Review titled Wonderful treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 July 2023
I came to A&E by ambulance last week, was quickly seen by the doctor, had bloods taken and a CT scan. Was soon diagnosed and had a procedure later that day to open a blockage. Thank you to all the staff who treated me so well in A&E, Urology, and on King George V ward. I couldn't have asked for better treatment.

Review titled A&E visit

My husband lacerated his scalp quite badly yesterday evening. Sadly we did not like the general attitude of the triage nurse that saw him. Was informed of a 4 hour wait, which we understand is beyond their control, but when my husband mentioned he may go to the minor injury unit in Okehampton in the morning to save the wait, and indeed, their workload, she said that’s your decision followed by “I don’t get paid enough to tell people what to do”! And then, “Can you go back to the waiting area, I have lots of patients to see”! People just need treating, they don’t need to hear this! And she even suggested that minor injuries may not see him because “it’s a head injury”! Which was incorrect because it was indeed a minor injury, not a skull fracture! He was seen the next day at Okehampton MIU with the minimum of fuss and even had a tetanus jab! We understand the plight of hospital staff these days, and the lack of sufficient pay, etc, but to vent this to patients is inappropriate and in my opinion, unprofessional. Perhaps some staff need pulling up on how they speak to patients and indeed their accuracy on matters!

Review titled Wonderful, I couldn't have asked for better care.

I recently had an operation on my thumb at NDDH. I cannot sing their praises enough. From the moment that I arrived til I left I was treated kindly, professionally and with the utmost care by all involved. I was kept informed of the timescale of my op and for any delays that may occur during the day. My op was carried out by not only professional folks but 'real people' who not only took my mind away from my anxiety but made me laugh. I'm not sure if you can describe an operation a 'delight' but they were all delightful.....and I thank them all jane

Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Wendy Mortimer - Posted on 15 March 2023
I arrived by ambulance with a wonderful crew and was treated with excellent care. All the staff were wonderfully kind, efficient, patient and cheerful although very busy. I was kept in overnight and the staff on MAU, Bay 1 were the same. I was out of area and I am very grateful for the care I received and would like to thank everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to leave positive feedback following your x-ray. I'm glad that we were able to be super efficient and you didn't have to wait very long in the department for your x-ray. We have recently undergone a huge program of equipment replacement in radiology which means that we now have brand new digital x-ray machines in all of our general x-ray rooms that produce the images much quicker for us, as soon as the exposure is taken, and so has sped up appointment times and helped us to reduce our waiting lists. It's also always nice to know that patients have found our staff to be friendly and efficient, I will be sure to pass on your positive feedback to the teams involved. Kind regards Gill

Review titled Great experience

Today I had a first appointment with a Gynae consultant. Due to illness, a consultant from Exeter filled in for the clinic. This doctor was engaged, empathetic, supportive, respectful and reactive. I came out feeling positive, cared for and like a solution could be found. Excellent.

Review titled Excellent care

I write this as a visitor of an elderly patient who was on Capner Ward for several weeks. Although the staff were extremely busy, the care shown to my friend was exceptional and I know she was very grateful. So many staff from the Nurses, HCAs, catering and cleaning staff showed so much compassion and concern for her mental and physical well-being. They were also extremely helpful to me as a visitor. The way the staff also ensured that my friend was treated with dignity and also took a few minutes in their busy schedule to talk to her, and to take a real interest in her, which I know lifted her spirits immensly. I am full of admiration of the dedication and commitment of the staff on that Ward. Thank you.

From the moment I arrived in the ward I was treated with kindness. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt well cared for from the housekeeping staff to the surgeon. Any questions I asked were answered and I was put totally at ease about my procedure. Cannot praise this team enough.

Review titled Orthopaedic Interface = not good
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Chloe - Posted on 11 April 2024
This service blocked me from getting the care and operation needed - There was a misreading of my mri scan resulting in more than 4 months of horrible pain whilst waiting to be ‘allowed’ to see a surgeon. During this time I was instructed to stop taking the nerve blocking medication (for nerve pain) as this was blocking the ability to prove I had nerve irritation. Despite the spinal stenosis, the herniated disc and the osteophyte impingement on l5 as stated in the radiology report and as clearly visible on the mri. The orthopaedic interface personnel made me feel like I was lying. Like I was wasting their time, faking my symptoms and that I was an irritating burden that would be a nuisance to the surgeons - as there would be nothing that they could do. Extremely reluctantly, they agreed to forward my details to the surgeon. I was contacted within a week and upon finally getting to see an orthopaedic surgeon, they acknowledged that surgery was my only option- it had taken more than a year of crippling and unnecessary pain by this point. I am making this review now, as other family members have also mentioned that the interface service is blocking their ability to get vital surgical assessments that do not ‘miss’ essential factors during diagnosis. I am post surgery- and couldn’t fault the care and attention I’ve received from that part of the service. It’s just such a shame that the interface service caused me so much additional pain and entirely unnecessary stress.
