  1. Review titled Wonderful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Patricia Hindmarch - Posted on 27 January 2023

From the moment I arrived in the ward I was treated with kindness. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt well cared for from the housekeeping staff to the surgeon. Any questions I asked were answered and I was put totally at ease about my procedure. Cannot praise this team enough.

  2. Review titled Orthopaedic Interface = not good

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Chloe - Posted on 11 April 2024

This service blocked me from getting the care and operation needed - There was a misreading of my mri scan resulting in more than 4 months of horrible pain whilst waiting to be ‘allowed’ to see a surgeon. During this time I was instructed to stop taking the nerve blocking medication (for nerve pain) as this was blocking the ability to prove I had nerve irritation. Despite the spinal stenosis, the herniated disc and the osteophyte impingement on l5 as stated in the radiology report and as clearly visible on the mri. The orthopaedic interface personnel made me feel like I was lying. Like I was wasting their time, faking my symptoms and that I was an irritating burden that would be a nuisance to the surgeons - as there would be nothing that they could do. Extremely reluctantly, they agreed to forward my details to the surgeon. I was contacted within a week and upon finally getting to see an orthopaedic surgeon, they acknowledged that surgery was my only option- it had taken more than a year of crippling and unnecessary pain by this point. I am making this review now, as other family members have also mentioned that the interface service is blocking their ability to get vital surgical assessments that do not ‘miss’ essential factors during diagnosis. I am post surgery- and couldn’t fault the care and attention I’ve received from that part of the service. It’s just such a shame that the interface service caused me so much additional pain and entirely unnecessary stress.

  4. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I listed this review under 'don't know' because the service is not included in the list of departments! Also, as capital letters are not permitted, this review lacks necessary detail. It relates to the sdec department (Same Day Emergency Care). I attended with my wife on two days this past week because our GP decided that she should have a brain scan following a fall because of a continuing headache since then. It was arranged for her to be seen in the sdecdepartment. The staff were excellent and caring and the whole idea of sdec, set up recently to relieve pressure on A&E, is an excellent one with a smaller number of patients being attended to in what appears to be a small hospital ward. There was comfortable seating available and tea, coffee, biscuits and even sandwiches were offered to those waiting; a very comforting gesture. Patients are treated in a calm manner without the hustle and bustle of a&e There is still of course long waiting periods but when it became clear (around 17:00 hours) that there would be quite a long wait for the scan, it was suggested that it would be preferable (for her) to return the next morning and so avoiding waiting into the evening; very thoughtful of the doctor. The next morning, the scan was carried out and after a further wait of two hours during which the doctor reviewed the results, she was reassured that 'nothing was found to cause alarm', the 'all clear' was given and she was discharged. The care and treatment cannot be faulted and whole concept is to be recommended and applauded.

Thank you so much for your feedback for our Same Day Emergency Care Service. Attending hospital for investigations can be an anxious time, but I am glad that we could make you feel comfortable and cared for during your investigations. We are working hard to try and stream patients appropriately from the emergency department and hopefully improve their patient journey. We are glad that this worked well for you even despite the waiting times! The fact you took the time to feedback is really appreciated and I will make sure to share it with the team. They will be thrilled they were able to make a positive impact on your hospital experience. I hope your wife is feeling well and wish you both all the best for the coming year.

  5. Review titled Excellence in troubled times

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Francis Clifford - Posted on 17 January 2023

Unfortunately I had a few concerns after pacemaker implant. I was delivered to A&E via ambulance - very professional and kind crew, and placed into the care of a truly professional and dynamic team. All staff in A&E who took part in my care treated me with respect and professionalism. All aspects of care where explained to me clearly, I was reassured and my concerns were dealt with excellently. From start to finish, despite obvious pressures in the department, my care was delivered with a truly professional and kind team. Well done to you all!

  6. Review titled Excellent treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jackie - Posted on 23 January 2023

At the end of December I fell and opened the wound on my knee from a previous knee replacement operation, so had to attend A& E, something I would have hoped not to need to do in such difficult times for the NHS. The treatment I received was second to none from all staff in A&E, despite how busy they were, and subsequently from the nursing, anaesthesia, orthaepadic and theatre teams and the wonderful orthopaedic consultant who dealt with my wound. I would also like to thank the lovely staff in recovery, dispensary staff, the catering staff for great food and the helpful reception staff in Jubilee ward. Everyone I met during my time there was so kind, caring, cheerful and patient. I couldn't have wished for better care from everyone I met and I am so grateful to everyone involved.

  7. Review titled Great care from a busy team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Hazel - Posted on 19 November 2022

Thank you so much to everyone in A&E last week who helped me when I was suffering from acute pain caused by kidney stones. I know how overstretched you all are but you still managed to give excellent care and very good management decisions throughout. The nurses and doctors were all so helpful and despite the pressure you are clearly under, you have a smile on your faces and carry out your jobs with such care. Thank you so much to everyone

  8. Review titled Brilliant care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Allan - Posted on 31 August 2022

Very grateful for the brilliant care and support we received after my wife had injured her head and face on fainting. Ambulance crew, nurses, doctor and support staff all engaged with cheerful kindness and good humour while treating injuries and potential medical conditions thoroughly, with great skill. So cheerful, so calm - even a cheerful goodbye at changeover time. Thank you!

  9. Review titled Poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jill Thorne - Posted on 03 August 2022

The triage nurse on A&E was brilliant. ECG done and bloods taken within 30 mins of arrival. Waited for the blood test results (I had a heart attack 4 weeks ago) and waited and waited! Eventually seen by a Dr who decided to take blood tests again, to test for the same protein levels they already had results from the first blood tests. Should be another hour for results. I eventually asked the triage nurse re the results. She chased them up and was given permission from the Dr to let me know the results and allow me to leave if all ok. She did this. She was truly efficient clearly knew how to use the Epic system. The department is in crisis very inefficient and procedure/process driven. The procedures/processes probably need reviewing.

Thank you for taking your time to provide us with your feedback. We appreciate all feedback whether it is positive or negative as it provides us with an opportunity to reflect and learn from patient's experiences. I am glad to hear that the triage nurse was brilliant on the day you attended and I am sorry to hear about the negative aspects of your care. Care Opinion does not provide us with patient information in order for us to look into your care and treatment when you attended. The department however is more than happy to look into your concerns further if you would like us to. Please contact me on e-mail sophie.grills@nhs.net and I will be happy to arrange for a member of the clinical team to look into your care and treatment further. I hope you are well, and look forward to hearing from you soon Kind regards Sophie Grills
