on the 04/09/2024 I came to the hospital to see emergency doctor there I refused to sit for another 2 and half hours next to the middle age generation there they illness badly affected surrounded visitors, for that reason I have decided to give my personal experience for a very old lady ,to jump into the '' sport club'' rather than sitting and doing nothing for several hours and draining energy from the others.

Mum of 85 years was taken in ambulance to A&E, in absolute agony in her femur, eventually had x-ray to show total break, they acted quite quickly then, unfortunately the morphine did not touch the pain, that was Sunday, Monday operated total new hip, plate in femur and wired, she was in ward 20 for almost 2 weeks , the care in that ward was brilliant, I did not have one moan, the ward was clean and tidy and the nurses were very kind Mum now in QE Sidcup for rehab, they to have been brilliant Thank you again

Dear Deborah, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about the care your mum received at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We are truly grateful for your kind words and are delighted to hear about your positive experience during what must have been a very stressful time for you and your family. It is heartening to know that our teams in the Emergency Department and Ward 20 were able to provide the care and support your mum needed following her femur fracture. We understand how critical timely and compassionate care is, particularly in emergency situations, and we’re pleased that her surgery and subsequent care went smoothly. Your comments about the cleanliness of the ward and the kindness of the nurses will be shared with the team on Ward 20, as such feedback means so much to them. We are also glad to hear that your mum’s rehabilitation at QMS Sidcup is going well and that the staff there have been brilliant in continuing her care. We wish her a smooth recovery and hope that she regains her strength and mobility soon. Your feedback will be shared with our teams to acknowledge their dedication and to inspire continued excellence in patient care. Additionally, we will draft a public response for the NHS and Care Opinion website that reflects your sentiments, ensuring your gratitude is visible to all who contributed to your mum’s care. If you have any further feedback or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you once again for your kind words. Warm regards Marcia Blackwood Matron

  3. Review titled Terrible

After sitting in A&E for 6 hours I walked out. I went to A&E for a suspected detached/tear in my retina. This condition is a medical emergency and yet 6 hours later after being triaged twice and a set of bloods taken I was still sat there. I was told the wait could be another hour or two. I appreciate that it’s a busy department but your triage is ridiculous. Why bloods tests when I have an eye problem? It’s a waste of resources. I have been to another A&E dept since and they dealt with the matter in the way it should have been. I now have a specialist looking at my eye. I will never return here again. Really poor facilities too.

With the complaint being anonymous and a date unknown it is difficult to be specific however I would like to offer an explanation for clarity. Firstly I am sorry that this patient feels his experience in our department was so awful. All patients presenting to the emergency department are first streamed by an urgent Care streamer in order to avoid inappropriate attendances to the ED. I am presuming that rather than being triaged twice this patient was initially seen by UCC and streamed back for an ED review, this process does not delay the patients journey as they are still seen by ED according to the time that they walked through the front door. Secondly, in an emergency department it is essential that patients are seen in order of clinical priority and not in order of attendance. Patients presenting to an emergency department are assessed and prioritised according to the Manchester Triage System. This is a clinical risk and management tool that helps ensure patient safety and enables emergency clinicians to safely manage patient flow when clinical need far exceeds capacity. Patients triaged as a category 1 or 2 are those requiring immediate treatment such as cardiac arrests or patients requiring resuscitation. This patient would have been assessed by a triage nurse and prioritised according to this tool. Without knowing patient specifics I am unable to explain why this patient needed blood tests however I would agree based on the initial presentation complaint this does seem unusual however he attended with a ? suspected retinal detachment and this had not been confirmed as a diagnosis, without the history I am unable to discern if there were alternative diagnosis's. Lastly, I would sincerely like to offer my apologies in regards to this complaint and the long wait times experienced. As a department we do everything in our power to reduce waiting times but unfortunately the demands on the service are sometimes higher than expected. We will ensure that this users experience will be shared with staff in order to improve services in the future and possibly prevent unrequired testing. Kind Regards Clair Casserly Staff Nurse

We had to go to children’s A&E and were admitted to Safari ward. All the staff we met whilst we were there were wonderful. The play team were brilliant and kept our son entertained and happy, one of the ladies even came to see us when we were on the ward and was so helpful. We did not have one negative experience with any staff we met. Every nurse and doctor explained everything to us clearly and fully and were very supportive and understanding. Overall, given the circumstances, we had a really positive experience and we are so grateful that both the Safari Ward and children’s A&E were so supportive. Thank you all.

  7. Review titled Word Salad and ugly bedside manner

Rated 1 star out of 5

I recently had a gynecological issue that required urgent attention. While the A&E staff were excellent, I found the response from the gynecology team to be somewhat disappointing. There seemed to be a delay in their involvement, which unfortunately extended my stay in the hospital. I understand that medical professionals are busy, but clear and concise communication about treatment plans would be beneficial. Additionally, the ability to answer patient questions with confidence is essential. Overall, while I appreciate the efforts of the medical staff, I believe there is room for improvement in terms of patient care and communication within the gynecology department.

  8. Review titled Extremely Rude Staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

I went to the hospital as I had all pregancy symptoms and after 6th week I start bleeding heavily. The emergency nurse was extremely rude and didn’t spend anytime listening time. She had zero empathy, gave no medicine. And I still have no answers to what happened. It’s still happening but she just didn’t help me.

Unprofessional attitude/ rudeness does not reflect on our department and the trust values. Rudeness of staff to patients is taken very seriously in the department. I have there sent a generic message reminding all staff of remaining professional and having empathy at all times. I am sorry the patient felt not been treated with empathy. Thank you. Congratulation-well done Doctor! I had a very positive outcome of the A & E Urgent Care Unit regarding my main concern how to reduce allergic reaction on my both legs. The night shift doctor been more than welcome with a pleasant manners to proceed prescription there I mostly need to stop itchy rashes on my skin and it worked ASAP .Thank you for your kindness and respectful job. 10. Review titled Horrific experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Wendy - Posted on 05 August 2024

I would like to share my feedback regarding my delivery and postnatal experience at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. When I reported that my water had broken, the midwives did not take my concerns seriously and insisted it was just the gel from a vaginal assessment. As a result, my child remained in the womb for nearly a day without amniotic fluid, eventually passing meconium in the womb. This situation led to an emergency c-section, which I believe could have been prevented with timely intervention. Post-delivery, I experienced a significant lack of support from the care assistants and staff. The staff often mentioned they were short-staffed, which impacted the level of care I received during a critical time. I hope that sharing this feedback will contribute to improvements in patient care and staffing at the hospital.
