  1. Review titled Fantastic Service from People Under Pressure

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 February 2023

First off, parking is a nightmare as always but due to the location there is little that can be done about this. Visited A&E and through every step the staff were brilliant - from the team on door/reception helping to book you in and direct you, the triage nurses, the doctors and the radiology staff. Everyone of them is working under unimaginable pressures and yet each was kind, caring and knowledgeable. My total stay was around 7 hours involving a multitude of tests, after which I was discharged with clear instructions on what my next steps should be. Sincere thanks to all the staff who need our support more than ever. The A&E department is a credit to the hospital.

  2. Review titled Poor service

I was supposed to have my appointment today at 2.15pm - got there early knowing the car park situation but I wasn’t prepared for what I had to do. 40min driving around in circles, looking for a space where I could park my car, until I had to call the clinic to cancel my appointment. The lady said she could give me 15min extra and they will be waiting for me, but I told her that I was exhausted and just wanted to leave. I honestly don’t understand how they can even think of charging people for a parking spot if there isn’t any. I had to take few hours off from work for nothing and call my Gp asking to refer me to another hospital. Feel sorry for all those people that have a life threatening condition and have to go through the parking spot hell before their visit. Never again!!

The people who work on the telephone exchange just don’t appear to want to help. I rang to speak to the physiotherapist department and got “they are busy” then who ever it was put the phone down . If people who’s main role is to interact with the general public don’t really want to help then change your job. The hospital is generally excellent but if the first point of contact is rude it’s not a good impression with which to start.

  5. Review titled First class servicr

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul Betts - Posted on 05 January 2023

Having spent 16 days in hospital over Christmas and new year in the CCU ward and Medical Assessment Wards I would personally like to thank all of the staff from the cleaners, nurses and support staff right through to the consultants for their 1st class service. Absolutely fantastic service including the hospitals phone call the following day to check on me. If I had gone private I doubt that I would have had better service. The meals I received were all first class with no complaints. I feel you all deserve a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart. Best regards and thank you Paul Betts

  6. Review titled Car Park

Rated 4 stars out of 5

This needs seriously reviewing. Cars are parking anywhere (not in parking bays) and blocking cars in that have parked correctly. I have just witnessed this and went to help a stressed lady who was unable to get out due to inconsiderate people parking there cars.

  7. Review titled Excellent medical care, but understaffed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Patricia C - Posted on 25 September 2022

I had to spend time in A&E Thursday early hours til afternoon for 13 hours. Although I had a long wait, I cannot fault the kindness, and professional treatment I received from all staff involved. The department was relatively busy. When I was in triage I was told there would be a 10 hour wait. When I did get to see the nurses and doctors they were apologetic about the long wait. I felt they were doing their very best to treat people despite the department being understaffed. It is just a shame that patients had an extremely long wait, obviously due to low staffing levels. I was lucky that I had my husband with me and he went several times to fetch us a cup of tea and something to eat from the hospital cafe - the coffee machine in A&E was out of order and the only edible things to buy were confectionery. People on their own had no way of getting some proper food during the 12+ hour wait. A lady with a tea trolley did appear once in the morning, but no one after that (I was discharged around 5 pm Thursday having spent 13 hours in the department).

  9. Review titled Recommendations

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I was sorry that, in her last 10 days of life, my Mum had to wait 13 hours in A&E after shielding for months, then was transferred to 4 different wards / rooms before being moved to a hospice for just one night. Every ward was different (one being for dementia patients) and none were cancer wards, which she was suffering from. All her notes and prescribed drugs had to be transferred each time, and prescriptions re ordered which took time, and there seemed to be some gaps in communication. I felt I had to be her advocate and speak for her as she quickly went from being very alert, fully compus mentus and very physically capable to being very weak. Nurses were very kind and worked really hard as wards seemed short staffed. Mum wanted to eat but it seemed a long time until the decision was made to put anti nausea drugs via a pump into her stomach. One ward was giving solid food and nurses didn't have much time to help feed or mash food. I was sorry I couldn't visit during mealtimes to help. No feed drip was offered and IV drip was withdrawn until I asked for it to be reinstated, as I knew she hadn't kept liquids down. I am sure there were good reasons why certain medical decisions were made (and I know there are time limitations for busy staff) but I would have appreciated more communication as to reasons for treatment and withdrawal of treatment, and care choices. I am also sorry that I wasn't with her when she was told she only had weeks or months to live, though I visited almost every hour during visiting times. The breast-care nurse seemed difficult to get hold of and I valued any time any staff found to give me updates, as I found that to be very supportive during an emotional and difficult time.

  10. Review titled Ridiculous wait times

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 September 2022

I am currently sat in A&E with my 78 year old father who fell & hit his head on concrete sufferring a nasty cut & severe concussion resulting in him being in a state of unconciousness forva significant amount of time. We arrived at A&E at 4pm & its currently 4am the following morning. We are yet to see a doctor who we believe to be the only doctor on duty. One doctor to look after a waiting room so full that hospital security is now removing the patients accompanying family members to make room for more patients to arrive in the crowded waiting room. I don’t doubt the nurses & doctors work tirelessly, however, there are obviously not enough of them and/or the management of the A&E is sub standard. Next time me or my family are in need of A&E we will travel further afield to a different hospital as it quite honestly cannot be worse. Lastly, please don’t bother replying with the stock answer that I have seen throught these reviews, this is more to warn other people & encourage them to go elsewhere.
