  1. Review titled Treated with respect and dignity

by Shoeshandbags - Posted on 06 April 2023

My Mum who is in her eighties had a appointment on ward 1B. She was treated with respect and dignity asked her questions and let her answer in her own time. Lovely staff and very caring. The staff members were lovely ladies.

  2. Review titled My recent experience and hospital admission

    by Stuart8745 - Posted on 05 April 2023

I feel I was very distressed.  I had to wait approx 11 hours in A&E, which was rammed full of patients. I was finally admitted and was taken to an assessment ward. This ward was noisy, chaotic and was late at night so I got no rest. In the early hours I was moved to another ward, 8b Stroke Ward. This ward was also chaotic, loud which limited me any sleep or rest. During my 5 day admission, my Endoscopy procedure was delayed by more than a day because the Dept was closed. On the final day, the day of discharge, I was told at noon that I could leave but that Pharmacy would supply medication.  I asked whether I needed to wait because I already had said medication.  I was told this was different medication.  I waited more than 4 hours, regularly chasing up my discharge TTO's.  At 4.15 I chased up the medication again as I wanted to leave, but was told there was no medication for me other than what I already had. I was furious that I had been kept there more than 4 hours for something I already had.

Dear Stuart8745 I am very sorry to hear about your experience of being a patient recently at Pilgrim Hospital. As Matron for the Endoscopy unit I can only comment on where you mentioned your procedure was delayed by a day. I can let you know that this was due to closure of the unit due to an unforeseen incident and as patient safety is very important to us, the unit was closed. As you were an in-patient at the time I expect your Doctor and Nursing team felt that the procedure could wait to be done once the unit was reopened the following day. I am unable to comment on the other aspects of your stay in the hospital, however I am sure my colleagues will respond to you in due course. I hope that you are feeling better now and thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience, as we can use this to learn from Regards Cathy, Matron

  3. Review titled Good experience

    by Sas999 - Posted on 16 March 2023

After an admin mix up was addressed the ultrasound dept. slotted me in for a missed booking - friendly, professional and clean - then onto Women’s Health 1B who explained the procedure and reassured me about my current problems. Again, very professional. Also to the Sister on the ward working extra clinics as so many ladies waiting for appointments. I also work in the NHS so felt a credit to my profession.

  4. Review titled Shocked

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2023

After having used pilgrim for years this is the first time I've genuinely been shocked. My child was first seen in urgent care, was then booked into A&E and ED paediatrics and then the children's ward. It took 10 hours beginning to end but that was expected. His care although long was brilliant. But...A&E and how busy it was , was like nothing I'd seen before. There were nurses with tea trollies because the waits were crazy. People were hooked upto IV fluids in the waiting area. There were nurses hiding wheelchairs to ensure they had one to move people around because they just don't have enough. A&E patients were spilling out into all areas. Someone came out to apologise because it was a 4 hour wait for bloods and 5 hours to see a dr. I'm not surprised staff are leaving, it's not their fault.

  5. Review titled Atrocious hospital treatment

    by Maisie01 - Posted on 29 March 2023

Extremely unhappy with the service I received in my visit to Pilgrim Hospital on Friday. I was given a letter by my GP to attend SDEC. One staff member I found incredibly rude in SDEC. I could hear a conversation about me whilst in another room saying that I should not be admitted as I only had pain. This was not only unprofessional, but also extremely upsetting as and I could hear the derogatory conversation about me whilst in another room The main doctor went home, and I saw another doctor (I was the only patient left in the room). They had not read my notes prior to seeing me and performed an abdominal exam whilst I was sat in a chair! I was taken to a ward finally at 6:00pm and did not see a doctor again until 2:00 pm the next day (I did have a ultrasound at 10:30am the next day) however I was never kept informed about anything. When I saw the Doctor on the ward, they again performed an abdominal examination whilst I was sat up in the chair - how can you feel somebody’s abdomen correctly like that? They informed me that I could go home. When I explained that my pain was extremely bad in my abdomen and back, they just told me to take painkillers and had the audacity to roll their eyes at me. They told me to come back in 3 weeks when I have an outpatient appointment. I was made to feel as though I was wasting everybody's time. In my whole life I have only been in A&E once before and this time went due to 111 and GP advice. I am in constant pain which is impacting on my life and my treatment was atrocious.

  6. Review titled Outpatient visit to the breast unit

    by leatherdb69 - Posted on 14 March 2023

I received an exceptional experience at an anxious time but the staff at Pilgrim Hospital in the breast clinic were fantastic and so professional they explained every-step of the way the procedures which were to take place, the department was spotlessly clean yet inviting, a truly supportive team who were working very hard to help people at a very delicate time in their lives. I was overwhelmed at the staffs empathy and wanting to support me putting me at ease throughout my appointment.

