Review titled Great experience
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Amy - Posted on 26 July 2024
I went in for a day surgery. I was really nervous as I find medical procedures very stressful but all the staff were so kind to me. The nurses on Horsted Keynes ward looked after me really nicely, as did the HCAs who took me down and the anaesthetists who helped put me at ease. They chatted to me to take my mind off what was happening and one of the nurses even held my hand when I was being put under as I have a bit of a needle phobia. Thank you so much PRH staff for making the procedure go as smoothly as possible.

Review titled A&E Life saver
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Clive Garland - Posted on 17 May 2024
After being requested by the Urgent Treatment Centre in Lewes to present myself to A&E at the Princess Royal in Haywards Heath due to in their words my blood pressure being “off the scale” I duly arrived at around 10.45 am. After registering my personal details at reception, I was swiftly seen by a duty nurse who took my blood pressure several times to be sure of accurate readings. A long wait then pursued amounting to 8 hrs 45mins. Not ever being a frequent visitor to a hospital or thankfully the doctors over the years, I can honestly say I have the utmost admiration for all the variety of staff who attended to me during that time. Despite the obvious pressures they were all under I marvelled at the dedication and fastidious care I received, always informing me in meticulous detail what and why the various examinations were taking place. The day culminated in a CT scan of my head to rule out any further complications that my have arisen. As a service that is free at the point of entry, the NHS provided me with excellent highly knowledgeable doctors, ancillary staff and access to very specialised equipment. Despite their long hours aiding, supervising and monitoring a vast array of patients, all staff somehow remained courteous, friendly and jovial. I can only marvel at all their diligence and commitment to providing the correct healthcare for a multitude of ailments being presented over the almost 9 hours I observed of their day. Perhaps the only pitfall was the car park hourly fees, which I was appalled to hear that hospital staff have to pay on a daily basis out of pretty low standards of pay. How Doctors / Nurses face the pressure of duties that medical care requires on a daily basis is phenomenal and I can only applaud their constant struggle on the public’s behalf. Praise is clearly not enough, it was obvious to me that conditions need to improve, let alone the pay structures being woefully inadequate in your sector. I sincerely hope that a change of Government provides the resources that the present one has plundered and tried to let it slip into privatisation, a ruinous route for any public service. I would very much like to thank you all for setting me on a healthier path for the future.

Review titled Horrible pelvic exam
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 April 2024
I was told to go straight to A&E after seeing my gp as I had an extremely painful bartholin cyst that was bleeding everywhere and I could barely walk. After waiting over 6 hours I finally see the gynaecologist who, without any warning at all, shoved the specula inside me and prodded the cyst until I was almost in tears to which she commented 'oh does that hurt' (yes.. why else would I be here?) before continuing to apply pressure to it. Afterwards, I was covered in blood and just told to put my trousers back on. I understand that this exam was necessary and would cause discomfort, however I am only 18 years old and this was my first ever pelvic examination and I would have appreciated some warning of what was going to happen as I left feeling violated and shaken up. My mother was in the room and was also shocked that they gave no verbal warning as well. I am terrified of ever getting a pelvic examination again it was a horrible experience.

Review titled The NHS is finished
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Rob Semmence - Posted on 07 March 2024
This place is an utter disgrace to tax payers. A&E have a duty to see all patients within 4 hours. I was told there would be a 3 hour wait for a doctor. After 4 hours of waiting, I was told I was next. After 7.7(!) hours I left having not seen a doctor, no update, nothing. I was “next” for 3.5 hours. Not one single patient from the waiting room was called in that time. We are alone in this country. We pay our tax money but none of it is being spent on the NHS. If there was ever an incentive to look after your health, the state of the NHS is it. Beyond livid. Now I have to start the entire process again with my doctor. Oh, and they don’t share results, because the NHS isn’t actually a thing, the only relevant thing is which “trust” manages the hospital. This has got to be the worst idea I’ve ever heard in my entire life.

My operation and care on Ward 4 was excellent. Follow up appointments have also been very good. The only down side has been the parking. It`s an utter farce!

Review titled Fantastic, caring staff and facilities
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Kelly Kane - Posted on 18 January 2024
I cannot begin to describe the thanks I would like to give the gynaecology and early pregnancy team on their care and attention they have given me over the last 72 hours. They have truly all been so comforting during a very difficult time. I unfortunately experienced a missed miscarriage and then the full miscarriage itself and the whole team were there to check in on me, talk me through the process and show true comfort in a horrible situation. I want to share a particular thank you to the doctor who performed my speculum exam. I was extremely anxious following an exam I had the day before in a&e which was traumatic. The doctor was kind and gentle, and took their time to make sure I was comfortable with everything. The staff are very special and needed, and I hope the hospital can offer more staff like this to comfort women in need.

Review titled Urgent Care does not exist
Rated 1 star out of 5

I went after being told by 111 online to go the the neatest urgent care centre. I had to go into A&E and was told there was no such centre, despite it being online with the opening times.

Dear patient Thank you for your post and I am sorry to hear that you were given incorrect information about the nearest urgent care centre being at Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. At this time there is no urgent treatment centre at that hospital and I have shared below the link which is online for University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. https://www.uhsussex.nhs.uk/hospitals/minor-injuries/ This link shows all the minor injury units or urgent treatment centres in our area. I hope that you were seen in the A&E department and feeling better now. Jo Yearsley, Patient Engagement and Liaison Manager

Review titled Thank you to the endoscopy unit for their efficient care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 January 2024
I had an endoscopy here and from first contact to leaving the treatment was superb. The staff were timely and efficient. All introduced themselves and explained throughly what was happening and gave the opportunity to ask questions. The doctor was so kind and at all times I felt I was being given 100% care. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Review titled Great physio team

I attended a 6 week course to help with my arthritis. All the physiotherapists were so helpful, encouraging and understanding, never pushing you to do more than you felt able. I would like to express my thanks to them all.
