Review titled Diabolical parking and two outpatient appointments
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 28 March 2025
I had the unfortunate experience of attending an outpatient appointment not once but twice within a matter of weeks. Firstly, I must comment on the appalling example of a carpark. A lack of spaces and the disabled areas were unmanned and everyone and their dog were parking there, an amount without badges. On both occasions where I had appointments in the general outpatients area they were both running late. Mostly what one would expect in these times so not too much of an issue. My first appointment seem to run smoothly but the second it seem to be run by staff who did not know what they were doing. A lack of common sense and courtesy from when they got me from the waiting area. They called my name and then the room where they needed to take my height and weight, it was busy and they took me to another and that was busy too. They should check prior to collecting if it was free as had to stand waiting and my legs were not willing. I tried to make small conversation with the nurse but she wasn't at all interested and when I asked her how long she had worked here she was rude and said it is none of my business. I maybe thought if she was new she didn't yet have the natural skills of care so could be forgiven for a lack of common talk. She was more interested in checking her mobile phone. Saw the Dr pretty much on time and the gentleman was a delight and very old school. He explained things clearly and put my mind at ease explaining what would happen next.

Review titled 'Requires improvement'

I was very happy to have been seen on a Rapid Access Clinic pathway. On the day of the assessment I was seen by a Consultant, she explained nothing! The Health Care Assistant explained what would happen next, she could see that the Doctor had not explained at all (this is well beyond her pay grade- but thankfully she took it upon herself to do this). The mammography was uncomfortable- that is how they are, but the radiographer was so unwelcoming, quite plainly I was putting her out. The sonographer was very reassuring and informative- explaining what he had seen on the scan- explaining that the mammogram was normal on initial reporting. Then it was back to the consultant- who issued me with a prescription, the Health Care Assistant explained I would need to return for a follow up. On return one month later- parking was a nightmare. I was seen very promptly by a different breast surgeon. He did not explain very much either! I had to enquire about the overall results of the investigations, but was brushed off by his answer. I know that medical professionals have the power to be effective communicators- why can they not use that skill. I am a service user- I want to be an active participant- what is hard about this. I expect to be treated as a full human being not merely a pair of breasts. I hope that I don't need to attend this clinic again, I've already made my mind up- off to Cambridge for me!

Review titled Wonderful thorough professional care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jane S - Posted on 19 February 2025
I attended a 4.30 pmGP apt through 111. Once triaged I had to wait for MAU . Saw a brilliant doctor who was so kind and reassuring . Completed thorough bloods and heart check etc . I was home within 4 hours . Yes it was busy and I applaud the staff working in such over required unit given the size now of our city . Despite this my doctor remained calm and detailed throughout my visit and for this I am so sincerely grateful.

I have been sent to hospital 3 times this year for high blood pressure. 185/113,153/110,166/104. As a stroke victim I was told these readings are not high. My go surgery were not happy, neither am I. 185/113 not high blood pressure for a stroke victim, really!!. I’m now at the point I don’t want to go back. Anyone any explanation for this

Review titled Great care from A&E staff
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Dawn - Posted on 20 February 2025
I attended A&E after a fall - although I was there for a long time the doctor who saw me was thorough and made sure that I had a number of tests involving different departments to ensure that everything had been diagnosed. I felt very cared for, and she made sure I had something to eat and drink when I had to wait a long time for a member of another team. The only downsides were 1) the A&E waiting area is very cold and 2) for the last hour while waiting for the end of a clinic so that an eye specialist could look at me I was moved to a different part of the hospital and told I may be admitted but with no information about why. I asked the nurse there to chase the eye specialist which she did but if I hadn't done so I am not sure what would have happened. Thank you to the A&E team and particularly the doctor who saw me.

I attended the Respiratory Medicine today and was so happy with my appointment. The doctor was lovely and explained exactly what was going on with my health. She was so caring and answered all my questions. I cannot recommend this department enough. Fantastic.

Despite it being an unpleasant procedure, the care and professionalism shown by your staff was amazing. From the telephone consultation a week before the consultation to the staff who dealt with me on the day. Thank you to all who made the visit calm, and without drama. It is appreciated

Review titled People care and concern

I had a reference send to me and had an appointment made at the imagery department. At that time I inquired if there is anybody at the entrance to help me get my wheelchair out of the rear of my suv. I was told there must be someone . I have my right leg amputated and cannot do this. When I arrived and parked in the handicap area some one kindly help by taking the wheelchair out. It is a unique unit and weighs only 55 pounds. Once in the hospital unit the techs, nurses, and doctor were great. I then proceeded to the main floor and asked the security guard if could help me by putting the chair in the rear of my suv. He said no. I went to the help desk and they said they are volunteers and not allowed to help or go outside. They tried to find someone to no avail. I had to chase down someone leaving and I was fortunate to find a person to help. I have been to several hospitals and they all had people available to help patients. I cannot believe this place ignores the needs of patients. Very sad state of affairs. Bob.

Review titled Ward A8 and general outpatients appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 January 2025
I am a carer for a relative who have had the unfortunate experience of staff on ward A8 where was admitted and had a short stay. I would not recommend this ward. Right from the start the staff placed him in a bed n the corridor where he was ignored, no privacy or care given. Once in a bay when I came to visit the staff on shift were rude, dismissive and short, more interested in talking about their ward manager and how they feel they can't approach to talk with her as she shuts them down and creates an unhealthy place to work. This was effecting patient care. I thought it was just this ward but when we have been to an outpatient appointment for something completely different staff there looked miserable too. The ladies in the blood room were lovely but the lady with a scarf covering her head looked as though she didn't want to be there, shouted his name and was abrupt. Not a good reflection on the department. Sort yourself out both A8 and outpatients. No wonder we are feeling disillusioned about the care we receive when faced with this. We all have bad days but clearly a hospital issue that goes higher up if both areas have issues.

Review titled Car park
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Julia Hudson - Posted on 21 November 2024
Had an appointment at 11.20 today, arrived at 10.35 to give plenty of time to park. Left at 11.10 after driving, queuing with so many other cars in all of your car parks. Called to advise won't be attending as hate to let people down. I had been told that appointment was very important to attend re infection post op but if you can't park all bets are off. What a joke
