Review titled Outstanding Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Susan Johnson - Posted on 01 November 2023
I would like to thank all the staff who work on the Frail Elderly Assessment Unit at Leighton Hospital, for the high-quality care my 90-year-old mother received when she attended the unit on Tuesday 26th September 2023. Everyone was so kind and caring and nothing was too much trouble even though the unit was very busy. I was particularly impressed in the way everyone worked as a team to provide the best possible care and I liked the fact there was a consultant visible on the unit. I felt the doctor who was caring for Mum listened to me and I was consulted and kept informed as to what the plan would be for her care. Thorough tests were carried out and nothing was left to chance. There were some changes made to my mother’s medication and the pharmacists attached to the unit took time to explain these to me. They paid attention to detail, making sure my mother was prescribed medication which would be easy to swallow. The fantastic artwork in the long corridor is a great idea to help put people at their ease when reviewing mobility and completing assessments. Thank you once again – you are much appreciated!

Review titled Person Centred Care

by Susan - Posted on 15 October 2023
My husband was admitted to Leighton via the Emergency Department and it quickly became apparent how poorly he was. The care he received was exemplary in A & E, Ward 2 and Ward 3. I received support as his carer at every stage. I felt every effort was made to keep him pain-free and comfortable. All the staff he came into contact with were excellent. It always felt as if nothing was too much trouble. We were kept well-informed as a family. I would like to commend particularly the ward manager and all the staff on Ward 3, including the consultant and his medical team and also the physiotherapists, the dementia nurse and the palliative care team. I had no concerns whatsoever about his care. The only thing that I found difficult was in A & E there was a patient being supported by police officers and the abuse he was giving staff for several hours was very hard to hear. I have no idea what the solution would be.

by Mary Brotherton - Posted on 16 August 2023
I was really nervous and I could have turned back at any time, didn't want to be there. As soon as I was introduced to the team and they understood my concern, they immediately put my mind at rest. They were kind, thoughtful, helpful, understanding and caring. They explained my treatment in reassuring terms so I understood what would happen. Thank you very much to the team. You made me feel very happy. Thank you again.

Review titled Ridiculous
Rated 1 star out of 5

The waiting times in A and E are really ridiculous.after waiting for a whole day and then being told there was another 10 hours wait at 10oclock I gave up and returned the next day waiting until I could finally be seen turns out I had a severe infection and needed a strong dosage of antibiotics wich lead to me having to spend 3 weeks in hospital as I was not seen sooner whilst waiting I was offered nothing to eat or drink and the staff were very rude and uncaring.

Having recently moved to the area, this was my first time visiting the hospital (A&E). All of the staff were friendly, caring and thorough. Wait times were excellent, can’t thank the doctors and nurses enough for their excellent standard of care.

Review titled Appalled at how the elderly are treated
Rated 1 star out of 5

When I was first taken into A&E I can’t praise the doctor enough who treated me. I was then admitted to the Stroke Ward & transferred to Ward 2 during the night. I stayed on Ward 2 for some time & on the 2nd night I was informed twice by the senior nurse I would be transferred to another ward, which I found out was a Covid ward after another staff member told me it had been used to treat Covid patients. I was told it had been cleaned, which I didn’t believe as not enough time had passed for it to have been cleaned thoroughly. I was later transferred to Ward 7 which the senior nurse described as ‘lovely’ and she would accompany me. I decided first thing the following morning to discharge myself as I was fearful because I didn’t trust the hospital. I have since received adequate treatment at another hospital.

Review titled Pre and Post Surgery Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Michael Calloway - Posted on 16 August 2023
I would like to thank all those involved in my recent inpatient care and recovery. I was recently admitted for surgery, and cared for post op in Ward 28. I would like to acknowledge the care and support and information shared with me prior to my operation. I felt very reassured, and confident in the procedure I was to have. I would like to thank the Scheduling team in keeping me sighted on the date of my planned operation, I was particularly taken when I was called just before my operation to see if I had all the information I needed. Thank you. Finally I would like to thank all the staff and team on my ward who looked after my care post op. It was exemplary. A very kind and empathetic team.

Review titled no empathy

I was a patient for ultrasound and the staff were not compassionate and lacks empathy. The lady's facial expression while I answer her question was very unprofessional. Their gestures while doing the procedure and after the procedure has caused emotional trauma in me. They don't even care at all.

Review titled Amazing Experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Nat Wilson - Posted on 09 July 2023
I had a Laparoscopy 7th July 2023 ( it wouldn't let me put this date on this form being so recent. ) I would just like to thank all of your lovely staff for their service. I was very nervous. My first operation. I found all of the nurses very caring and reassuring. One student nurse even helped me put my stockings on, she was so lovely and I am sure she will go far! She was brilliant. One lady for some reason couldn't go ahead with the operation, and the nurses were so comforting to her and looked like they genuinely cared. After the operation the staff on the ward were equally as good. I was in severe pain after, and they constantly checking on me and the pain I was enduring, upping the meds then checking again. I felt well looked after. Thank you for your amazing service!

Review titled Poor service and even worse wait
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 July 2023
While the triage nurse was lovely, a woman in grey scrubs who was filling up water was extremely rude to patients. One patient asked how long it would be till she can see a doctor as she’s had a head trauma and feels extremely unwell. The staff member in grey they proceeded to shout at be little her infront of every other patient in the waiting area. She has no people skills and was very unhelpful. Also, the wait time to see a doctor was verging unsafe. I needed a blood test to check the paracetamol levels in my blood. It took no time to have the test done. However, then took 9 1/2 hours to speak with a doctor regarding the results. A woman next to be was having breathing difficulties and it was getting worse. She was waiting 10 hours and never had any observations done in the meantime. It took another patient to inform a member of staff that someone in the waiting room was unwell, in pain and being sick. Once this was done, she was then rushed into majors. This should not be done by other patients, if the staff were organised and had a safe level of colleagues working, it wouldn’t have happened. I truly worry for the safety of patients and also worry if I ever need to go back in a case of emergency. Please investigate the wait time. This was also early hours of Tuesday morning. You would expect this at the weekend.
