Review titled Awful telephone appointment with gastro consultant
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 February 2023
The gastro consultant called me for my appointment and it was a really disappointing experience. It felt like she was reading from a piece of paper & didn’t listen to my concerns. I have had treatment at other hospitals who implement the “my name is” approach so patients felt more than a number and I feel this organisation may benefit from this approach. I felt deflated and not confident In what was discussed as know my body and condition well. Rather than a tick sheet maybe listen to patients. I was interrupted at every word and feel like I was speaking to a call centre and decided not to proceed with care in the trust. We are humans not robots and a good manner and kindness goes a long way as some have us have been through a lot and if doctors struggle with telephone communication maybe it’s time to return to face to face: just my opinion in hope of an improved service for others

Review titled Treatment Centre
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Natasha - Posted on 17 February 2023
I was seen at the treatment centre. Everyone I saw was time efficient, friendly, approachable, person centred and explained everything clearly from the receptionist, consultants, nurses, sisters, surgeons, discharge staff. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy. I waited a minute at reception and was asked to come into another room to ask health conditions, check blood pressure, consent form etc. The professional reassured me that it would only take 5 minutes and shouldn't hurt. He then took me into a changing room to privately get changed into a gown with shorts and then escorted into a waiting room which had a TV, with other patients, some we're having sedation. I waited for about 10 minutes and was collected and went to another room. I sat on the bed and my stuff was put to the side. The surgeon and staff explained the procedure again. It was very quick and only hurt slightly for a few seconds on my lower stomach which was normal. I didn't need any gas and air. Then I got changed and went to the discharge room to have a cup of tea and biscuit. I rang for a family member to pick me up. I was then told i would need to be seen again for another appointment but luckily enough nothing was found during the procedure. I was out in about an hour. I thought I should write a compliment because I was so impressed and also grateful that I was able to have his procedure, to check for any problems.

Review titled Terrible communication
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Hannah - Posted on 28 January 2023
The Communication was terrible. Nobody told us what was happening, they kept moving us from one waiting room to another with no update on waiting times. my daughter is 5 and was sent in by our GP with a 40 degree temperature and heart rate 150. And we sat in the main waiting room with her vomiting over and over seeing nobody at all for over 2 hours. Then we saw someone who didn't introduce themselves or let us know what they were doing. who then sent us to the paediatric waiting room where we sat for another 2.5 hours. I know it's busy and short staffed but the communication was just awful and at least if you informed the patients what was going on it would make the whole process better for everyone

Dear Hannah, We apologise for the upset and distress caused on arrival to the Emergency Department. The streaming nurse team who complete the initial assessment aim to direct the patient to the right place at the right time to be seen by the right clinician. Unfortunately, due to the high number of attendances and acuity of patients, there is sometimes a delay. We are sorry that this delay was not communicated to you and will issue a reminder to the team of the importance of providing a regular update and ensure they introduce themselves and provide a summary of the process and next steps. We are also sorry to hear that the breakdown in communication occurred following the transfer to the paediatric waiting area. The department has seen an increase in attendance through the department in both adults and children. This then impacts on the waiting to be seen time for which we are sorry that you had to experience this. The Emergency Department nursing team have been made aware of the importance of ensuring our patients and parents/carers are informed of the time to be seen and are communicated with regularly. Kind regards Rachel Wilkinson Deputy Head of Nursing Urgent and Emergency Care

Review titled Excellent Service from Leighton Urology Dept
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Derek B - Posted on 03 January 2023
I have been treated by Leighton Urology for the past 3 months and received excellent service including tuition on how to use intermittent catheters, a prostate biopsy and a consultation with a Urologist on a potential treatment. Every one of the staff and support staff who have treated me have been excellent and throughly professional. The tuition was detailed and painless, the biopsy was undertaken with great skill and minimal discomfort and the Urologist could not have been more helpful, discussing all treatment options including those not offered by Leighton and kindly referring me to a Radiologist to discuss a Prostate Artery Embolisation procedure. I want to get the right procedure for me and my objectives and have used a mix of private and nhs consultation to determine the best outcome. I have to say that Leighton Urology have been extremely important in this process and their expertise and guidance has been key in me dealing with Nin malignant BPH and finding the right solution. Thank you to everyone involved in guiding/treating me.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to the staff in the A&E department! I was seen in triage straight away. I have visited leighton hospital for 3 outpatient appointments in the last month. Urology and gynaecology and I’ve got to say how fantastic you all are. It cannot be easy right now in this current climate. From the receptionist to the nurses and specialists. You all made my experience a whole lot better. by Barbara Coombs - Posted on 28 December 2022
I just want to say what caring and wonderful help I had from the lady on the patients’ help line when trying to track down where my Mum was in Leighton after she had been admitted to A and E. She appreciated my anxiety and did all she could to help me, including giving me her name and number so I could call her back.
