Review titled Exceptional care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sarah Kenny - Posted on 14 December 2023
I was extremely anxious about having a hysteroscopy and polyp removal. All the staff- nurses, nursing assistant, anaesthetists and surgeons - were kind, respectful and reassuring. I was kept informed about everything. One nurse sat with me and chatted throughout the procedure to distract me and help me stay calm. Such warm and caring treatment from everyone really helped me and made all the difference.

Attended Maxiofacial Dept and saw two excellent doctors. Didn't have to wait at all and the care I received was second to none. Thank you to all of you.

Review titled Poor

My dr sent me - 8 hour wait, said they had called me - when they absolutely had not (3 hours in and watching and waiting for my name up to then). 1.5 hr wait for blood test result was actually 3 hrs later. Left waiting in a room after some treatment - told registrar to return with results, another lengthy wait I left to query why? - Receptionist was surprised he did that so sent to nurses desk to discharge self. She sarcastically reminded me it is a busy department and he is with another patient. Told to return to room, went there, inches away - only to watch him look me in the eye and walk straight past me with another patient, into room I was left in, no explanation, so fearing another lengthy wait and feeling too tired to wait any longer - I left at 4.45 am without full results or tablets needed. NHS is failing. I wont bother with a big hoo har complaint to patient liason or whoever, nothing ever changes.

Review titled Poor organisation and facilities
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Bryan Taylor - Posted on 25 July 2023
Attended a and e as a result of no gp availability and advice from health clinic. Registration completed and seen by triage within 1 hour so that works fine. 4 hours later still waiting to see a doctor for treatment and diagnosis. Eventually gave up went home and paid for private treatment from Bupa. Nhs is not fit for purpose despite all the hype. Suggestions to make the wait more bearable at a and e in Princess Royal Haywards Heath. The waiting area is far too small to cope with demand so patients are spread out over 2 or 3 extra areas so staff are then running around trying to find patients and wasting time. Why don’t you use a tannoy system. There is literally no information at all about where an individual is in the queue you could be there for one hour or ten hours just one screen that shows how long it takes to see triage or a doctor however when does that start from ie when you registered or at the current moment in time. Use screens to show individuals wait times dependant on urgency and current demand. The ventilation in the dept is inadequate it’s hot and stuffy especially when patients are waiting 4 hours plus so sort out the sitcom. No vending machines only one cold water supplier shared by staff and patients.Improve facilities for both. Frequent unattended alarms sounding for hours seemingly for no reason and not switched off by staff causing alarm and noise distress. Patients vital signs being taken in the waiting area amongst the seating so lack of privacy for affected patients. Generally a third world experience for what is supposed to be the pride of Britain. If the idea is to discourage anyone going to a and e its a very successful tactic.

Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Deborah Havell - Posted on 28 June 2023
I have had chemo treatment twice this month here. The staff in reception and in the unit are fantastic and so caring including the volunteer from Macmillan. I am amazed at their wonderful attitudes to all patients and I thank them all so very very much. What could have been a distressing time is actually uplifting.

Review titled Outstanding care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Today I had to go to the early pregnancy unit after having a scare. The care I received from the staff was incredible. Even small things such as showing me where to hang my clothes, adjusting the temp of the room, providing a larger sheet, being directed to other resources to make me more comfortable without even having to ask put me more at ease. The consultant and nurse were warm kind and really put me at ease during a difficult time. I had good news today but even if I didn’t I felt like I was in excellent hands I can’t thank you enough, our wonderful NHS

Review titled First class

I went to the PRH the day following the doctor’s strike (16th March), so not brilliant timing. I had suffered what I thought was a GI bleed, something which had troubled me for 5 years whilst I lived in Birmingham. The bleeding then was problematic and I eventually had a distal gastrectomy a week or two before the Covid lockdown. Because of the pandemic, it’s probably not controversial to say that because of the multiple pressures on the NHS, the attention I received post surgery was sub-optimal. I was worried that things may have worsened post Covid but everyone at the PRH was a legend. From the chap who booked me in at reception to the porter who took me for an X Ray, the commitment, attitude, respect, and care was beyond my expectations and I was particularly appreciative of the prompt attention I received from both the A&E Registrar and the nurse who looked after me. Not only was I seen very quickly, I was grateful that the GI bleed was confirmed quickly from the result of the blood tests. The doctor at PRH subsequently spoke with the on-call gastro consultant at the Royal Sussex and I was transferred there by ambulance within a couple of hours of arriving at the PRH.

I have previously sent numerous emails regarding the hospital changing to a plant based one , this is in view of promoting a healthier cleaner lifestyle . The local councillors have taken the pledge to promote a vegan town in Haywards Heath, this is supposed to include hospitals too . Please advise if you have or are considering this ?

Review titled Wraparound care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Philip Norton - Posted on 28 March 2023
I went into the Sussex Orthopaedic treatment centre on 3rd March as a day patient to have my thumb joint replaced. I have previously had this operation on my other hand back in October of last year. From being admitted to discharge, I found every member of staff excellent at explaining everything to me. Staff were totally professional, caring and reassuring. My recovery has gone well and I would like to thank them all. What an amazing job it is that staff do.
