  1. Review titled No patient care

Rated 1 star out of 5

Shocking experience in a & e arrived by ambulance with severe abdominal pain, the paramedics were great & administered paracetamol iv & morphine which didn’t make the pain disappear but took the edge off it, they wanted to top me up during the journey but advised it would be better not to as the a & e staff would be then able to administer more if I needed it as I had already had a cannula in my arm. After a couple of hours the pain was getting worse & worse so my daughter who had accompanied me asked staff many times if I could have a top up of pain relief, they were not very helpful & just kept saying how busy they were (which was obvious) I was basically given 2 paracetamol which I’d been taking for 3 weeks previously & explained how it didn’t touch the pain, was told that’s all I was going to get! So 10 hours sat in A&E is bad enough & I appreciate the staff shortage & could see they were very busy, I did not have a problem with waiting as that’s how things are unfortunately but to be left in excruciating pain for the whole time is just cruel! I hope to god I never have to go there again!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience of being in our Emergency Department. I am very sorry to hear of your negative experience and in particular the lack of pain relief. I can only imagine what an awful time it must have been for you to wait in pain and not receive appropriate pain relief. I have shared your feedback with the team as it is important we learn from our patient's experiences. If you would like us to look further into this for you, please do contact our PALS team on myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net. Thank you again and I hope you are recovering well. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  2. Review titled Total care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Brian Vasey - Posted on 10 January 2024

I wish to thank everyone on gateway 31 coronary care, for the reassurance compassion and treatment I received over the last few days and on previous visit. The passion each member of the team showed me I was in safe hand from the assistant nurses to the consultants who tried to explain to me every step of my operation and recovery, I wish I could thank each and every one of you individually but not possible due to shift changes. So again thank you all. If I had one moan it would be the time from being discharged to having to go to the far side of the hospital and wait almost three hours for a single prescription. The walk alone was quite a distance for someone just discharged from the heart department.

  4. Review titled A&E

Rated 4 stars out of 5

My father in law was taken to Pinderfields A&E by ambulance, after being found at home on the floor. The Ambulance crew was fabulous when they arrived, really caring and friendly. A massive thank you to the nurses who looked after him very well and the Doctor who took care of him. They are all working under extreme pressure with the amount of patients they are expected to see and treat on a daily basis, but remained polite and professional at all times. We were kept up to date with what was going on even though the department was bursting at the seems. Thank you to everyone in A&E you do an amazing job.

  7. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was referred to Pinderfields critical emergency services from Pontefract after I fell at home and had a head injury. Pinderfields were amazingly kind and caring. I was really scared as I hadn’t been to the drs for over 20 years. Unfortunately I discover I had high blood pressure and a heart condition I was shocked and scared the nurses were so kind I can’t thank them enough. They were brilliant kind, caring and supportive. I was seen quickly blood tests were done ecg and given a diagnosis and medication that day I got a scan appointment within 5 days I left feeling confident that I could trust Pinderfields to look after me. Great clean hospital caring nurses and drs thank you

  8. Review titled Absolutely amazing care and service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Robyn - Posted on 10 November 2023

After rupturing my achillies, I can honestly say that the care I have recieved by the orthopaedic and fracture clinic at pinderfields was fantastic!!! Each time I have visited, the specialist has been incredible; he was super calm and fully explained everything really clearly. He spent as much time as possible making sure everything I needed was done to a high standard and he took the time to explain why as well, which was super important for me. Not only was the specialist amazing, but the nursing staff were so friendly, had a little giggle with me and made me so comfortable. I have been multiple times during my recovery and I have never had to wait long for my appointments, often being seen before my allocated time if I was early or needed a follow up test etc. The hospital itself is so nice, open and clean with lots of areas for something to eat and drink, and I really love the fruit and veggie stall outside. I'm almost disappointed that my recovery has gone so well as I don't need to go back again! I really want to say a huge thank you to the department for making this time so much easier than it could have been, and they definitely deserve the recognition. I feel I've been in very good hands and I am really greatful for their hard work and amazing attitude to care. Thank you x

  9. Review titled Gate 43

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 November 2023

Reception staff have been amazing asked got answers pretty quickly. They are a credit to the ward. However some nurses were rude and abrupt when looking after my elderly mother and made not only myself but my mother very uncomfortable at times. The doctors etc are polite and respectful at all times. Communication needs to be improved in general between doctors and nurses staff as it caused a lot of confusion for my mother and myself especially when discharge to another ward to Dewsbury Hospital happened. I wouldn’t want any other patient to have to go through this. Overall much better experience than what we had in a and E a weekago.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and for your kind feedback regarding our reception staff on the ward. It is lovely to receive such kind comments which I have shared with the team. However, I am really sorry to read of how some of the nursing staff were not meeting the values and behaviours of the Trust. We do have clear values and behaviours that all staff should adhere to and I am so sorry that this was not your experience. I have shared your comments with the Ward Manager and the Matron. It is disappointing to read of the poor communication between staff and fully acknowledge how poor lines of communication can indeed make things confusing and for that I am sorry. I have shared your feedback with the team. Thank you again and I wish your mum a speedy recovery. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  10. Review titled Smelly and rude staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 November 2023

Daughter had ENT appointment. She is autistic and I speak for her. Doctor tried directly talking to her even though I told him she wouldn't speak to him. He was asking inappropriate questions and was rude and abrupt. Coming in and out of the hospital is disgusting. Despite no smoking signs, constant crowds of patients and even nurses smoking near doors. Inside the hospital stinks of smoke. No one is told to move on. Hospital is not very welcoming. Staff are miserable and talk to you in a rude way. Cold and depressing and glad I don't have to come again!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding both yours and your daughter's recent experience. I am so sorry to read of the events you have described which are definitely not what we would want anyone to experience when receiving care and treatment from our staff. We have clear values and behaviours that all of our staff should adhere to and I am sorry that the interaction you have described was not as positive as it should have been. I have shared your comments with the team so that they can share what a negative impact this has had on both yourself and your daughter. In terms of the smoking outside of the hospital, I completely understand your frustrations. We are doing everything we can possible to deter people from smoking in the area but it is a constant struggle. Our Head of Security is looking at alternative approaches to improve the situation and our security staff do everything they can do either move people on or to politely request they refrain from smoking. I have shared your email with the team looking into this and I am hoping we find a solution to this issue as soon as possible. Thank you again and I wish you both well.
