Review titled Parking
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alex Wood - Posted on 20 February 2023
I noticed a review about parking. It can be a nightmare at a stressful time and I note that warden are on the prowl. The large car park is a particularly bad spot with cars crawling round, stopping, reversing etc. The hospital has clearly shown its concern about ensuring that users pay for their parking - it would be good if they showed the same amount of concern about parking. A 'Car park full' sign could be helpful as could someone to 'mark' the odd vacant space at peak times.

Review titled My honest assessment
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Diane Walker - Posted on 31 January 2023
I understand that the hospital is under great pressure but unfortunately I felt disappointed with some of my experiences. I would say 95% of the nursing staff were caring and supportive but not the other 5%. I was at times feeling I was a nuisance and at times totally ignored. Because I had two broken arms I felt particularly venerable because staff attitude didn’t help

Review titled So sad
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 31 December 2022
The Emergency department needs urgent funding and organisation. We visited yesterday, the place is dilapidated, packed and has poor ventilation. It’s a breeding ground for spreading disease. Carers must wait outside in a tent. How can we help? It’s so sad to see elderly patients alone and suffering while they wait to be seen. One patient had an open bleeding wound, but the staff had very little basic first aid equipment. Who is in charge? How can this happen?

Review titled Very disappointed this time.
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Helal - Posted on 29 December 2022
I do not like to say this as I understand the NHS is under pressure, and many of the staff are genuinely making a great effort. However today was extremely disappointing. A few weeks ago I had a pain in the left side of my head and my vision had deteriorated in my left eye. My GP said I need to go to A&E which I did. The doctor said it was sinusitis, and ruled out a CT scan saying it can cause cancer. I took the 3 different medications prescribed. It's been 2 weeks today, it hasn't made it any better. The pain is still there and I feel dizzy regularly. Had another GP appointment this morning and the gp told go back to A&E for a scan. Went back to A&E and told them that the gp told me to come. A doctor there started asking me 'Why did they tell you to come here for eye vision reduction, you need to see your gp'. I clearly said that I was actually here for head pain. I explained a number of times that it's the gp who has told me to come here, but the doctor wasn't having it, and told me to take paracetamol. I understand that they may have to prioritise at busy times, but what more can I do other than follow my GP's orders? Sorry but extremely disappointed at the way I was turned away.

Review titled A real display of human kindness
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 December 2022
I recently spent the early hours of a busy Saturday night in the Fit Stop within A & E in Northampton General Hospital with a family member who had been admitted. From the first call from the department the staff were friendly, informative and reassuring. Being within the department I witnessed the best of human nature. Staff were kind, caring, non-judgemental and compassionate to absolutely everyone who came into their care. Watching and listening to them work was touching. Each and every one of them is an absolute credit to the hospital sand the NHS.

Review titled Rude reception
Rated 2 stars out of 5

This evening we went to AE to be virtually ignored by staff, one staff member finally acknowledged we was there. My partner had burnt his hand so just incase he needed anything I went with him. The lady that eventually noticed we was there then said that he needed to book himself at reception, we did say that 111 had booked us in a emergency department to be told that they cannot do this as they cannot get on our system. when we both then went to go to book in at reception the woman that never spoke once then shouted out through her window only he can go in, when I asked her to calm down as the way she spoke was totally unacceptable to which I did responde for her to calm down, the lady that initially spoke with us then said only the patient can go in. Firstly they both see us standing together at the window they should had said this then not when we both walked away. Some. People should not be be working in the public domain, and especially when working with patients with injuries. She sounded more like a prison officer very very rude.

Review titled Fantastic care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alan Butler - Posted on 08 December 2022
I was admitted for day surgery in the orthopaedic theatre. The surgery went very well thanks to the expert care and attention of the whole team. Whilst waiting for surgery I was admitted to Compton Ward where I stayed overnight and was discharged the day after surgery. Again I couldn’t fault the staff on this ward. The care I received was outstanding - all the staff were attentive, caring and respectful. The only negative comment is how difficult I found it to leave this feedback! I think it’s so important to give positive feedback when it’s justified particularly at the present time when there’s so much negativity around the NHS. I am very grateful for the care I received so thank you everyone at the NHS.

Review titled Awful Experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 November 2022
On Friday I attended the eye causality at NGH (but that’s a whole other story) in the following hours of Friday evening my condition worsened. I could no longer open my eyes and when I could pry them open slightly I could hardly see. 111 said I needed to attend A&E so I did just that. I was triaged quickly but then left sitting on a hard plastic chair in the waiting room for hours. I could not see and when asking the staff for assistance to consultations I was met with adversity. The whole team was uncaring, overworked and quite clearly stressed to their limits. I have a generalised anxiety disorder and the whole ordeal has caused me to feel traumatised and has triggered my problems with my mental health. The consultant who saw me seemed like she had no idea what she was doing and hadn’t a care in the world about my condition I had to request that she stopped interrupting me so that she could hear what my problem was. Reluctantly, she obliged. She kept coming back with half thought through solutions and it appeared as though she was blaming me for forgetting to bring one of the treatments for my eyes (I think I did well bringing 2 of the 3 considering I couldn’t see). Eventually they decided to flush my eyes with saline which was excruciating and consulted an on call eye doctor. Another consultant came and looked at my eye and said ‘no wonder they’re in pain they have an 8mm abrasion on their eye’ In the end all they did was give an anaesthetic that lasted 20 minutes, patched up my eye and told me to return to eye causality the next day. I hope I never in my life have to attend this A&E again. It is dirty, the staff have lost all love of their job and treat patients in a disgraceful manner. It is disappointing to see that this is the state of our NHS, I have never seen anything like it in my life.

Review titled Very caring team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Stuart Samuel Bamford - Posted on 14 December 2022
I had to attend the day surgery unit / general surgery in area K at Northampton General Hospital and welcomed by the the receptionist. I was a bit anxious but the receptionist explained to me in a very caring and professional manner of how I will be assessed and a few small questions and tests etc that the team will carry out, this had now put myself much more at ease knowing a little more about the procedures. Once in a room the team continued to be very caring and explaining everything that I needed to know and would answer any questions that I might like to ask and this continued with every person of the team from the very first member taking my blood pressure to the Doctor who would be carrying out my operation. The operation went well and when waking in the recovery ward the recovery team also showed a very caring and professional manner of making sure I was comfortable and a lovely cup of tea made for me. Once it was time for me to be picked up (of which they contacted the person collecting me) the original receptionist was once again there to help me from the recovery department to where I would be picked up. All in all I cannot thank this whole team enough to the attention, kindness and support that they gave me....Thank you all.