  7. Review titled Long wait and no doctors

    by sagittasb83 - Posted on 09 March 2023

I was in A&E following self care for abdominal pain and losing large blood clots. I had been taking paracetamol for pain, seen my GP who prescribed cocodamol and had been bleeding worryingly heavy and bedridden for 4 days before ringing 111. When in A&E I had blood tests which showed high crp markers. I was given iv antibiotics and referred to gynae. No beds were available so I was sent home at 2:00 am to return next day. Returned at 8:00am and wasn't seen until 3:00pm. No pain relief, no repeat bloods, no scans, nothing in that time. I saw a doctor after 3:00 pm who offered paracetamol! They were concerned about pain and not the blood clots the size of my hand I had been struggling with for the last 5 days. Eventually I had ultrasound scan which I do not know results of but was advised I needed a ct scan. The doctor advised this at 4:30 but did not book it. At 7:00pm after chasing and becoming quite anxious I saw another Dr who sent me home with antibiotics. No one is sure it isn't my appendix but because I didn't see a surgeon in A&E I was under care of gynae solely. I had to chase why bloods hadn't been repeated, why observations hadn't been done. I was told it was protocol as nothing had changed so they hadn't rechecked but nothing had changed because nothing had been checked or done. I queried why I had been asked to come to the ward when they were obviously not equipped to see me. The nurses were not busy with patients, they spent hours and hours discussing the fluid and nutrition board. I appreciate there was no Dr so nothing could be done as such but why is there a ward with no Dr? They were all in emergency care but uncontactable. The doctor I saw at 3:00pm didn't seem to care what my situation was as they would have booked the scan and tried to gauge what my situation was that day rather than going by my notes from the previous evening in A&E I am still in constant pain and trying to manage at home and hoping for the hospitals sake my appendix does not rupture as this is complete lack of care.

  8. Review titled Uncaring

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mrs Karen Baker - Posted on 16 March 2023

My mother was admitted to A&E with severe chest pains. After sitting there waiting for 4 hours she asked when she would be seen and apparently she had been "missed" how can a hospital miss a potential attack patient ?? She was finally seen and blood tests were done which showed high Troponin levels which indicates a heart attack especially after 4 hours of waiting. She had a further blood test which showed they were lower but not back to normal, then they discharged her at 8pm as there wasn't any beds!!! She's still feeling very unwell but refuses to go back to hospital . The last time she went to A&E at the Pigrim the same thing happened no wonder they are still under special measures.

  9. Review titled Same day emergency care centre amazing!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jacqueline Holmes - Posted on 25 March 2023

I was sent to Sdec yesterday by my Gp,as I walked in I was greeted with friendly busy staff who showed me where to be, within minutes I had bloods taken and a friendly female doctor came and talked to me . She examined me, took a full history and told me of her plan for a DVT scan and an chest X-ray. I then got a much needed cup of tea! A care assistant took me for my scan ,then I went for my X-ray and back to Sdec All the staff from all departments were kind and caring. After a short wait the doctor returned with all my results ,explained everything to me .I had arrived at the hospital at 14.00 and at 16..30 I was on my way home with my medication, truly amazing. The efficiency of that department is the best I’ve ever seen, every member of staff was busy but still took the time to be patient and understanding when asked questions.I cannot think of enough words of praise so Thankyou to all concerned.

  10. Review titled I have received a 100% positive care package from day one

    by plusfh66 - Posted on 02 March 2023

I lost my son in March 2020, he took his life at 21. About a year later I started getting different bowel movements and I thought it might be IBS. Things got worse, and it got to the stage where I couldn't be far from a toilet. Contacted my GP in September 2021, and he ran some tests which ended with a camera up my rectum. They found a tumour in my rectum. Couldn’t believe it. But after losing my son, it didn’t faze me, and soon got my head around being positive. Treatment started January 2022. I had a temporary stoma fitted at Grantham hospital. End of March I had 5 weeks of Radio and Chemotherapy at Lincoln hospital. Then in the summer I had a further 12 weeks of Chemotherapy. It was a bit of a journey up to this point. But was positive throughout, which helped greatly. After a couple of MRI and CT scans, I was sent to Boston Royal infirmary to have the tumour removed in December 2022. The Consultants were very happy with the procedure. They told me there was no follow up treatment required. Just before Christmas I received a fantastic phone call telling me I was Cancer free. I am now in the middle of 12 weeks of Chemotherapy. I think they call it mopping up or belt and braces. I have received a 100% positive care package from day one. Everything I was told would happen. Did. And it happened on the date and time I was given. All staff that I have come into contact with, have been wonderful and caring. I carry on with my journey.
