Review titled Excellent labour care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Tara Stubington - Posted on 09 September 2024
My midwifes (i cant name then apparently) were outstanding start to finish. On arrival they immediately put me at ease and let me continue with labour in a free way. They took the time to really read my birth preferences and encouraged me throughout. They understood my health anxiety and acted quickly by getting a consultant when my labour slowed to avoid me any un-necessary stress. My labour moved to theatre for a forceps delivery and throughout my midwifes explained what was going on, translated medical terms and made sure we had our phone ready for pictures. They supported me as i had my spinal and were just generally the most caring midwifes, they are an absolute credit to your hospital. We have memory's for life from the photos they took (they had great photo skills). They also made sure my husband was involved and took him to baby whilst the consultant continued to complete my surgery. During theatre the staff also acted quickly by testing my blood levels immediately and giving me a unit of blood without delay. Once on The high dependency unit they also retested me and gave me more again rather than waiting which is what happened to me in my previous labour experience. The staff in the high dependency unit after were also fantastic. They didn’t make a big deal of my health anxiety which can see an increase in Bp and Hr. The midwife on night duty with me was particularly kind and helpful keeping an eye and even taking baby for an hour so I could have a little sleep to recover. She also helped me up and just generally put me at ease. The staff the next day including the doctor could see my aim was to go home asap and they made that happen. You are all fantastic.

Review titled Amazing Staff!
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a hysteroscopy and minor procedure and the staff were all absolutely amazing. I’m disabled & they were helpful, kind and supportive. It was late at the end of what would’ve no doubt been a busy week for them & nothing was too much trouble. I felt genuinely cared for and listened to. I was nervous about the procedure but they all put me at ease & explained everything. They were absolutely brilliant & reassured me constantly. I cannot thank them enough.

Review titled Needs improvement

I am waiting several months for urgent appointment with consultant and it misses the point of what urgent means! But when you ask, there is nothing staff can do. The communications in the Gynae Assessment Unit need improving as I was told contradictory things recently and then left to go home still in pain with no guidance as to what to do to where to go next. And being amongst pregnant people when you have medical reasons for not being able to have children (and would be similar for those who've lost or are losing their baby) is just abhorrent. I was left in a waiting room in pain for hours between tests, made to do a pregnancy test when I cannot become pregnant and seen for gynae issues in a unit primarily seeing pregnant women. This is so wrong!

Review titled Excellent for a worried mother to be
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Nicola Beal - Posted on 11 March 2024
I was reviewed in the day assessment unit of maternity services by a student midwife and their colleague. They listened to my concerns and made me feel very at ease whilst they checked baby. I have had occasions where I’ve felt talked down to and like I didn’t know anything as a first time mother but these staff members were excellent and made me feel full relaxed and looked after. I barely had time to sit down before being called to be assessed. I was in and out within half an hour and had no waiting around which was fantastic when you are nervous.

I had an appointment at the Breast Imaging Unit just one week after seeing my GP. I arrived early and was seen shortly after. All the staff were kind, caring and efficient. Good to see the NHS does work well. Thank you to you all.

Review titled Unbelievable care & wonderful midwives
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had my son on the labour ward on one of the busiest birth nights they had seen and the care I received was exception. Not a straight forward labour, with an induction and 43 hr Premature Rupture of Membranes. We saw 3 shift changes and every single one of the midwives, from the induction bay to the labour ward were incredible. Thank you so much for doing the stressful job you do and while juggling loads of different constant demands on your time, taking the time to listen and really care for your patients. You are angels - thank you! A very organised chaos, I'm sure the unit is under strain but the quality of care is top notch!

I had an appointment at the breast imaging unit today. I just want to say how lovely all the staff were, especially the 2 consultants and nurses I saw. It has restored my faith in the NHS.

Review titled Efficiency and empathy in abundance
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Janet Cecil - Posted on 29 January 2024
I had a day surgery hysteroscopy and biopsies because of post menopausal bleeding. The procedure was attempted in outpatients at first but was too painful because of previous cervical surgery. From the sonography to the outpatient consultant and on 18 January, the medics and ward staff were very efficient and caring and couldn’t do enough for me. I threw a spanner in the works by testing positive for Covid in the day of surgery even though my test at home had been negative. Both the anaesthetist and the consultant took time to explain that a general anaesthetic was not an option but they were prepared to do the procedure using an epidural injection. I said that I would accept this if I could have some sedation which they agreed. I have been to the hospital in previous years for breast screening and have always been impressed with the efficiency and empathy of the staff. I have private medical insurance but because I was on the urgent list I opted to stick with the NHS. I’m so glad that I did. I vennthe sectetarial staff were extremely helpful when I raised a question today. Thanks to all the staff at Princess Anne Hospital. You are all stars.

Review titled Friendly Teams
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 August 2023
As the last review I made of this hospital was very negative, I decided in the interest of balance I should give this positive review. I was due to have a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic and both the preop assessment team and the day surgery team were excellent. All of them were friendly, caring and reassuring. I was so impressed with their professionalism and incredibly thoughtful attitude. I know they were short staffed but they didn't once let that show in their dealings with me. Even the surgeon came round before and after my procedure to explain everything. I have nothing but praise for all of them.

Review titled Unsympathetic, unsupportable team
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Had to have a scan and hysteroscopy due to post menopausal bleeding. None of the team from nurses to doctors were supportive or sympathetic. One of the procedures I found painful and yet not one of the staff gave me any encouragement. Other procedures I've had nurses have talked to me in a friendly way or held my hand to distract me. These nurses were uncaring and seemed almost rude. The people performing the scan were offhand, abrupt and unhelpful. They barely spoke to me and when I got upset seemed to ignore me. As if they wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible. Considering I may have cancer I felt this to be completely heartless and soul destroying. I appreciate they are run off their feet but one of two kind words go a long way. I now have to have further investigation and am dreading it.
