  1. Review titled Hope this helps and try not to worry

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Christine Hinton - Posted on 27 March 2023

Excellent care for my colonoscopy which is an embarrassing and unpleasant experience for most patients. My doctor was matter of fact, told me all I needed to know and I believe was very skilled. Apart from some pains as air was pumped in to push the probe round the the first bend I did not feel a thing, absolutely nothing including when he took off the two polyps. The nursing staff were kind and very competent too. As I had not had a sedative, I was able to go out to lunch afterwards and have felt fine since. This department deserves better accommodation. At present it is in the basement of an old building. Next time there is any renovation or new building, I hope you will be top of the list. Anyone about to have a colonoscopy one of the worst parts for me was drinking the laxative beforehand and the after effects of that. The liaison from the department beforehand was excellent, when they said they would phone they did and within ten minutes of the given time. I was also given a report immediately afterwards with photos of my colon, what they found and even what make of probe they used. I wish I could name the doctor who performed my procedure and hope you are able to pass on my thanks for his skill.

  2. Review titled Patient Friendly Hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

It was lovely that member of the A&E team stop to ask me if I was lost and if I needed any help. It’s the small things that make a big difference! Thank you.

  3. Review titled Travesty of looking after the elderly

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 February 2023

Endless phone calls from Doctors/OT even doctors not dealing with my mothers issues to discuss her treatment. No organisation, no one talking with each other. Information given out completely wrong. The OT discharge mum the doctors didn't want too. No package of care for 93 year old with vascular dementia. Discharge letter states no catheter when she came home with one. Absolute travesty of organisation. Everyone involved should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and at the standard of care given to my mother (except the nurses who are terriffic) I would question their qualifications. I have never come across such a total lack of organisation. When mum was taken to kings for suspected stroke the team were marvellous. Cannot fault them but once on the ward it became total chaos in dealing with administrative matters. I feel sorry for any patient who has no family being sent to kings due to the lack of communication between departments.

  4. Review titled Outstanding experience in the Catheter Suite

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by R M Underwood - Posted on 24 February 2023

In February 2023, I had the pleasure of being an outpatient for the day in the Catheter Suite at KCH. The staff were outstanding throughout the day, whether they provided me with food and cleaned up behind me, whether they were responsible for obtaining my details and checking my vital signs, or whether they were staff in the Catheter Lab who actually carried out the procedure. The latter team of people were exceptional, not only because of their professionalism in the way they carried out their work, but also in the way they supported me in the moments before the procedure began. Such dedication to the wellbeing of a patient is often taken for granted and perhaps expected. However, it should still be highlighted and brought to the attention of managers and directors.

  5. Review titled Terrible.

Rated 1 star out of 5

The receptionist at neurology is rude and unhelpful. The day of my appointment to neurology I phoned in the morning to confirm as I was coming from a long way. I had been waiting for the appointment for a long time as I was in chronic pain for over 2 months even though I was meant to be a urgent 2 weeks referral, for the receptionist to tell me .”oh it’s been cancelled” no email, no text, no phone call, no letter. I was so glad I rang!! Despite that she wouldn’t tell me why it was cancelled or when the new one was booked for. That afternoon I get my post, a letter from them cancelling my appointment?? On the day I was meant to be there? You have messed me around so much before this and after this. I do not have faith in the NHS system anymore, I will just have to continue being in chronic pain to which I do not know what the problem is. The system is all wrong.

  6. Review titled Not being properly followed up after surgery

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Antonio Rebordao - Posted on 18 April 2023

April 2023 Moving my 2 stars rating to 1 due to the recent developments. a) After having the long-awaited appointment the doctor asked me to repeat a scan that I already had done 4 months before (at his request) and if I wouldn't remind him of that, I would have gone to the stage I was 6 months ago. I expected that he'd have read my clinical history before the appointment... b) The doctor confirmed that the first surgery didn't go as expected and I would need to be again intervened in 6 or 8 weeks. It took them 20 months to reach this conclusion... Even if I suffer daily pain, sometimes unbearable and far worse than before the first surgery, I found out today that the doctor ended up classifying my case as non-urgent (while he said me the opposite) and I am now on a waiting list where people wait 35 weeks as average. I cannot accept this and I'll escalate it to the GP that referred me to the hospital. c) They may be overloaded with patients but I feel that I've been neglected and not properly followed up. November 2022 Last year I had a surgery at the Vascular Surgery and didn't go well. Since February 2022 my leg hurts daily and some days are hard. I managed to get an appointment with the surgeon in early August; and today I was eagerly going to meet him again to discuss what to do next. Then my appointment got cancelled at last minute and I was re-booked in 3 months time. The secretary told me that it was the managers decision to cancel today's appointments in the clinic and that there aren't free bookings until February. I am feeling frustrated because my pain is daily and these managers just condemned me to 90 extra days of pain. As it's not they that are suffering and in pain, it's easy to play and juggle with others discomfort. I feel neglected.

  7. Review titled Princess Elizabeth ward - Great ward

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 February 2023

Myself and my daughter have just left the above ward after staying there for 6 days and I cannot fault them. From nurses, doctors and surgeons all providing the best level of care an reassurance for my 11 year old daughter who had abdominal surgery. They worked hard to make her feel safe and comfortable, they had patience with her when She was nervous and nothing was too much for them. Just what a parent and child needs at a nervous time like that. Keep up the great work!

  8. Review titled Superb doctors

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dev Marshall - Posted on 28 January 2023

Visited the A&E on a Saturday and was referred to a Maxillofacial doctor for the stitching of a facial laceration. The doctor who treated me was professional, thorough and very kind. I barely felt a thing and the wound was closed up in no time. I got detailed advice on the aftercare, as well as, some spare dressings for the wound. Really impressed by the doctor who helped me. Thank you!

  9. Review titled Great staff, long wait time

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Dominic M - Posted on 11 January 2023

Hands off to the staff. They were very attentive, patient, compassionate and thorough from start to finish. I immediately felt in safe hands and despite long wait times and lots of patients coming through the doors, staff were courteous and professional at all times. Very impressive given the amount of pressure they are under. The total time from start to finish was 6 hours. But in this I had 3 ECG’s, 2 BP, 2 bloods and 4-5 consultations. Obviously it’s not ideal waiting around for that long but I can’t say it’s any fault of the superb staff. Keep up the great work and I hope you get a well deserved pay rise and all the resources you need to make your jobs easier to do.

  10. Review titled Fantastically caring MRI team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 January 2023

I had to have an MRI scan but I suffer from claustrophobia. The team at KCH couldn't have been more caring and got me through the experience with a smile. They gave me a bit more time than the scheduled appointment to make sure I could tolerate it and all of them (3 individuals in particular come to mind) went way beyond what might have been expected of them. At a time when I know they are under such pressure, I can't begin to explain how incredibly grateful I am. Thank you.
