Review titled Excellent care from Rheumatology at King's
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Elaine Allan - Posted on 19 March 2023
All the staff in this department I have had dealings with over several years as an outpatient are wonderful. The receptionists, nurses and doctors are kind, considerate, caring and friendly. The receptionists are helpful and polite, the nurses are always efficient getting the obs done before you see the doctor and clinics usually run to time. The doctors listen, explain everything well and take time to answer questions. Although I have only had to use the helpline on a couple of occasions, the response was quick and oh so helpful. I would like to thank all the staff in Rheumatology at King's for all they do!

Review titled My maternity experience so far
by liberatorfn79 - Posted on 15 March 2023
As I sit here 9 months pregnant I am reflecting back on all my visits. I always wanted to write a review about my experience with the Harris Birthright Centre but wanted to wait at the end so it will all be one review bearing in mind this is my first pregnancy. So My 1st 12 week scan we was so excited and nervous as you can imagine as this is our first and you read so many things on the internet ( bad things) about this centre but thought I’d go in with an open mind. We had two songraphers in room who told me to lay down and then they continued with the scan. Seeing my baby for the first time made it all realistic and magical and I was very overwhelmed but that did not last long as the two staff that scanned me started to argue about a pen. One of them was very quiet and I kept having to ask them to speak up which they seemed frustrated about. My 20 weeks scan - As my first scan was such a bad experience I was not looking forward to this scan. I had two different staff members so I again had an open mind and put it down to the first staff being over worked? Anyways, in the middle of the scan one of them stood up and said excuse me I am just going to get someone. I started to panic thinking they something was wrong. Two staff looked at the second computer screen - not the one near me. I got very upset and asked if everything was okay. They said yes and that it was not my scan. I was very upset that they put me through that! I then got told I have a single umbilical artery and I must say they did explain it and sat me down and said they are going to do another few scans which is fine. 3rd scan (growth scan) I had in December by different staff again. They didn’t even acknowledge how nervous the situation was - I felt I was treated like a number, an inconvenience and they just wanted me out the way. 4th scan- was a trainee and another person who were absolutely wonderful, explaining everything, reassuring me the best they could (I understand they can’t say too much) but that was best. Last scan - as I was laying on the table a older person came in, just walked in on their phone, head down, no introduction or anything and they all proceeded to talk in a language which I couldn’t understand. This I found unacceptable. I was so worried and scared and it was such a daunting experience and very upsetting. I didn’t know if something was wrong or if they were talking about me. Overall it’s been an awful experience and my anxiety has risen because of this place. If I have another baby I will ask to avoid this centre completely.

Review titled Disgraceful !!!!
Rated 1 star out of 5

I would avoid neuro like the plaque. The lack of care in every single area of the staff is absolutely appalling. With holding medication leaving patient in severe pain after surgery not giving prescribed medicine that patient came into hospital with causing complete and utter distress !! Leaving patient in dirty bedding and night wear !! Not taking care in moving patient when in severe pain. Just complete lack of quality of care and disregard to how a patient feels. Some nurses should not be nurses.

Review titled I found it extremely painful
by SENmum - Posted on 20 March 2023
I went for a mammogram. I have just turned 50 so this is the first one I've had. I went to the mobile unit near the Phoenix Centre in Bromley. It was easy to find and was clean, tidy and well organised. They were ready at the time I'd booked and the two staff I met were pleasant and professional. I wanted to give some feedback about the actual procedure. The booklet says, Having a mammogram can be uncomfortable, and some women find it painful. I found it extremely painful and I also found it hard to get into the positions the radiographer wanted me to and to maintain them while I was in pain. It was not clear what positions they wanted me to get into. I do have some shoulder stiffness but not an unusual amount. They could have done with a poster or illustration or maybe a mirror? I realise when you do procedures all day it's obvious to YOU what you're trying to achieve but the radiographers should keep reminding themselves that for many of the women they see, this is the first time they've experienced it. Also "some women find it painful" doesn't really make it clear that we are talking about a significant amount of sharp pain (akin to a smear) repeated 4 times - I think next time I'd take a couple of paracetomol first. I am fairly flat chested and I also wondered if the manual handling is more of a problem if there's less tissue to get hold of? I have quite a high pain threshold by the way. I also noticed that as well as the automatic compressing function on the machine, the radiographer had a manual setting so maybe offer the manual setting straight up rather than waiting till your patient has shouted OUCH!? Anyway, this service deals with 50-70 year old women. Be honest! Say that it can be painful, offer the option of gradual manual adjustment for the compression and explain up front WHY compressing the breast leads to a better image (they couldn't tell me this). Overall it was a fairly horrible experience, enough so that I would seriously have to consider whether it was worth doing again for a 1/100 chance.

All staff were very helpful. The specialist was very knowledgeable and professional. The person put me at ease and explained the various options open to me. The best option for me was identified and a plan of action was put in place. The service was very quick.

Review titled Hope this helps and try not to worry
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Christine Hinton - Posted on 27 March 2023
Excellent care for my colonoscopy which is an embarrassing and unpleasant experience for most patients. My doctor was matter of fact, told me all I needed to know and I believe was very skilled. Apart from some pains as air was pumped in to push the probe round the the first bend I did not feel a thing, absolutely nothing including when he took off the two polyps. The nursing staff were kind and very competent too. As I had not had a sedative, I was able to go out to lunch afterwards and have felt fine since. This department deserves better accommodation. At present it is in the basement of an old building. Next time there is any renovation or new building, I hope you will be top of the list. Anyone about to have a colonoscopy one of the worst parts for me was drinking the laxative beforehand and the after effects of that. The liaison from the department beforehand was excellent, when they said they would phone they did and within ten minutes of the given time. I was also given a report immediately afterwards with photos of my colon, what they found and even what make of probe they used. I wish I could name the doctor who performed my procedure and hope you are able to pass on my thanks for his skill.

It was lovely that member of the A&E team stop to ask me if I was lost and if I needed any help. It’s the small things that make a big difference! Thank you.

Review titled Travesty of looking after the elderly
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 February 2023
Endless phone calls from Doctors/OT even doctors not dealing with my mothers issues to discuss her treatment. No organisation, no one talking with each other. Information given out completely wrong. The OT discharge mum the doctors didn't want too. No package of care for 93 year old with vascular dementia. Discharge letter states no catheter when she came home with one. Absolute travesty of organisation. Everyone involved should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and at the standard of care given to my mother (except the nurses who are terriffic) I would question their qualifications. I have never come across such a total lack of organisation. When mum was taken to kings for suspected stroke the team were marvellous. Cannot fault them but once on the ward it became total chaos in dealing with administrative matters. I feel sorry for any patient who has no family being sent to kings due to the lack of communication between departments.

Review titled Outstanding experience in the Catheter Suite
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by R M Underwood - Posted on 24 February 2023
In February 2023, I had the pleasure of being an outpatient for the day in the Catheter Suite at KCH. The staff were outstanding throughout the day, whether they provided me with food and cleaned up behind me, whether they were responsible for obtaining my details and checking my vital signs, or whether they were staff in the Catheter Lab who actually carried out the procedure. The latter team of people were exceptional, not only because of their professionalism in the way they carried out their work, but also in the way they supported me in the moments before the procedure began. Such dedication to the wellbeing of a patient is often taken for granted and perhaps expected. However, it should still be highlighted and brought to the attention of managers and directors.
