  1. Review titled Helpful Volunteer

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the infirmary today via Taxi for a Pet-ct Scan, and having not been to the Wigan Hospital before, I did not know where I was going. Upon approaching the desk near the main entrance and asking where to go, I was greeted by two volunteers, one who had only started the day before, both were friendly and helpful, with the new volunteer walking me over to where I needed to go, she was so friendly, and a credit to your team. Scan went well, all the staff very pleasant and caring, a lovely hospital with an old feeling, and nostalgic which I like. Special thanks to your volunteer, I am sure she will do well in her new role.

  2. Review titled Centre of excellence

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was a patient in Stepping Hill Hospital, needed an angiogram and was transferred to to the Cardiac Catheter Unit. From arrival, and all the way through the procedure, the way I was dealt with could not have been bettered. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very professional in their attitude. The consultant explained the procedure before I entered the theatre and again just before the procedure started. This was a team who obviously enjoyed working together. Everyone new their roles and performed them with remarkable efficiency. The aftercare I received as excellent and friendly. I could not have found treatment such as this anywhere in the private sector. The team are to be congratulated for their attitude, professionalism and humour!

  4. Review titled Attentive Staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Unfortunately suffered a heart attack end of June .The Ambulance arrived very quickly and got me into hospital in a safe and professional manner. Spent a night in Lowton ward ,then a couple off nights in CCU.All your staff are a credit to the NHS and I can't speak highly enough of them. Apparently my review won't be posted if I put people's names on, pity as I have nothing but praise for them, especially the staff in the CCU,they made a worrying time easier. I truly hope when they got home they realise at least I and I'm sure many more appreciate them beyond words. Thanks Ian

  5. Review titled Outstanding Surgical Team/Drs

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Thank you to the brilliant surgical team and doctors who did emergency laparotomy the same day I was admitted. They were really amazing. I’m so grateful to each and everyone one of them. However some staff on the ward were appalling. Mainly the qualified nursing staff on nights who completely lacked empathy and understanding. It was clear that they didn’t want to be at work which makes me question why choose to be a nurse. It was absolutely awful and I dreaded nights as did many other patients on Orrell Ward. It’s a long night when you are so unwell and vulnerable and made to feel on edge having nurses who just didn’t care. I would not recommend Orrel Ward. I

  6. Review titled Outstading Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Leah - Posted on 28 June 2024

In May 2024 I was sent for emergency Surgery. I spent 3 days in Swinley ward, and a nights stay a few days prior to this. The care I received from all on Swinley, the team in recovery, theatre and the amazing Consultant / Surgeons was outstanding. The team went above any beyond to cater to my every need. I received only the best care from every single person I met. Royal Albert Edward Infirmiry saved my life and I will forever be greatful to them. Special mention to the ladies in recovery who made myself and my family feel so reassured and cared for, at a time when I was at my most vulnerable.

  7. Review titled Amazing Staff, so kind and caring.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Admitted with fractured leg and knee. Cannot praise the staff highly enough. The care I received from the corridor in A&E where I spent 24 hours to Swinley and Aspull wards. Ambulance crews. Porters, kitchen staff, nurses, doctors, my consultant, theatre staff, fracture clinic staff. The list is endless. They are all absolute angels who do the job for the love of it. They all work so very hard for so little reward. This was my first time in hospital and it opened my eyes to exactly how hard they all work. They deserve so much more recognition. I was treated with such care and kindness. Can never thank them enough.

  8. Review titled Great dental department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mary Morris - Posted on 23 May 2024

Yesterday I had a planned dental extraction. I got in the surgery 5 minutes before time, and all was completed in 20 minutes. All the staff were excellent, totally proffesional throughout but so kind and caring. I have chronic fatigue and a lot of dizziness when lying flat. They accommodated that and allowed me to sit up during the proceedure, I was so grateful, nothing was too much trouble. I felt they really cared, thank you, I shall be sending a letter of thanks to the Dr and nurses concerned.

  9. Review titled Parking

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Peter Rosbottom - Posted on 31 May 2024

I had an appointment at 14 15 hrs, having arrived at the hospital at 13 15, knowing parking is a problem, I toured all parking areas again and again. Both my wife and I have problems with mobility and hold a blue badge but could not find a suitable place. We ended up parking a long way from where we needed to be and by the time we had made our way to my appointment were both in a terrible state.

  10. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Derric - Posted on 16 April 2024

I recently had an unplanned stay in the coronary care unit at Wigan Infirmary. The care I received was first class from all the staff and doctors. I can't praise them enough. The ward was spotless and the staff were lovely. They were all a credit to their profession.
