  1. Review titled Receptionist with attitude

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Polite Chap - Posted on 18 July 2022

One of the female receptionists in the ECG department would benefit from an intensive course in Customer Service practices followed by 5 years at Charm School. She then might be fit to do the job if it is not already too late. The medical staff that dealt with me did their job without fuss and in an efficient manner.

My Mum had broken her wrist & the staff were amazing, we had to wait longer as ambulance patients were being treated which is unstandable, but a nurse came to apologise for the wait, clinical & non clinical staff were lovely, I work in the NHS & the way the staff presented themselves made me proud to work for the health service, thank you.

  4. Review titled Heart surgery

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Nigel Kelly - Posted on 07 January 2023

Having developed a leaking mitral valve over a number of years, I finally decided it was time to consider surgery. After discussions with my cardiologist I was referred to a specialist surgeon to be considered for port access surgery. This was carried out in July and I was discharged from Northern General after a total of five days. Having quickly recovered I soon returned to my normal life which includes regular exercise and walking a number of miles per week. In view of my experience I would like to place on record my appreciation of all the staff involved. In addition to my cardiologist and surgeon I would like to thank the anaesthetist and the other theatre staff as well as the cardiac nurses, physiotherapist and others who all took very good care of me. The fact that I am now seventy nine years old just shows that modern medical procedures can be advantageous to people of all ages.

  5. Review titled Rude ECG service

    by cafewk79 - Posted on 29 June 2022

I've had several ECGs over the last few months in hospital when I've had palpitations. I found the person who did them really rude. They asked why I had come in and I said I had palpitations and a fast pulse. They asked why I thought that and I responded because I feel that way. They asked if I had palpitations now? I touched my chest and they laughed and said that I did not need to feel my chest. My ECG came back with sinus tachycardia

Just like to say a big thank you to the surgeons and their team along with all the nurses on Chesterman department 4, E ward for the care shown to me during my recent surgery followed by a 10 day stay, the whole experience was excellent from the pain management to the care and consideration shown to me during my time recovering, without exception you were truly professional in every aspect of my care. 9. Review titled My mother’s care in hospital after a cerebral haemorrhage / stoke

by Gracejoy - Posted on 16 March 2022

My mother, aged 92, had a cerebral haemorrhage and stroke and after visiting the A/E Department at Northern General, she was admitted to HASU on L2 at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital , then moved to the Stroke Unit on Q2 .She died there 10 days later . From the start I was able to be with her all the time and the nursing and medical staff kept me informed and explained very gently what had happened and what was likely to happen next . On Q2, every member of staff - nursing, medical, domestic , healthcare support, therapists - they were all very kind and thoughtful with us both , even though they were under immense pressures .They also allowed both my daughters , who travelled from Bristol and Hastings , to see Mum and made them very welcome .I felt I could trust the staff to care for her and this allowed me to concentrate on her , to say the things we’d never said and have a lot of laughs .I cannot begin to tell them how much difference this has made to me and our family .

  10. Review titled Good care at A&E

    by Andtt96 - Posted on 11 March 2022

I recently had a ball fall while climbing and injured my knee, being unable to walk and in quite a lot of pain. After being driven to A&E I was put in a wheelchair and signed in by a very friendly member of staff and then after a short wait of only about 45 minutes I was looked at in minor injuries. The nurse was kind and caring, as well as thorough and helpful. I was then taken through to radiology for an X-Ray, where the radiologist was professional and pleasant, and then taken back through to minor injuries where I was given crutches and referrals to the physio and knee clinic. The only thing I would say is that the staff member who took me back to the A&E waiting room put me at the back of the room behind a lot of people, and as the wheelchair required pushing by someone else, I was a bit stuck and unable to go to the front and ask if I was going to get seen again as that hadn't been quite clear to me. It would be good if I could have been put closer at the front (and anyone else struggling to walk) and then I could have maybe asked the receptionist, when I first arrived they specifically put me at the front to make it a bit easier to get me back into minor injuries as well. As it happens I was not waiting for long and all the care from staff was excellent.
