Review titled Care from start to finish
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 November 2023
My wife fell while visiting the area from Cornwall. This necessitated an emergency admission for reset of two bones and then surgery to plate the arm. From start to finish the care she received was of the highest order. You could not ask for more. It was an example of the NHS at its best. Somerset is lucky to have such an amazing hospital. Well done to everyone who helped in what was a stressful situation.

It's always lovely to receive positive feedback acknowledging the hard work and supportive care our staff colleagues provide our patients and families. I am very pleased you felt supported throughout your admission. I do wish your little boy a speedy recovery from his bronchiolitis illness. I will pass your feedback onto everyone who looked after your son on Acorn ward and I will also share with the whole of the children's unit - everyone will be very appreciative of your feedback. Thank you again! Kindest regards Dr Holly

I cannot thank the team enough for all of their help and support today from the minute we arrived we were met with nothing but care and courtesy. From the lovely lady on the ward, the anaesthetist, the consultant and everyone else all helped the procedure go so smoothly and our son was calm and comfortable throughout. Thank you all so much

Review titled Good cardiac service
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 November 2023
Staff and Dr's were extremely simpathetic and helpful. The only down side was my husband was unable to collect me from the disabled car park. This is in spite of being able to be dropped of for surgery using the disabled blue badge. I was angry that I was not allowed to be collected after surgery. The system does not allow disabled people to be collected.

Review titled Excellent service at the Beacon Centre, Musgrove.
by Chris Pratt - Posted on 16 December 2023
All of the staff within the Beacon Centre who attended to my Radiotherapy treatment over 20 days were most caring, profession and diligent. Were extremely helpful in dealing with concerns and showed a genuine interest in their patients. The building helped the experience, was well laid out and a pleasant environment to be treated in. Well done.

Review titled Outstanding staff and treatment.
by Maddison - Posted on 09 December 2023
I was admitted into Surgical admissions lounge on Thursday with an infection and had to be put on an IV drip for the weekend. Let me start by saying I have the worst veins, I’m ridiculous to get blood from and I’m an anxious patient. The level of compassion and care I have received from every single member of staff that has been working from the nurses, HCA’s and porters has been absolutely amazing. The change overs have been perfect, everyone knows what they are doing and what their patient needs and it’s made a very hard situation for me, very bearable. My veins have been a massive pain to get blood from and do the cannulas and drips and every nurse has been so gentle and not made me feel like I’m stupid for being in pain. I am so so thankful for our NHS and these wonderful men and women who still hold so much compassion in their job. Thank-you so much to everyone on that ward, you are amazing people.

Review titled All staff polite, but had to wait for hours
by JoanneW418 - Posted on 27 November 2023
Son referred by GP to PAU for USS. Seen and referred to urology-planned to return following day for emergency surgery. Arrived on Oak ward. Told in bay 1 but had to ask where that was. All staff polite but had to wait 10 hours for theatre due to other emergencies No fluids PO or IV during this time. No explanation that was parent kitchen or bathroom . Had surgery and returned to ward - limited communication re next step- hoping to go home but faint on standing and needing morphine. No patient table. No jug of water provided. No call bell given or explained. No TTAs ready - considering original plan was for discharge day before I am confused why TTAs were not ready. Meds ordered from pharmacy. Only 1 proper patient chair in bay so had to stay sat on bed. Small things are important to patients and relatives. Explain where things are, provide basics- table, chair , water. Clear regular communication re what is happening.

Dear JoanneW418 Thank you for reaching out about your recent stay on the Children’s unit, I’m sure having to retell your story wasn’t easy. We always welcome feedback, as sharing experiences help us improve on patient care significantly going forward. I am so pleased that you found all of the staff polite, May I take this opportunity to apologise on behalf of everyone on the Paediatric Unit that your experience on the ward isn’t as it should have been. It’s always a really worrying time when your child is admitted to hospital, even more so when they need surgery. We pride ourselves on giving the best care, not only to our Children and young people but also to their parents and carers and I’m really saddened to hear that you haven’t experienced the care that we aim to give. I hope your son is recovering well following his surgery. We do take all feedback very seriously, I have spoken with Caroline Jackson the Paediatric Matron regarding your concerns, and it would be really useful to get some more details about when you and your son attended Oak ward so we can look into this further. Caroline would welcome a conversation with you if you felt able to talk about your time on the unit and can be contacted via email caroline.jackson@somersetft.nhs.uk Can I once again thank you for taking the time to give your feedback and say how very sorry I am that your stay was a difficult one. Yours Sincerely Ang Giles

Review titled Arrival of our twins
by Jez123 - Posted on 16 November 2023
Our twins arrived in the world yesterday, with a bumpy start our first born was dashed off to NICU to help with breathing. It was a scary experience seeing our baby gasping for air, but we felt reassured by the the fact the team informed us what was happening immediately and we could see they knew what they were doing. We felt welcome at NICU from the get go and the team were excellent in talking us through what was happening throughout her stay. Meanwhile her sister/mum was getting some extra help on Fern Unit with feeding, which was excellent and really appreciated. We were able to reunite within 24hrs thanks to the hard work of NICU! Overall a great experience, so thank you.

Dear Jez123 Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, it is great to read that everyone was there to care and support you all through what is such and exciting, emotional and yes, sometimes a little scary as you become a family. I am so pleased that the twins are now together again and you have your complete family unit in one place. I will be sure to share your message with the teams involved. Congratulations to you both and enjoy your new babies

Review titled Cashless car parking
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 November 2023
I had to rush to A and E with a relative in an emergency…no time to grab my purse. After 3 hours waiting for her to be seen, I had to leave her there. I was already stressed and further distressed by having to use the multi storey car park. I managed to scrape together some pound coins from the central console of the car. I was horrified to find the charge was £9.00, but absolutely distraught to find it was card only. I could not find another machine that took cash. This is disgraceful. Luckily it was during the daytime and busy. A kind Samaritan paid with his card. This is just Not right. Many People using this car park are bound to be already distressed due to illnesses, trauma etc. Please bring back Cash.
