My 15 year old granddaughter was recently admitted to Ward 17. The care she received was second to none. The staff went above and beyond their call of duty to ensure my granddaughter needs were efficiently met in a caring and empathetic manner. Many thanks.

  3. Review titled A and E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Having visited A & E on two occasions this week due to my husband being poorly. Every member of staff is caring and can’t do enough for you. I know sometimes its quite a wait but once you get to see the team dealing with you they are excellent and thorough. Diagnosis is explained in great detail and explained clearly to you and you feel reassured that you will get the best treatment.

I hardly know how to describe the magnificent treatment I’ve received from all parties related to my treatment and care. I can’t use mere words to express my deep gratitude for all of my care. No names (in case I miss anyone) but everyone from my initial screening up to my discharge has been wonderful. The care, empathy, and kindness is overwhelming From the bottom of my heart…….thank you for being there ❤️ Kindest Regards Glyn Glyn Pessol

  5. Review titled Unacceptable to prevent visits to elderly relative

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 August 2022

My father is 91, has a weak heart and kidney failure He has dementia and has fallen twice while in hospital and got a bleed on the brain from this. He has caught covid while in hospital. As a result Leighton Hospital are refusing to allow family visits. I haven't even been able to talk to him on the phone because the nurses cannot find the phone when I call. He does not know why he is there and what is going on. It is inhuman to refuse to allow visits in these circumstances. It has already been several days and is likely to be another week before he is discharged. I tried to call customer services but no one answered. It is time hospital acquired covid was not used as an excuse to prevent family visits from elderly vulnerable people.

  6. Review titled Just ace !!!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martin Williams - Posted on 20 September 2022

I was in Ward 10 for 4 days from the 7th August following surgery to put my hip back together after falling off a push bike and giving myself an acetabular fracture. Can I please say a massive thank you to everyone that put me back together, washed, cleaned, pushed me around, drugged, fed, watered, sent me off to Stoke for surgery and generally made my stay as comfortable as possible. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone and I am so grateful because you are all worth so much more... Am rubbish with names, so if you were part of the team looked after me then thank you, thank you, thank you......

  7. Review titled Think about dignity when dealing with the elderly!!

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Daughter of Patient - Posted on 02 September 2022

Mum is 81 she has other health issues besides what she was admitted for (TKR) especially around the toileting area. When asking a nurse on day shift "when passing could you please provide me with a commode" the nurse in questions shouted "I'll get to you when I can" mum then said "I'm not expecting you to drop what you're doing but I will need it shortly as I may wet myself" the nurse then replied "you wouldn't do it at home". Where upon my mother replied "I have been known to do so actually because of my mobility problems and only having one functioning kidney" The night staff were excellent and one male nurse in particular kept us informed every step of the way. On another note during surgery the surgeon accidentally cut my mother on her shin - this was reported and entered in the report log.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Wow what an outstanding department. Friendly and efficient and well managed. This is a department that should be held up as a great example of how a department can run. The planned intervention unit administers my intravenous biomedical medicine that is currently making life easier, I have active Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, the department make me welcome and the infusion is given with loads of professional attention and care. 5* star NHS LGBTQ friendly staff.

  9. Review titled Don`t have a mental health crisis at the weekends!!!!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 August 2022

Don`t have a mental health crisis at the weekend!!Yesterday I accompanied my friend who had been taken by ambulance to accident and emergency. He has a serious mental illness and was having suicidal thoughts and delusions. After a long wait he was eventually seen by a mental health nurse who said she couldn`t prescribe him any medication because he needed to be seen by his psychiatrist who didn`t work at weekends. When I asked if there was another psychiatrist in the hospital I was astounded to be told that no, they don`t work weekends. This mental health nurse eventually got one of the A&E doctors to agree to prescribe him some medication to calm him down but only after I told her how unhappy I felt about taking him home in the state he was in, especially as I have young children and he could not be left on his own due to the suicide risk. When we were eventually issued with a prescription we had a mad dash to try and find the only pharmacy open on a Sunday at 5pm in Crewe, as we were told the hospital pharmacy stops dispensing at 4pm. I would like to ask Leighton hospital if they think its acceptable that there are no psychiatrists working at weekends-do people only have a mental health crisis Monday to Friday 9 to 5? Do people not need medication around the clock?

Dear friend, I am sorry about your experience of A&E at the weekend but please be reassured that there is support in place 24hrs a day 7 days a week. In the first instance we always recommend that a person with an underlying mental health issues is supported by their mental health community team and that they have a regular plan for getting there prescribed medications on a weekly basis so not to run out. If they are not supported by a specific mental health service then we recommend the GP. I have not got the details of your friends specific case but please let me reassure you that CWP have a dedicated crisis telephone support line that is available for all to ring for support and advise around mental health and they are able to formulate a patient centred response based on the telephone assessment or when clinically indicated assess the person face to face. There is information about this on the internet and there telephone number is 08001456485. Along side this CWP also has dedicated crisis cafes in both the Crewe, Chester and Macclesfield areas where people presenting in crisis are able to go and seek appropriate support. During the weekend the acute hospitals do have access to a consultant on call and can get 24hr advise if staff need this to support patient care. At times of clinical need the consultant is able to respond and offer appropriate support / review within the hospital setting. Kind regards, Sally Hartley
