Review titled Amazing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Margaret redmond - Posted on 21 April 2023
I was sent to A&E by my GP for abdominal pain ? gastric bleed. I will never forget the kindness I received in this department. The staff reassured me, supported me and looked after me with absolute dedication. We are so very lucky to have such an amazing hospital to go to in times of crisis.

Review titled Poor Reception.
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Mrs Rhonda Kennedy - Posted on 10 April 2023
On Thursday,30/03/23, my 18-year-old son started to complain of extreme pain in his head. His temperature was very erratic; I was very concerned about the way he presented so I rang 111. A very understanding member of staff asked appropriate questions and recommended that he attend A/E at Cramlington. We arrived at approximately 2.30 a.m.(Friday, 31/03/2023.) The receptionist treated us very professionally: she was very helpful and advised us of the 6-7 hour wait. We took a seat. After approximately 2 hours, my son’s symptoms dissipated and he told me that he did not want to waste the doctor’s time. We decided to fill in a discharge form. Unfortunately, that evening (Friday, 31/03/23 approximately 21.30) my son, once again, complained of excruciating pain in his head. This time I took him to another service provider. A lovely nurse assessed him: his blood pressure was 165/95, he was clammy to the touch, shaking and very pale. She gave us a consultation information form and advised we attend A/E at Cramlington. I believe we arrived at Cramlington at about 23.00. The same receptionist was on duty and she was sitting alongside a nurse. As I approached I felt as though a discussion had taken place between them. I got the distinct impression I was being ignored. Eventually, the receptionist asked if she could help? I explained that I had been in earlier with my son who had the same symptoms. Both the receptionist and the nurse’s attitude was bordering on hostile. The nurse questioned why I had only waited 2 hours on my previous visit ? They were extremely snappy when explaining the 3 hour wait to see a triage nurse followed by a further 6 hour wait to see a doctor. I don’t feel as though I should, in light of the fact my son , who has autism, and was in a great pain, justify my actions on my previous visit. Normally, I can’t praise the NHS enough - dealing with demanding patients in difficult circumstances. I, on both of my visits, was polite and courteous and I would expect the same in return. I was a very concerned mother trying to do the best by her son. I feel very let down by these member’s of staff.

Review titled Amazing people - Every time

I cant thank your hospital staff enough, I have been poorly and have been in your Hospital on many occasions over last few months, Ambulatory Care, gynaecology all day showed me concern not just for my ailments (Early Jan 2023j, above and beyond. Yesterday very hard day for me, procedure ward …. from first thing in the morning before I even got in the door, looked after the way, you’d be looked after by family…. Last but not least my porter, exactly who you want to lift your spirits, even taking me back to ward he was monitoring how I was, I had nt realised. I heard him explaining how I was and that he thought I needed some pain relief. I have been to four hospitals in last few months, across trusts, no one taking ownership of my care, Cramlington kept putting a huge plaster on until I received the care I needed. People who work in Cramlington Hospital, second to none. Thank you so much !!!

Review titled Everyone made me feel at ease
by Stokes17 - Posted on 13 February 2023
Just visited day surgery unit (ward 15), my first surgery. I was nervous. It was well organised from the waiting room, to be shown to beds, to all personnel I interacted with. Everyone made me feel at ease and were just dead canny. All staff I interacted with were just open and lovely to talk with while being efficient and professional, my nurses, surgeon, anaesthetist, student nurses, stats checkers just everyone. Honestly, thank you so much for all your work and the manner in which you deliver your work is just commendable.

Review titled Felt so unsafe in this hospital.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 February 2024
Rude staff. Staff speaking about patients in a derogatory and judgmental way. Left in hospital corridor for hours ,outside the room of a patient who was shouting and shouting for a nurse. I heard conversations about patients that I shouldn’t have heard. I was left without a drink for hours. Left without pain relief for hours. Waited 2 hours for a commode. Left without medication that was prescribed- but not given. Didn’t feel safe in hospital. Not given the care I needed. Told a member of staff I wanted to discharge myself. Was told that he wanted me to stay. I was transferred to a ward. Was on the corridor for an hour and a half. My spouse asked for a nurse to come and see me. She refused. So my spouse took me home. Never ever been in hospital before where the care was so poor, so much so I discharged myself. I genuinely felt frightened to be there.

Dear patient, Firstly, we hope you have managed to seek the care you need. Secondly, we are deeply saddened to read your review, your words do not reflect the experience we would want any of our patients to feel whilst in our care. Please be assured there are several options available to you in order to investigate what happened. In the first instance it would be really helpful for us to know which ward/departments you are referring to within The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. Please could you email us at patient.experience@nhct.nhs.uk with this information and we will be able to respond with guidance on your options going forward. We will look out for your email. Review titled Poor gynaecology
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Emma - Posted on 12 January 2023
I Visited here early hours of this morning as I am early pregnant and experienced some pain a&e are absolutely great however the doctor told me the bloods are ok for the stage I am at then I was happy with the response so I went home then was told to ring emergency gynaecology this morning for an appointment I called them to arrange the lady said “we don’t even have a referral for u” then said my pregnancy levels are low and they refused to see me after being told I was aloud an appointment and she said she would call me back after nurses handover and I am still waiting for the call back I am not really happy with the service what I have been provided as the lady was quite rude from gynaecology and it is very distressing as it is being told one minute that everything looks fine then the next it’s not okay I just think the communication should be better I have been pregnant before and miscarriaged this is why I went to get checked!!

Review titled Very fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking team
by SeaMum - Posted on 13 January 2023
I've unexpectedly ended up in paediatric A&E at NSECH twice this week with two different children. The attention and care we received was absolutely brilliant. Everyone from the HCAs, nurses, student doctors and doctors have been so thoughtful, attentive and reassuring. Sometimes as a parent you doubt yourself when making decisions about seeking medical help, especially when services are so overrun. To be welcomed with such a warm response and then given such a thorough investigation about the illness/injury has left me feeling more confident about seeking help and about my decision making. NSECH and the local community are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking team in paediatrics.
