  1. Review titled Excellent Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Went to eye infirmary and was immediately made to feel welcome by the staff they approached and acted with a caring mood making me feel at ease and not nervous/anxious during my visit. They also had a sense of humour which can make anyone feel at ease if you are anxious. Doctors and NHS staff explained what was wrong in an easy to understand and gentle manner reassuring me it wasn't anything to worry about and can be sorted and I was referred. The process was swift and didn't take long. Highly recommend attending.

  3. Review titled Great Staff!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Chris G - Posted on 27 January 2023

I attended ENT for a sinus procedure - which couldn't be done after a few attempts. The staff were absolutely lovely and made me feel at ease, talked to me throughout and the specialist could not apologise enough for not being able to complete the procedure (which wasn't his fault I would like to add). So now got to have procedure under general anaesthetic but know I will be in good hands with the team and the specialist. Thank you to the team who dealt with me - keep up the good work!

  5. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Marcelle Rollings - Posted on 11 January 2023

I received my 6th dose of chemotherapy yesterday. The nurse who managed my care was the ultimate professional, courteous, kind and caring. I am a nurse myself and she reflected what I call "old school training" She was extremely knowledgeable and eager to impart her knowledge to a junior colleague without being patronising. She paid attention to detail and I felt safe in her care. There were 2 other nurses plus 2 care assistants within that bay who between them all contributed to an efficient and calm environment for them to work within and for patients to experience. I feel this is challenging to achieve in such a fast paced area such as chemotherapy suite, with a high turnover of patients, all on different treatment regimes. Without wanting to sound patronising well done!

  7. Review titled Urgent referral to Eye Infirmary

    by violetef68 - Posted on 10 February 2023

Urgent referral from my optician, who diagnosed central vein occlusion. The staff member on reception was rude and uncaring (I was stressed to have lost the sight in my left eye). Told to take a seat, I should have been seen straight away due to time to treat occlusion is 4 hours. 90 minutes later care assistant commenced triage. A senior member of staff saw the referral and told them I needed to be seen ASAP - I still waited another 30 minutes. The consultant was very kind but informed me the time limit for successful treatment had passed and there was nothing they could do for my sight loss and referred me to the stroke team. Staff involved in triage should be trained to know what is urgent and essential treatment. The letter I had explained the urgency. I also feel that they need to show compassion.

  8. Review titled Unpleasant environment

    by muscatb54 - Posted on 09 March 2023

The Deansley Ward, where do I start? My loved one was unfortunately admitted onto the Deansley ward, which I feel is a tatty ward in desperate need of some updating! Not a pleasant environment when you are at your lowest. We found the staff morale to be very low which created an unpleasant atmosphere. Lots of whispering in corners by some members of staff who it appeared did not want to be there! The junior doctors are doing their best but are facing a lot of pressure from consultants. I so wish folk would remember this is real life and not just a conveyor belt of patients. Sort yourselves out Deansley, or transfer somewhere else.

  9. Review titled Poor experience in the delivery suite

    by polarisbt64 - Posted on 08 March 2023

My partner and I were in the hospital for a C - Section in October. We found the care on the delivery suite was atrocious. My partner was in a lot of pain and discomfort following the section (as we were later told they were out of the normal pain killer given before the surgery and the replacement was not as good - would have been good to know this information beforehand to help mentally prepare). My partner needed help getting on and off the bed and for the first 2 days walking to the toilet. Whilst I was visiting we asked a midwife if they could watch our newborn whilst I helped my partner to the toilet, the answer was that she will be fine. As parents who lost our daughter the year before you can imagine our anxiety and anger at this response, they wouldn't even help my partner to the toilet. Whilst using the facilities my partner noticed blood. She was alarmed and pulled the emergency cord...…10 minutes it took for someone to attend.....and the response was that they didn't know what we wanted them to do! Are you serious?! Help, you are a healthcare professional, not just the welfare of newborns but of the mothers too! My partner returned to the bed in floods of tears as she was in too much agony to bend over to fully clean herself....that's just degrading treatment. Fortunately someone did come and help her clean herself. This wasn't the only issue, we also had trouble feeding our daughter, just wanting someone to watch and give guidance (surely part of the job). It appeared that no one could be bothered, so that night as I left, distressed as my partner was upset, I was upset and our daughter not feeding properly. I asked if i could stay just to help out a little bit more....the answer was no, in what I found a rude manner. I was given no reassurance that mother and daughter would be looked after when I left. I feel that a review of the department is a must. When you can hear a assistance bell ringing and the midwives are seemingly sat outside just eating. It is their job; if they don't want to help people then they shouldn't work in a hospital. In a time where mental health is so prominent, I am shocked that new mothers and parents can be treated this way. It is meant to be a happy, exciting time but that was ruined by these midwives. However prenatal care and early assessment were fantastic, we had extra scans and whenever we had doubts on movements they were never judgemental, always friendly and polite and very reassuring, they made the journey fantastic. [Very unhappy with 'Staff attitude']

  10. Review titled Awful place

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 December 2022

I came to children's emergency by ambulance with my 8 weeks old son at 5.45am we was sat in waiting room. We was then out in a room at 6.00am so he could go on a stats machine. We was then left until 10.00am before anyone even came in to examine him. Which is appalling he is a newborn baby that was breathing very rapidly and I was a concerned, worried mother. A doctor examined him finally at 10.00am didn't tell me anything just said 'was going to look at my son's notes and come back' he never did. A nurse came and took some swabs and took his observations. I thin never heard anything or no one came in the room until 2.00pm when a nurse did my son's observations. I had to ask 'what was going on with my son' for her to tell me 'we was going upstairs and the doctor would be in to talk to me' . No one came. We then got moved upstairs at 4.00pm. I was told it took this long as their was no cots available for my son in peadriatric assessment unit and that is why I had to wait so long. But this was a lie as their was lots of empty beds and cots in the different bays. I am really not happy with the care my son received in the emergency department, my son was newborn and should of taken some priority. It was a scary time for me and I wasn't reassured at all. If for any reason my son has to be taken to emergency again I will request to not be sent to new cross as I would not like to come back again.
