  1. Review titled Massive thank you!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had to bring my 14 year old Son to the Children's A&E yesterday where it was quickly identified that he would require Surgery. I cannot thank everyone who helped us enough. You all made the whole process as stress free as possible. Everyone involved was helpful, professional and incredibly kind. Especially the lovely nurse who wrapped him in warmed blankets!! Now thats service! I feel very proud to work for such an amazing hospital!

  2. Review titled Absolutely awful 2 years Plus - Frustrated

Rated 1 star out of 5

Young women experiencing problems with their bladder. Taken 2 years to get here and still the doctors are playing hot potato. Trying to fob me off onto other departments as to why I am having this problem. instead of trying to help find the cause there, suggestions are things that will cause long-term damage to my urinary system at such a young age. Extremely frustrated with the answers I am getting, "call you in 3 months" " has anything changed" and " oh well there is nothing we can do about that". No empathy or common sense for the realities and implications of a person my age. Constant waiting and wasting time with pointless appointments rather then doing.

  3. Review titled Great treatment, but poor organisation.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 January 2023

My appointment for diabetic eye screening was for 08.40 on 19/12/22, but due to a lack of organising no specialist nurse had been arranged to be available. It was only after the receptionist realised that I'd been waiting for over an hour that I was informed of the situation and that a specialist nurse was being brought in from another hospital. Finally I was dealt with very professionally by an extremely apologetic nurse who explained that there had been a mis-organisation. I finally departed the Lister nearly 3 hours after my appointment time for a treatment that usually only took about 30 minutes. Praise for the nurse and the treatment, but the organisation needs to be improved.

  4. Review titled Wonderful care and treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I recently had an operation in Kent where I am based and registered, my wound was leaking and became infected and I came to lister as I was staying in Hitchin. The care and treatment I received here was brilliant and I want to thank all the staff for their kindness and professionalism. You all do an amazing job under increasingly difficult circumstances. I will not forget how you looked after me during my visit. A massive thanks to all of you.

  5. Review titled Wonderful treatment at A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Amy’s mum - Posted on 10 November 2022

I want to share my appreciation to every member of staff on duty at Lister A&E on 5/11/22. My daughter was very poorly and was triaged very quickly. Very quickly after triage she was given pain relief. After seeing a specialist consultant she was given a multitude of drips and was constantly checked upon. In fact many of the patients in the waiting area were given drips with treatment. I have never seen this before. We needed to wait 12 hours for a bed to become available which is unfortunate but cannot be helped. The important thing is that treatment started in the waiting area and she was constantly checked on and made comfortable. The nurses and doctors looked exhausted, most were there the whole 12 hours, but continued to give everybody care rushing around constantly and with smiles on their faces. The 2,separate nurses in charge on the front nurses station we’re wonderful. I went to the front for regular updates and not once was I made to feel a nuisance. I received gentle reassurance and an apology for the wait. These people have nothing to apologise for. They are working above and beyond. It took 3 attempts to withdraw blood from my daughter as she was so dehydrated. She is very squeamish and has fainted while giving blood in the past. But the nurses who attended to her were so incredible at distracting her and even making her laugh that she was fine. There were two separate female patients who obviously were having a mental health crisis and were quite aggressive. They were treated with kindness, patience and respect. The second lady was particularly aggressive, was shouting profanities and became horribly racist. She was dealt with calmly but firmly with extreme professionalism. I honestly witnessed so much kindness and sincerity not only to us but other patients that I was quite moved. Please pass on my enormous thanks to all staff working at a&e on Saturday. They are all doing an incredible job and are beautiful humans. It does not go unnoticed and is so appreciated. As I said on a public forum, they deserve salaries ten times what they are being paid! Fingers crossed this new government will recognise this.

  6. Review titled Super helpful appointment with the orthoptist

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by florence scoresby - Posted on 02 December 2022

Sadly we did not get the name of the orthoptist we saw at the Lister on the aftrennon of 30th November, but wanted to say a huge thank you for his time and trouble really getting an understanding of the issues with my vision, and providing foil lenses for my glasses, which have made a substantial difference in allowing me to move around outside with more confidence and improved my functional vision for everyday tasks such as reading and watching television. A huge thank you!!

My 96 year old mother came to the department on Monday - her treatment was kind and compassionate and staff displayed a high degree of dementia awareness throughout.

  8. Review titled Fantastic staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Kevin Went - Posted on 09 February 2023

Good afternoon, I would just like to send my thanks and appreciation to all of your staff at Lister hospital. I was admitted last November as an emergency in some considerable pain and despite the unbelievable number of people waiting (100+) the staff were attentive, professional and polite throughout. I was sitting for some time near the charge nurses station and could not believe her good humour and organisational skills. Interestingly I noted that this level of politeness had a calming effect on patients some of whom were in considerable distress. Each time a patient thanked a staff member they all without exception said, you are welcome. Having waited around 17 hours in total they eventually managed to find me a bed and cared for me fantastically all the time ,again with humour and professionalism. I have since had an out patients appointment where again I was struck by all of the behaviours previously mentioned. I have no idea how human beings work day after day in what to many would be an intolerable situation and still maintain their professional compusure. We hear a lot about NHS Heroes which in my view is nothing but empty political rhetoric. The simple truth is we should all support the precious resource of the NHS, the staff in particular but also the fabric of the infrastructure and fund this appropriately. Once again thanks to all. You are a beacon of humanity in a strange world. Regards Kevin Went

  9. Review titled Where do I start….

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Luke Mansell-baker - Posted on 20 November 2022

Our little boy was recently admitted to lister hospital after falling very poorly. From start to finish we received such good care and treatment from all members of staff we encountered. the children’s a+e was packed and struggling with the volume of patients while we was there, I feel sorry for the staff as they were over run and in the firing line of impatient stressed parents even though it’s clear they were doing the best they could. Everyone made sure both my partner and I were ok during the whole process and well catered for. As for the health care I can honestly say I don’t think we could ask for a better service then we experienced, the whole medical team involved left no stones unturned to find out what was wrong with our son and how to move forward with his care. Everyone came across very genuine and concerned for our boy and that was of great comfort to us. We can’t thank everyone working with or in the bluebell ward for everything. Every member is a true credit to the Nhs and should be valued in the highest regard. The only thing I would say is the room needs a bit of an update. It’s not really child friendly or in great condition, especially if the stay is prolonged for any amount of time. This does not reflect on any of the staff in any shape or form. Once again we thank all involved in the caring of our son and supporting him back to health
