Review titled No help
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anthony Mitchell - Posted on 10 October 2024
I was referred to orthopaedics by my gp. That department failed to answer the phone to her, so she told me that I had to attend Qeqm A&e, she apologised for the fact that it would take many hours. When I eventually saw an orthopaedic registrar, he looked, felt and photographed my knee, told me nothing - no diagnosis, no prognosis, no advise, no treatment. He said he would discuss my case with his consultant at the meeting the next morning, and walked away. He did not refer me back to nurse, just left me. I asked him what would happen next and he advised me I would get a text, message or email after that meeting. So far , 6 days later, I have received nothing. My condition continues, I can’t get to see my Gp for 2 weeks and their reception suggests that I go to …… A&e who clearly can’t do anything for me. The record on my NHS app makes no reference to my visit to Qeqm, so I can’t refer to that to see whether there are are helpful notes on that which might help me. The entire experience was disgraceful.

Dear Mr Mitchell, Thank you for passing on your feedback. I am however so sorry that this was the experience you had when using our Orthopaedics service. I completely empathise with you, this is not the way we would expect our patients to be treated. Communication is always key and I will be feeding this back to the department. In the meantime have you now received a text/email or message? If not please email my team which is the Patient Voice & Involvement Team via our email address which is: ekhuft.patientvoice@nhs.net We will try to assist you. Kind regards Josh Page (Patient Feedback Co-ordinator)

Review titled Had me in stitches!
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Michael Patrick O'Hara - Posted on 25 October 2024
On the 24th October, because of my chronic stupidity, I fell from a ladder whilst strimming the top of a high bush in our garden. I landed on concrete and amongst minor injuries I also hit the right side of my head which received a large cut and bled profusely. My wife and daughter helped me whilst we waited for the ambulance. The two ladies who crewed the ambulance treated me with great care and good humour and then took me to the hospital. The team in Resuscitation were excellent. Highly professional and thorough. I needed a good number of stitches plus a couple of scans before I was discharged. The head dressing made me look like a smurf but throughout the whole procedure everybody in the unit was excellent ,from the medical team to the caterers who saw that I had a cuppa and a sandwich. If the review allowed me to name them I would do so , but I can only say that they were fantastic. Thank you all - you had me literally in stitches!

Review titled Another great experience at my blood test
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Linda - Posted on 17 September 2024
Due for review blood tests. Seen early by calm, competent and reassuring phlebotomist. She was kind and took account of my nervousness. The procedure was quick and painless. There was no bruising. A perfect experience.

Review titled The Observation Ward
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Sophie W - Posted on 08 September 2024
I was transferred to the Observation Ward after a brief time in A&e. The porters, nursing staff and doctor were all friendly and empathic. They genuinely seemed to care about making sure everyone felt comfortable and were looked after. I have had some fairly negative experiences with nhs services recently but I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here today. The only issue was that one of the bathrooms wasn’t the cleanest, but there was nothing else I could fault.

Review titled Follow up from previous review
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Vivienne Shelley - Posted on 27 July 2024
Having now been discharged I would like to follow up on my previous review. The care I received was 2nd to none. The only problem I can see is it would be nice if like me your diabetic the food could do with stating how many carbohydrates are in it. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 57 years and know how to carb count but people who are new to it may find it hard.

I was bought to a & e by ambulance, after a few falls. Went straight to resus then Majors then AMU and finally Birchington and I don't have a bad word to say about my experience or care. I'm still there now, the staff are really lovely, they respond to your requests quickly and explained everything to you. Not sure I could do their job, I wouldn't like to look after me! Keep it qeqm you're amazing.

I went in for day surgery on a 2 week pathway supported by my son We could not have wished for a better service from the pre-op assessment in Birchington Ward to day surgery every clinician was thorough, efficient, professional but also very thoughtful and caring - it is important for them to know their service is very much appreciated

Review titled Exemplary care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jane W - Posted on 09 July 2024
I was seen in the Endoscopy Unit and subsequently admitted to Acute Medical Unit. I received wonderful care in both departments and every member of staff I encountered treated me with warmth, kindness and respect. I am hugely grateful to the QEQM, and would like to thank them for all the important work that they do, sometimes in trying and difficult circumstances.

Review titled Never again
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 September 2024
I am a disabled pensioner. I arrived in good time for my appointment I was directed by the receptionist to the department which appeared to be on the very far side of the hospital, I walked with increasing pain only to find on arrival there was a car park right outside the department I could have used had either the appointment letter or receptionist mentioned it. Because of the distance I had walked and my condition I was 20 minutes late and the doctor refused to see me, he sent a letter to my GP stating I was 40 minutes late. So my "urgent" GP referral is now 8 months old with no new appointment date given. I could have understood I'd missed my appointment but actually lying to my GP has left me with zero confidence this is the hospital to address my condition.
