  1. Review titled Good experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Linda Brennan - Posted on 19 May 2023

The colonoscopy department has a warm and friendly atmosphere. I was appointed a nurse that stayed with me from arriving to leaving the department. She explained everything and made the whole procedure so much better, just by remaining a constant. The hospital is modern, clean and fresh, and most importantly, local. We are so fortunate to have this facility on our doorstep.

  2. Review titled Fabulous Process

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Peter - Posted on 23 May 2023

I had a MRI scan. I was called in at my appointment time. The staff were friendly and informative. The process was great, obviously a scanner is an expensive piece of kit, the staff processed us efficiently, but not rushed. I have had scans before, but never as efficient as this. Somehow they seemed to get the most out of the resource while remaining friendly and giving confidence.

  3. Review titled Excellent appointment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

If am given a choice of hospitals I always choose Lymington. Arrived a little late this morning for my CT Brain Scan (traffic terrible) Nevertheless I was seen straightaway, staff there were most helpful, polite, kind & reassuring. Also helped me on with my shoes which I was struggling with. Can't praise them enough & thank you to them

  4. Review titled Dismissive attitude

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 May 2023

After recent surgery, my 84 year old mother was in quite a lot of pain. A visit yesterday evening from the district nurse resulted in us being told to call the GP the following morning, 9/5/23, explaining the situation and ask that the GP arrange an x-ray. This was done and after speaking to the Dr we picked up a letter from the surgery and arrived at Lymington X -ray dept. My mother was in a wheelchair as it was too painful to walk. At the reception desk the Dr’s letter was handed over for us only to be told that the Dr should have emailed it over as it wasn’t a ‘walk in’ service and my mother would be contacted with an appointment in due course! The severity of the situation was explained and the extreme difficulty involved in getting mum into the car etc. we asked if we could wait and be fitted in, at this time there was actually no one in the waiting area. The receptionist totally dismissed us with absolutely no empathy at all, repeating again that we would be contacted. Surely something could have been done today, especially as the GP had specifically written a request for an x-ray. The whole situation was difficult, frustrating and awfully distressing for my mother only adding to her anxiety and pain. We left with no indication as to how long we might have to wait and even though the GP had requested the x-ray as urgent the request obviously meant nothing.

  6. Review titled Very disappointed

Rated 1 star out of 5

Had Mri, and was extremely dissatisfied with the brief results. I have pes cavus with plantarflexion of first ray, and most Mri's can assess for tarsal coalitions and soft tissue pathologies. This is a structural foot deformity, and quite serious. But the radiologist report didn't mention anything except mild sesamoiditis and arthritis. I shall have the procedure done privately, but never again at the Lymington Hospital. No thorough diagnosis.

  7. Review titled Visit to Lymington hospital for an Echocardiogram

by A retired professional - Posted on 10 April 2023

My 92 year old husband was invited for an echocardiogram following on from the CT scan that he had previously undertaken to help with a diagnosis of his 2 incidents of sudden unconsciousness. This was naturally an anxious time for both myself and him as our previous experience in the CT scanning area, had been quite negative. I am very happy to report that this visit was completely different. Every member of staff that we encountered on our way to the echo room was polite, cheerful and helpful with absolutely no condescension. Once we were invited into the echo room the radiographer was professional, kind and willing to take time to explain what was going to happen and why. My husband was calmed by the approach and was able to respond to his questions. I felt reassured that this test was going to be helpful and that we were not being put under any great pressure but that our opinions and feelings were at the forefront of the experience. I would like to thank everybody concerned.

  8. Review titled Attitude of a member staff

by A retired professional - Posted on 17 February 2023

When I attended Lymington Hospital with my husband for his CT head scan I was impressed by the speed in which he was seen. In comparison to other local hospitals that my family have attended in recent years, my husband did not have to wait any longer than his appointed time. Given that he is 92 and has poor mobility, sight and hearing and has suffered from anxiety in health care settings previously, this was a welcome change. However, I was less than impressed by the attitude of one member of staff who treated us in an extremely condescending and patronising manner. They spoke to us like children, which they may have mistakenly believed was reassuring, but to my mind was anything but. I have spent a considerable amount of my life working with both older and intellectually disabled adults and I have never considered them to be deserving less than equal treatment and respect. When someone is in a new environment and needs to rely on others for support it is very important that they are reassured but not talked down to. I felt so frustrated that I wanted to actually remonstrate with this member of staff at the time, but was well aware that such protests would appear to seem ungrateful so kept my frustration to myself. But as a former manager of people I believe that this is a training need that cannot be ignored and so I am writing my views here.

Nicole, MRI/CT Lead Radiographer As the lead of the MRI/CT service, I would like to offer my apology, and I'm deeply sorry that you have had a negative experience when visiting the department recently. Also, that you were meant to feel that way. On behalf of the team please accept my apology. This has resulted in several important steps, that I have reminded all the staff about the importance of good/professional patient communication skills, and this should be in a caring/compassionate and dignified way at all times. I will also offer refresher training for staff, as a positive learning outcome/staff reflection and to avoid this patient experience from happening again in the future. I value your feedback, as this will result in better quality care/communication skills improvement, thank you. Would you like any further follow up? Best wishes, Nicole
