  1. Review titled Unwelcoming and deplorable service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2023

Today I had a gynaecology outpatient appointment at Rake Lane Hospital sent there by m6 GP practice as I'm very anxious about the test I require and my GP thought this would be the best place to go. There was no enclosed map or directions to help find it and it is a very hidden away department. I asked volunteers and medical staff for directions and eventually someone took me to the right place. On arrival the receptionist was unwelcoming, the waiting room is small and dirty, clumps of black hair lying on the floor. The whiteboard detailing clinical staff in attendance contained yesterdays details. I was told there would be a 45 minute delay. After 50 minutes the Receptionist put on her coat and went home with no update given to everyone sitting waiting in this cramped space. Other patients who arrived after me came and went. After waiting more than one hour I went to look for a member of staff, found a physiotherapist who was helpful and sought a Gynaecology department staff member who I told I could wait no longer and was leaving. A poor experience which did nothing to help my anxieties, I feel there was a lack of care or understanding for patients today. Communication is vital in any organisation and patients appreciate whiteboards being kept up to date with information and to know who is in attendance. A more welcoming atmosphere too.

  2. Review titled Too cautious...

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Susan - Posted on 16 October 2023

I went to have a cut looked at, because I thought it was infected. They looked at the cut and agreed it was infected. They could have dressed it and given me antibiotics and sent me in my way. However, they thought it needed to be looked at by plastics at Cramlington Hospital. I asked if I could go to ambulatory care in the morning, but no, I had to go now. I arrived at A&E, and after 6 hours saw a plastics consultant. He agreed it was infected, gave me antibiotics, redressed the wound, and sent me on my way. At 4am! So if Rake Lane had given me antibiotics I could have been home by 10, getting much needed rest, as it is I wasted my time and that of the Nhs, and didn't get home until after 4.30am. The nurses were lovely at Rake Lane, but a bit too cautious on this, and many other occasions, instead of treating something simple sending me off to wait at Cramlington for hours. Turning Rake Lane into an appointment only urgent care centre was supposed to ease the pressure on Cramlington, not increase it. I just wish they could treat me, and not refer me on.

Just wanted to thank all the staff in the Respiratory Clinic, they were all very kind & helpful. Although we were there for over 2 hrs, we were treated with upmost dedication. They were very busy, but still treated us so well.

  5. Review titled Tongue tie clinic attendance

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by L Zetu - Posted on 07 July 2023

We were offered a same day cancellation appointment with the tongue tie clinic, which was being held on the children’s ward at North Tyneside Hospital. From beginning to end the team were friendly, professional and caring to both me and my newborn daughter. They provided a private room for breastfeeding, did my daughters initial assessment promptly and then had the nurse practitioner review the findings and offer a same day dissection of the now confirmed tongue tie. The nurse practitioner was kind, caring and very informative about the procedure, it’s benefits and the risks. I felt my daughter was in very safe, capable and experienced hands so consented to the procedure. My daughters tongue tie was corrected and immediately feeding felt better. Just wanted to say what a brilliant service we were given and thanks to the team we’ve already seen a positive impact on our breastfeeding journey. Thank you tongue tie team!

  6. Review titled Children's Outpatients (Bloods)

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Allan - Posted on 19 July 2023

I am astounded that the nurse and healthcare assistant in children's outpatients were able to get bloods from my child this morning. They were amazing and so lovely and calm. I did end up getting tears in my eyes during the procedure as I was so proud and relieved that they put my child at ease and made him feel comfortable. As a parent of a child with complex needs, it's the small wins that mean the world and I could not thank them enough. I'm still in shock that they were successful. Just amazing and pretty much phenomenal at their job and both a credit to Northumbria Trust.

  9. Review titled Amazing Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nicholas Flynn - Posted on 23 May 2023

I just had my first-ever surgery today for my hernia, so I was very much feeling the anxiety, and I just have to say, all of the staff at North Tyneside Hospital were just amazing from start to finish. Nothing but love for the NHS. You made the whole process absolutely wonderful and made me feel at ease the whole way. I spent the best part of the day there, and I felt in capable hands throughout the whole process. I was clearly starting to get anxious lay down on the operating table, and the staff member who had been talking me through everything just smiled at me, took my hand, gave it a light squeeze and told me it was all going to be okay. I honestly could have cried. It was just such a simple, kind gesture that completely eased my anxiety and made me feel safe. Also, a massive shout out to the volunteers who took me to and from the hospital. Astounded by the kindness of these people going out of their way to help out people like me who couldn't otherwise get to and from the hospital. I hope you all know how much the work you do means to people and that the little gestures of kindness you do for us stick with us - even if we are too stressed at the time to show our appreciation fully. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you all.

  10. Review titled Staff

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I am a child and I went here for an ecg today. As I was walking down the corridor with my assigned nurse, she or her partner didn’t say hello. There were two nurses in the room and they didn’t even talk to me. To me this seemed quite rude as I was a patient entering this hospital. As well as this, when I entered the hospital, the only people giving us directions to our room thing was the cleaners as there was no one else.
