  1. Review titled Excellent service and care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 November 2023

My husband was admitted to this hospital after a heart attack. From the moment the ambulance took him to A & E to his care on ward 4 and the cardiac ward was excellent. He even enjoyed the hospital food! He is now back home and doing well. Many thanks to all the staff involved.

  2. Review titled My short stay surgery unit (5 star) experience of nose op.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Terry - Posted on 06 October 2023

Thie only happened yesterday so I can only comment on my experience of the Surgical Short stay unit (day unit). I arrived at the day unit at 11:20 for a 11:30 appointment and was "buzzed" in. I was a bit confused as there was a sign saying, "Day Eye Care", but when I approached the reception desk, they asked me if I was day care and told me to take a seat and that an anaesthesiologist and a surgeon would come and see me. The waiting area is clean, light, airy, with comfortable seats, a water dispenser, TV, clean toilets and secure as everybody has to be "buzzed" in and out. I sat down and logged into the free NHS Wi-Fi. I also read the sign on the wall that explains about the procedure for day surgery and stated that if you were a 11:30 patient, it could be up to 18:00 before you’re seen; not a problem as I was aware of this and had brought plenty of puzzles to solve. Not sure of the times, but an anaesthesiologist came and checked my details and explained the procure, followed by the surgeon who checked that I was fully aware of the procedure being performed. I carried on doing quizzes, at 15:00 I gave my wife a call to let her know I was still waiting to be seen so that she was aware that it would be late before I needed to be collected. At about 15:30 I was collected by my assigned nurse to change into a surgical gown and taken to the operating theatre. The staff in the operating theatre were smiling (always a good sign), helpful, reassuring and ensured that I was comfortable. They then connected me to the monitors explaining all the time what they were doing. At about 16:00 they administered the anaesthetic and the next thing I knew it was 17:30 and I was in post op. My assigned nurse was monitoring me when I came around from the anaesthetic and enquired how I was feeling and I said that I was OK, except that I had a very sore throat and dry mouth. He immediately gave me some pain relief followed by some water, having explained that they had wait to give me the water to ensure I didn't vomit; he continued to administer the pain relief until my pain had gone; when my assigned nurse had to take a break, his replacement was equally good. Whilst waiting to be moved to the male ward, my surgeon came to check on me and to say that the op had gone OK. At about 20:00 I was moved from post op to the male ward saying goodbye to my assigned nurse and being assigned a new nurse for my stay in recovery. My stats were taken and then I was offered food and drink and was given a nice sandwich and cup of tea. I was still feeling hungry so when my nurse came to take my stats I asked for a second sandwich, which the nurse fetched for me. My wife turned up at about 20:15 to collect me (I had called her earlier) and I was dressed, given contact details and aftercare instructions, and my medication; I left at about 20:45 to journey home. My experience couldn't have been better and I cannot praise the staff enough they were great.

  3. Review titled Extremely upsetting 1st time mother

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Saira - Posted on 22 February 2024

I would give a 0 if I could. I had my first baby at this hospital just 5 months ago, the whole experience has been horrific, whilst pregnant triage was disgusting I had to wait a whole day and night on a plastic chair to be seen by a doctor, night & day shift nurses wouldn't even do a handover. When I had my baby by emergency c section, my baby was not even put on my chest, I asked the doctor can I see my baby,he voiced to the operation doctors if I can see my baby no response. They put my baby on the table to be cleaned. When I came to the recovery waiting for a bed for hours. I asked about breast feeding a young nurse came and put baby on my chest, I asked how to feed she literally put the baby on my nipple, obviously now I know that's not the way, then baby was crying she took my baby and started flicking her sharp nails at the bottom of my babies feet he cried in distress, I started shouting stop doing that, I will take action against this. Later when taken to maternity omg the nurses are like headless chickens, no one came to even check if my baby done his first poo, no one showed Me how to breast feed, wen asked they just couldn't be bothered and gave me bottles. Then after a major emergency c section they dismissed me home next day. I came home that evening and fainted on the floor. No first time mothers should be treated this way, extremely upsetting

  4. Review titled Dissatisfaction

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I gave birth on 9.9.23 by emergency c-section. I was dismissed by hospital the next day I came home and fainted. When at hospital no one showed me how to feed my baby instead gave him a bottle, a nurse flicked on my babies feet to make him drink as soon as he was born made him cry, when instead they should have told me how to latch my baby onto my breast. After 1 month someone from my family told me how to get my baby to latch. Very upsetting that I didn't get any support to feed my baby properly.

  5. Review titled Excellent

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Luton and Dunstable Hospital does not have the greatest signage ever, but once I found the Urology One Stop department it was excellent. Plenty of seating, a television to numb the silence and fantastic, caring staff at all positions. Thank you.

  7. Review titled First Class Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My 92 year old Aunt was recently admitted to A and E with severe stomach pain. We cannot thank the staff of A and E and Emergency surgical unit enough for the truly wonderful care and attention she was given. Over the years she has had numerous diabolical admissions but this stay has restored her faith in human kindness and medical welfare. Each and every one of the staff need praising. Thank You.....

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The two ladies I saw today in the ultrasound department were so lovely, friendly and they helped me feel at ease. During my examination the lady was very informative about my procedure. Thank you to you both for making this experience more positive.

  10. Review titled Very Supportive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ami - Posted on 03 September 2023

I was in hospital for a few days due to low fetal movements. From the very first moment I walked in, until I left, the care I received from all midwives was outstanding. They were polite, professional and reassuring throughout my whole stay. Everyone was happy to answer questions and if they were not sure on the answer, they would seek the support of another colleague to find it. I cannot thank every member of the team enough. Thank you!
