff but long waits

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 May 2023

Spent 11 hours here for something that could have been dealt with in probably 2/3 hours. This is reflective of the poor funding and NHS system and likely not reflective of JR Hospital. Despite this, every single staff member who approached me from booking in to ED reception to the 2 doctors who discharged me in the morning, they were all lovely and courteous and ensured they managed my care well. (seen in ED and Surgical Emergency Unit)

  3. Review titled Incredible practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

It was definitely the first worst day in my life! My son, who turned 9 a day before, who was the happiest, the most active and the healthiest boy, fell down..suddenly,-in a minute, just on the field. All symptoms were as stroke..all of them. I was killed. We came to the hospital with ambulance! And the help from the hospital side was immediate! They found the reason! Two days, every second was quick and professional! I can’t count how we are grateful..it is more than money..it’s from all our hearts, and I will remember every face of nurses and doctors including two ladies from ambulance, that came to Witney! We are wishing all of them health and wealth every second! Thank you!

  4. Review titled Expert Medical Treatment Accompanied by Friendly Kindness

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dr Bill Lee - Posted on 25 May 2023

I am 92 and had fallen headlong on to a concrete garden path while carrying a tray and unable to use my hands to reduce the severity of the fall. My forehead had crashed against the path with the full weight of my falling body. Helen, a young lady who is my lodger dressed the wound but was unable to stop the bleeding which I dealt with by carrying a roll of paper towels. After arriving at A & E I was promptly removed from the seated waiting area and laid comfortably on a trolley which formed part of a queue of trolleys awaiting to be seen. I like to converse with people and found that the staff despite being terribly busy, happily responded without ceasing to continue to deal with the demands made upon them. I have an extensive background and very strong sense of humour. My rhetoric varied from jokes about the situation to referring to my experience while working at the Enzyme Institute at the University of Wisconsin. Despite being busy the staff seemed to enjoy my chatter and , of course my moral was boosted too. I recall describing the wonder of Indian postdocs experiencing a severe Wisconsin winter. They had never experienced snow before never mind in such wast quantities that it had to be trucked to the outskirts and dumped. I have nothing but praise for all the staff who were such great help to me after a very nasty accident. I hope that this is published so that the hard working staff can read about how much they are appreciated.

I fell over and landed on my wrist, I went to A&E and received brilliant care from everyone. The receptionists, nurses and especially the doctor.

  6. Review titled The amazing treatment I received

    by gemini58 - Posted on 20 January 2023

I had an Outpatients' appointment at the HAPI clinic in the West Wing of the JR Hospital yesterday for an assessment of a granuloma on a finger that I had been suffering from for six weeks. I had called the clinic the day before, requesting an urgent appointment because of the worsening condition of the injury and because of imminent travel. Within an hour of my contacting the clinic, I received a call-back and had an appointment booked. I was super-impressed by the speed of reaction and the positive outcome. As I waited in one of the assessment bays, I was able to listen to and (to some degree) watch how the staff interacted with each other and with their patients. What struck me was their calm efficiency, their courtesy and the fact that they so obviously cared about what they were doing and about the difference they were making. In due course, I was assessed and told that I would be added to the Minor Ops Plastic Surgery (MOPS) list for later in the day, with the proviso that I might be bumped off the list if more urgent cases presented themselves in the meantime. On that basis, I was told to return around 2:30 p.m. when the position would be clearer. When I returned, I was told that although I wouldn't be operated on at the HAPI MOPS clinic, there was a cancellation at the MOPS clinic at the Nuffiield Orthopaedic Hospital at 3:00 p.m. When I arrived at the Nuffield Outpatients' Reception, they were expecting me and within a couple of minutes I found myself in the MOPS clinic being prepared for surgery. All of the staff members I met were just as courteous, caring and professional as their colleagues at the JR had been. Before 4:00 p.m. the operation was over and I was being discharged. During the pandemic, I worked as a volunteer vaccinator, administering around 2,000 Covid and flu vaccinations in various clinics across Oxfordshire and Berkshire, so I am aware of some of the shortcomings of the NHS (mainly around staff shortages and outdated systems in my experience), but I have only admiration for the NHS staff members that I worked alongside and those I was treated by yesterday. So, thank you everyone.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gareth - Posted on 16 January 2023

Such kindly and reassuring nurses and practitioners on the day ward 6b who were so friendly and helpful and kind to both my partner and myself and totally reassuring with efficient treatment and no sign of being rushed. they spoke to everyone with genuine care and kindness. Ensured the doctor saw us, who was also very kind and gave us time despite having had a busy surgical afternoon, to reassure us and offer us the continuing commitment to resolution of problem. Very many thanks it so much appreciated at an upsetting time.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Elizabeth - Posted on 10 January 2023

Having to go to department late on Saturday I was concerned at what I might find. I need not have worried. The care I received was brilliant, staff were kind and reassuring, the atmosphere was calm and controlled. I cannot thank all the staff highly enough for the way I was treated and my issue resolved.

I would like to thank the doctor looking after my husband who came in with a very swollen and infected toe. He treated him with great respect and dealt the with the problem taking the time to take a swab of the toe to ensure he gets the correct antibiotic to treat the infection. Thank you
