  1. Review titled Shocking lack of communication

Rated 1 star out of 5

My eldery grandfather with dementia was admitted to a&e late tuesday night. Phone calls were made to the hospital for updates on his condition to no avail. family members tried to get through all day with no answer. Nobody from the hospital contacted us to update anyone of his condition, treatment etc. Finally got his location from the switchboard almost 24hrs after his initial admission and an update from the ward to pass onto his wife and daughters.

The rheumatology help line phone is absolutely terrible, I leave a message because I need help with pain and swelling and it’s been 4 days sometimes before they return the call, I have now been told that the phone line is running a week behind, how is that a help line? When you do get a response they’re not a great help without going to the consultant for advice!!!

  4. Review titled Cancelled Orthopeadic Operation

Rated 1 star out of 5

My 96 year old father had a fall on Wednesday 8 February. The paramedics were slow but A n E even slower. He was put on a gurney in the corridor with a fractured pelvis and in pain. He was scheduled for an op on Thursday 9th February but it was cancelled in the evening. He had gone all day without sustenance and finally at 9pm was given a sandwich. Told his op would be scheduled Friday morning on the 10th February. At 5pm today 10th February after another day of NBM he was told that the op had been cancelled. He’s hungry and in pain when he moves. No one communicates with the family despite having contact details and despite innumerable calls too to the unit no one picks up the phone. When will my father get his op? No one knows. Despicable treatment of an elderly gentleman who has rarely troubled the NHS all his long life and in his hour of need he is failed. Very disappointed at the lack of concern, lack of empathy, poor performance.

  5. Review titled Amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rachel - Posted on 12 January 2023

I recently had to take my 6 year old daughter to the magpie unit for a blood test. After having been to 4 separate clinics around Medway and them poking and prodding her with needles in both arms and still not managing to get the blood they needed. I can’t get over how brilliant the staff are at Magpies. The time, care and patience they gave to my daughter was amazing. Once she finally settled down, they managed to do everything they needed first time. She finally knows that a blood test isn’t that bad at all. I would really recommend taking children there for blood tests instead of local clinics.

We're so pleased that the team on Magpie were able to reassure your daughter enough to be able to successfully perform a blood test. Hopefully it was less traumatic for her (and you) because of their care. We'll share you comments with the team and thank you for sharing. best wishes The Patient Experience Team

  6. Review titled "Lack of care"

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I came to this hospital for an issue, that had me referred the next day to Medoc. The receptionist was very unwelcoming & her body language & attitude was clearly showing she wanted to be anywhere else doing anything else. I then went to take a seat, now the phlebotomy section was very quick & efficient but that's where the effienciency stopped. 12 hours of watching people come & go, whilst I was only seen once & told to sit back in the waiting area. After 12hrs I'd had enough & asked if I could leave, which they agreed with but set me up an out patients appointment for a scan.. im now currently waiting back in Medoc to get my results, it's currently 12.15pm & my appointment was 10.20am, not one person has updated me on wait times & only 4 people have seen a dr/nurse in those 2hrs!!

I was rushed into Emergency with narrow complex tachycardia and I was extremely impressed with the efficiency and response to my situation. Everyone was lovely, kept me calm and explained what they were doing and why. I could not have received better treatment.

  8. Review titled Amazing staff in the Children’s emergency department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 January 2023

I had to take my daughter to the children’s emergency department this evening . I can not thank them enough for the level of care and compassion shown . The consultant and nurse who saw my daughter were truly amazing they were so kind , caring and compassionate took the time to speak with her , throughly assessing her and given a swift diagnosis. The consultant we saw appeared to be South African and explained he had come in today at short notice due to his colleague being unwell . He was so kind and reassuring whilst doing all his assessment and medical checks . He really does show how amazing the people are who work for our NHS that’s why we should be proud and respectful to our service and its staff .

  9. Review titled Pathetic experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 March 2023

I had a severe swelling with abscess formation in the middle finger of my left hand in Jan 2023 and it increased with severe pain and swelling on 09 Jan 2023. The infection was increasing. I was suggested to go to ae . I went to ae Medway Maritime Hospital around 4.30-5 pm and waited till 10 pm but no one even triaged or did initial diagnosis of my condition. All this while the pain and swelling was increasing in my finger. I went to counter and enquired several times about triage or at least initial consultation but they were not responsive and asked me to wait. I could see there was no proper triage and efficient process to keep the patients queues moving. Some co-patients seemed to wait since morning 10 am. And this was ae, Serious pathetic medical facilities especially Medway kent region. I have seen it deteriorating over the period of time,I had consulted ae in East Sussex few times, they were more prompt in catering to the patients and trying to treat them on time. If such is the state of conditions of ae at Medway Maritime hospital or Kent nhs hospitals, not sure how the patients are surviving, seriously we need to think how to improve it and take necessary actions to improve the patient experience, communication, process and treatment to the patients.

  10. Review titled A lovely experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Attended for an echocardiogram. The staff were so warm and friendly and quietly efficient I was put at ease from the moment of arrival. I was seen promptly, everything explained, couldn't fault it. Appreciated now I'm 91! Pleased to see a department where mask wearing (staff/patients) is necessary. Thank you all.
