A good experience. In less than 2 hours I had seen a doctor, had an x-ray on my foot, diagnosed with a fractured bone and discharged.

  2. Review titled Lack of follow up

    by Zippy50 - Posted on 28 November 2023

My husband was admitted recently with a fractured patella. He was discharged three days later. Discharge summary stated he would need to be seen in Fracture Clinic for an x-ray weekly. He has never received an appointment. Rang Fracture Clinic and they were unable to help. They transferred me to the Secretary. This was an answer phone stating that the secretary was working remotely but to leave a message. Followed instructions. They have not returned my call. The secretary had left another number to ring on their answerphone. I rang that number and got through to Newark Hospital, who told me that the message must be an old one as that secretary was on long term sick. Tried ringing PALS but again an answerphone. Who I wonder can get my husband (who is in his 70s) the treatment he needs?

  3. Review titled Fortunately I know more than the dermatology consultant

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Andy - Posted on 12 November 2023

Dermatology appointment for discussion concerning a lump on my arm that has the potential to turn malignant. I am autistic so requested reasonable adjustments. The hospital provided them all and they were fantastic. The consultant however was abrupt, rushed and I barely had much time to think or process what was said in order for me to make a decision as to how to progress. She brought a trainee in with her without informing me prior to this nor explaining to me who she was and why she was there which is important for autistic people to know. The consultant advice to me was to leave the lump and watch and wait whilst I suggested that if I did this, it could turn malignant. She said if it changed in any way then come back to hospital to which I stated obvious common sense which was to inform her if the lump was removed then it would not turn malignant, because it wouldn't be there anymore! Doh! Ignored her advice and now booked in for removal. Genuinely scary advice from a fully qualified and experienced medic. Everyone I came into contact with, other than the consultant seemed to have some autism awareness and provided for my needs.

They were all very very busy in A and E however their responses were measures kind and friendly professional. I was lucky my condition turned out to be less serious than originally considered. 6. Review titled Excellent treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Terence Holt - Posted on 01 November 2023

Yesterday morning I came to the Day Case Ward for a procedure on my throat. The whole experience was conducted in a kindly, yet professional manner. I was greeted with a smile by the receptionist at 7.30am, taken to the ward where all the necessary tests were done by the wonderful nursing team. In due course I was seen by the anaesthetist ,who thoroughly explained the procedure she would be overseeing. Shortly afterwards the surgeon came and explained clearly what he would doing to help my problem. The operation duly went ahead as soon as a theatre was available and I was gently cared for in the recovery room. Back on the ward the nursing staff were on hand for any help required, e.g. toileting and the discharge documents explained what had been done and that I would be called in for a post-operative consultation in 6 week's time. Overall it was an outstanding display of what King's Mill and the NHS has done for me. My heartfelt thanks to all concerned. Terence Holt

My 97 year old mother was taken to Kings Mill after a fall at her Care Home. Care was tremendous from start to discharge over to Newark Hospital today. Wonderful to be able to telephone and easily speak to someone who knew about my Mum’s circumstances. A big well done to all involved and thank you.

My son has just spent 10 days in the respiratory ward. He has a profound learning disability and severe epilepsy. All the staff were excellent, very caring and compassionate. However, the discharge procedure is appalling, currently been sat waiting for transport for 8 hours, no wonder the emergency admissions wards struggle to find beds. Surely it would pay in the long run to employ more ambulances for discharge, so freeing up beds quickly.
