  1. Review titled Scanning department really kind and patient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alison - Posted on 12 April 2024

Had to have an MRI and was very nervous having had a bad experience (at another hospital). Staff were very understanding and did everything they could to reassure me. The equipment was also more modern and much better for claustrophobics such as myself. Very grateful for the patience and kindness showed towards me. Thereafter had to have an ultrasound and biopsy. Again, I was extremely nervous but staff were very kind and understanding. I just wanted to say a big thank you, it's very much appreciated.

The care I received during my week stay in the Cardiac unit was outstanding. My daily updates with my Consultant were excellent. Delivered in a professional and caring way. Explaining everything in an easy to understand way. All the nurses were so kind and caring. It was a very well run Department and I was extremely impressed. Thank you all.

  3. Review titled Horrible, toxic work ethic. Untruths abound!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by David - Posted on 03 May 2024

I was Referred to Queen Alexandra for urgent, time critical nerve repair surgery. The 1st appointment offered was with a breast surgeon (!)’and was I informed that the registrar who had limited experience with this procedure would be performing my hand surgery! I questioned the wisdom of this rationale and was duly offered surgery with a specialist hand surgery consultant a week later. The original referring doctor was very clear in explaining that there is only a very limited window of opportunity for surgery to have any chance of a successful outcome - typically 2 weeks. The surgery offered was ten days since the injury so I was hopeful that a positive result might be achieved. I arrived at the hospital one full hour before my surgery appointment, was weighed, measured etc and told to put on a hospital gown whereupon I was directed to a waiting area. I waited patiently for over 7 hours until the waiting area closed and I was then taken to another waiting area. Finally, when I asked what was going on, I was told the registrar was on his way down to see me. At no time did I meet or speak with the surgeon, which is most unusual and most regrettable. The registrar finally showed up and with a smirk, told me they had run out of time! Trying to contact anybody to get a replacement surgery date was a frustrating excercise in total futility. Nobody, and I do mean nobody answers their phones! Promised call-backs never happen. In sheer desperation I contacted another renowned hospital and it was like a breath of fresh air. Phones answered promptly. They understood the time critical nature of what was needed, and everything was scheduled in sorted in short order. I could never recommend any procedure at this hospital. There is a shameful and toxic work ethic, (or lack of ethic), with a careless and cavalier attitude amongst almost all of those people I interacted with. If you want to feel you are in good hands, I’d advise for sanity’s sake, to go absolutely anywhere else and avoid this shambolic heartless, paradigm of appalling professional standards like the plague!

I attended the Urology dept. on 27/03/24 for a minor operation, under local anaesthetic, all of the staff that I met were excellent and put me at my ease, the Consultant and her operating staff were great at their parts in my operation. I was given all the information about my operation before during and after! All the other staff I encountered were also excellent! A big thanks to all the staff! I could not have asked for better treatment.

  8. Review titled Disinformation & management, backed up with kindness & care

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Called into Queen Alexandria Hospital with Immune Thrombopenia Purpura after a blood test earlier the same day and told both a clinical team and bed would be waiting. Neither were. I was at the hospital from 10pm to 1pm (15hrs). The Registrar was very friendly and answered all my questions during a thorough examination. Head scan was exercised and found to be clear. Steroids were prescribed but unavailable and had to be chased down. I received these around 5am, some 7hrs after arrival. I informed staff that I'd be leaving at midday. 10 blood phials were extracted around 10am and I received a prescription for steroids from another friendly Doctor who explained I have Immune Thrombopenia Purpura and the possible side affects of medication. My blood sugar was also tested. I spoke to yet another Doctor before my canula was removed and I left the hospital around 12.30pm. The Registrar, Doctor and especially the nursing staff were exceptional. No follow up (20/03/24) has yet been received.

  9. Review titled Terrible service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Ellie - Posted on 02 April 2024

I was in hospital with my partner after a 111 call being told to come immediately as he was being sick blood. Waited for hours for a blood test& x-ray& when in the blood test room we was told he could leave once he had the results. She would also call him by his middle name, which isn’t his name, and would call that in the waiting room. It wasn’t until I heard his middle& last names that I realised it was my partner being called and got him from outside as he was getting air. The lady gave the results to me so after, we left as she said we could On way home my boyfriend gets a call from the hospital asking where he is and he explained how the nurse who did his blood test (tried to add her name but won’t let me, if needed please email me) said he could go once he had the results, but they explained over the phone that if he is sick blood again in the next 48 hours to call an ambulance and be blue lighted to hospital& needed to take gaviscon for the next couple days to help him feel a bit better. Luckily, since my partner has felt better, but no thanks to the nurse who said he could go home! What if he was sick blood again? What if something was seriously wrong but she has told him to go home?? I think this is really unprofessional and needs to be looked into!!

  10. Review titled Great care and treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

my husband attended the Emergency Care Centre due to a skiing accident in which he’s broken his Tibia. He had spent time in a hospital in Bulgaria and they had made him comfortable to travel home. It was early evening by the time we got there and it was busy the team were amazing and thorough and kept us well informed. Surgeon came to discuss the next steps with us and plan of action. We have always had the most respect for NHS and there service but my husband was so grateful for the care he received after his experience in Bulgaria which medically they were correct, but the care wasn’t good. Thank you to the team at the emergency care unit.
