I had to undergo minor day case surgery on Mon 10/06/24- happened in the evening. I was understandably nervous, exacerbated by a considerable wait on the day for treatment. The theatre nurse who met me on ward and accompanied me to and throughout my treatment in theatre, really went out of her way to reassure me and allay my fears. Her kindness and humanity went well beyond her job description and was much appreciated. The ward was e-j and the theatre nurse's name began with the letter f (not allowed to put full name apparently) working for the consultant mr d. She is a real credit to the nhs and your hospital. I hope that she can be identified from the above description and given the recognition that she thoroughly deserves.

Dear Patient, Thank you for providing your feedback regarding your experience in the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. We are sorry to read of your wait on the day for treatment and recognise the anxiety and distress this delay would have caused you at what was already a stressful time. We take concerns extremely seriously and in order to address this, we are currently looking into how waiting times can be reduced and effective communication can be enhanced regarding any delays experience by our patients. Thank you for your kind comments regarding the theatre nurse who looked after you. The staff member has been identified and your feedback has been passed on to the staff member and her line manager. She is extremely pleased to read your kind comments and an Excellence Report has been submitted by her Matron to recognise her kindness and humanity. Once again thank you for your feedback that allows us to improve our services. Kind Regards, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

Review titled Wonderful care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a corneal graft operation at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital which necessitated staying overnight on Ward 55. From the moment I arrived, all the staff were excellent in their care and professionalism. From the person on the reception desk, the nurses, doctors and consultant to the person helping with meals and cleaning the ward, I have nothing but praise for the whole team. The follow up appointments have been prompt, thorough and extremely helpful with input from the consultant each time. I have nothing but praise for this wonderful hospital and would recommend it to anyone.

I recently attended the eye hospital for laser surgery for diabetic maculopathy. The procedure was fully explained to me and was quick and painless. All grades of staff were friendly, helpful and caring. The management of diabetic eye care is excellent. Thank you to our wonderful NHS.

I attended outpatients H this morning (due to a squint) and was seen at my exact appointment time and my eyesight tested by a lovely woman. I was then immediately taken to outpatients B for a repeat Botox injection into the eye muscles. All staff in the department are lovely and I have never had to wait long for any appointment.

The matron for Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Eye Emergency Department (EED) is sorry to hear about you and your wife’s experience of triage at what must be a worrying time for you. I hope to assure you that the Trust strives to provide patients with respect and dignity, and I am disappointed that we did not achieve this for you on this occasion. Staff should always treat patients with kindness and empathy, and I am sorry this did not happen. Patients are referred to EED from various sources, and we should be mindful that this is a stressful time and that we should provide reassurance and support. Please be assured, I have shared you experience of triage with the EED managers to discuss with their team members. We take patient and service user comments very seriously, as they help us monitor and improve our services. Once again, thank you for your feedback which allows us to improve our services. Should you wish us to investigate your concerns further, you can contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on telephone 0161 276 8686, or email pals@mft.nhs.uk, quoting reference number P024/00037, they will do their best to address your concerns. I have attended the eye hospital 3 times this month due to emergency eye surgery. Each time I am struck by how lucky I am to have such an outstanding facility so close to home. All the staff that I encountered; receptionists, nurses, students, doctors and consultants were friendly, caring and professional. The eye emergency department was incredibly busy both times I had to attend, yet all the staff members were calm, caring and welcoming. I am really grateful to everyone that I came into contact with on my visits for reassuring me and caring for me during a scary and worrying experience. Many thanks to all!

Review titled Fast, efficient and caring

by Gerard Lee - Posted on 22 February 2024
Brought in on a cancellation. Arrived 10 minutes early and seen immediately. Went through each of the necessary stages for my eye condition so quickly that I did not have time to finish my 'quick crossword'. Everything explained fully at each stage. All staff welcoming and pleasant. Next stages of treatment clearly outlined.

Review titled Appalling waiting times for oculoplastics
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I was referred by my GP in september after developing a charlazion on my right eye. Not only was it unsightly but it was also painful. I had to stop wearing my contact lenses and attended their emergency department. I was told by the Dr that there were hundreds of people waiting for the same procedure and that I would have to go home and wait for an appointment. I went back to my GP after developing another charlazion on my left eye. Due to the size and location of the charlazia ( upper centre lids), it started to affect my sight. Also my eyelids felt very heavy at times. Despite my GP chasing up the referral they replied that it was common for multiple charlazia to appear. They did not bother to ask for a picture and just expected me to put up with it. My mental health has suffered immensely. I cant bear going out and meeting up with friends. I work for the NHS and have been so tempted to take time off work. I also have a toddler to look after home. It's January now and I still havent heard from them.
