  1. Review titled Chaotic A&E

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Peter E - Posted on 10 December 2024

Having wasted my time going to the Petersfield drop-in centre with my elderly father, who had had a minor fall, and hurt his ear, they referred me to QA emergency now in the new building. It was frankly chaotic and so disappointing since we the taxpayer have spent millions on its construction and were promised so much. There is no proper queuing system at reception, it was very busy so people stand and wait, blocking the entrance. The reception staff are located behind glass screens creating an unfriendly barrier where anyone waiting is able to hear your personal information. There are microphones and speakers but it is difficult to hear what the staff are saying, and amazingly the microphones are attached to the glass with sticky tape! The waiting area is not big enough, a fairly obvious criticism of the old unit, hence it is still very over crowded with people sitting and standing in any position they can get, and not enough room for wheel chairs or mobility scooters to safely move. The whole flow seems to be wrong. Just talking to people around us it was obvious that the delays in consultation and treatment were quite ridiculous. Having waited for over three hours without a word from anyone my 97 year old father had simply had enough. If only communication or even an examination had been delivered at the same speed they gave us the discharge form when we left, I would have been very happy. The drop off area however is much better but hardly compensation for the rest of the experience.

  3. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Attended day surgery yesterday. Every single person i spoke to before and after surgery was happy, polite, kind, informative and made my visit much easier. Ive recently used private health care for a different matter and in my opinion the NHS was better admittedly a longer wait to get to this point but so much better than the service I have received privately

  4. Review titled An outstanding example of nursing care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Robert Wordsworth - Posted on 10 October 2024

After falling from a tall ladder whilst working on a gutter, I was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Care Centre at QA hospital a A few minutes after arrival 2 nurses triaged my situation which consisted of injuries to the forehead, nose and left hand. I was then assigned to a very experienced A&E nurse who cleaned up my blood stained face and hands, assessed the extent of the wounds. She concluded that my forehead needed stitching, my nose was probably broken and that I may have broken a bone in my wrist. A nurse practitioner then came to review the findings and, in view of the height from which I had fallen, 5-6m, conducted a further examination to see if there were any additional injuries. Finding, none, she asked the nurse to proceed with the stitching with locally applied lignocaine. She also arranged for a CT scan of the head and an X-Ray of my left wrist. Two nurses stitched up my head very neatly and then asked if we would like a cup of tea and sandwich while we waited for the scan. This and particularly the friendly attitude of all the staff was very much appreciated. I was later taken to the diagnostic imaging section for the scan and X-Ray which were carried out sequentially, again by very friendly staff. We had to wait possibly an hour for the results during which time we were offered another cup of tea! Another nurse practitioner then came to advise that the scan had confirmed that the nose was broken but there were no other head injuries. The X-Ray also confirmed that no-bones were broken in the wrist- I had been very fortunate on both counts. I want to express my thanks to all the staff involved for the very professional, caring and efficient treatment that my wife and I both received.

  6. Review titled Teamwork

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barry Stray - Posted on 30 October 2024

Would just like to say thank you for this awesome team in this department. From the moment I arrived till the time I left the department put you at ease and went through everything with you. All the team on the ward and the theatre team introduced themselves, explained everything that was going and helping each other, checking up on you and most importantly always having a smile on their face. You are all a credit to yourselves and take this opportunity to know that you do make a difference to peoples lives. From the tea lady (thanks for the extra sandwich) to the Consultant cardiologist you were all amazing. Reference the clothing I had to put on I did put the mesh item on my head as I thought that was what I had to wear in theatre but quickly saw the two holes and realized they were disposable underwear!! can you imagine opening the screens to that I would have so embarrassed but hilarious. Keep up the great work you all do I hope I never have to come back but if I do I know I would be in great hands. Thank you all Barry Stray

  7. Review titled Ward B4 disorganised and non communicative

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 October 2024

Was asked to reattend ward B4 after a visit prior to the weekend, and the Dr wanting to retest/review results. Attended at requested time. Left waiting for more than three hours. No water in the waiting room, no updates or communications and when requested the staff were rude and unhelpful. This needs resolving. No water in a ward waiting lounge for patients is unacceptable, it’s a basic! Being in a hospital is worrying enough without the staff being rude and unhelpful. Need to introduce some sort of update system or something. Being left waiting with no updates is very anxiety inducing. Especially since this is a gynaecology and early pregnancy ward.

Apologies as I sent review to the ambulance service assuming would be the same for the hospital staff... My family and I wish to communicate to the hospital that all of the staff who cared for my Nan, 20th Sept 24 - 25th Sept 24. From the accident and emergency department right through to the ward she was admitted to. All the care that was given was above and beyond from all staff!! So patient, compassionate, respectful and person centred- right up until when my Nan passed away. My family and I cannot say thanks enough for the care and support given throughout this awful time. You are all amazing and please pass this onto all of the staff involved. They must be recognised for their hard work and fulfilling their duty as care workers to the highest quality!!! Keep up the great work!!!

When my mother explained that she was told the receptionist words to her was ( you people make me laugh if you were told to go to b and q and have your head chopped off you would ) .the rudest receptionist ever disgusting behaviour. She should be sacked .

  10. Review titled a privilege to be treated in this hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by margaret ann parker - Posted on 21 September 2024

I was taken to the queen Alexandra emergency dept on the afternoon of 12th september after a fall in Fareham high street, an xray showed a fractured left patella, late on that evening i was admitted to ward d8, my whole experience of being of being in the hospital from start to my leaving on tuesday 17th september was something that i will remember for a long time, the nursing staff/orthopaedic doctors/physio staff were the most caring, kind, thoughtful people i could have wished to meet. As my blood pressure kept going down into my boots I was carefully monitored I was from Bristol on holiday in Hayling island, my family had to come to support my husband, who is 75 yrs old and not in the best of health, our whole experience was exemplary. 100 percent to Queen Alexandra hospital staff from cleaners upwards. well done from a very grateful family.
