  1. Review titled Great staff

by MazMigd - Posted on 05 May 2023

I dislocated my knee and the ambulance were great and once in a&e the ambulance stayed with me and the staff for a while helping. The staff at Wigan were lovely and had good energy. The pain relief was well medicated and looked after. The accident occurred at 5:20pm, i was at the hospital by 7pm and got discharged between 12-2am. Happy with the service and grateful.

  2. Review titled Great maternity care throughout

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Catherine Hudson - Posted on 15 July 2023

We had a great experience with Wigan Maternity services throughout our journey from early pregnancy to being discharged to the Health Visitor. We mostly saw the same midwife for each appointment, and that consistency meant that we could build a good relationship and she knew us well. They identified and acted promptly on a possible growth restriction, and they arranged for me to see another doctor when I was unsure whether induction was the right thing to do. My midwife even took my phone call on her day off to arrange for this! Growth scans were timely which helped with anxiety. I felt in competent hands throughout and every midwife had excellent communication skills to help reassure us, check our understanding and importantly, make the experience positive and happy! I had some anxieties about my own health in the lead up to the birth- these were listened to and nothing was too much. At the birth I reacted strongly to induction and baby’s heart rate decreased. This was acted on promptly and I felt that me and baby were safe. I believe the right decisions were made, but crucially I felt in control and that I could make my own choices. I’d love to thank people personally for their excellent care. I know how hard everyone works and it really does make a difference, thank you!!!

  3. Review titled Amazing care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Patricia Hesketh - Posted on 25 February 2023

Our son-in-law was admitted onto the respiratory ward from A & E. From the moment he was admitted onto the ward he was looked after by the most amazing respiratory and Haematology consultants. Tests were carried out every day and eventually a diagnosis was reached. The nursing staff also went above and beyond the call of duty in every way. As a family we would like to thank each and every one of you for the way you looked after our son-in-law and kept our daughter informed every step of the way and nothing was ever too much trouble We will never forget your kindness & dedication in a very stressful situation. We could not have had any better care. Thanks again to you all.

Impossible to park at this hospital.Even in the surrounding streets, you are unable to park without a permit. After travelling all the way from Altrincham to visit a friend on the ward,we had to turn back without seeing him. What a wasted journey!

  5. Review titled Terrible parking

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Visiting sick parent. Spent 1 hour circling for a parking space. Missed the 1 hour visiting by half an hour. (Tried the street parking but also none). Had to go a mile up the road and walk to make the last 30mins visiting (which isnt enough time when you need to speak to doctors). Very stressful. There is not enough parking available for visitors

  6. Review titled Inadequate and uncaring staff.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 January 2023

Shevington Ward, staff focused on avoiding care or engagement with patients. Requests for assistance go ignored, yet always plenty of nursing staff availible to 'police' visiting times. Meals left unattended, with no apparent attempt to encourage consumption. No updates or information regarding treatment or status fourth coming when enquiries made. Treatment and conditions fall well below the high standards provided elsewhere at this hospital site.

  7. Review titled Children’s A&E & rainbow ward

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rosie - Posted on 06 February 2023

We brought our 10 week old son into A&E after he presented symptoms of something being seriously wrong, within minutes of seeing him the triage team in A&E got him started on antibiotics and treated him for worse case scenario (sepsis) straight away, we were then moved up onto rainbow wars within 3 hours of getting to the hospital, within 24 hours we had a confirmed diagnosis of meningitis and luckily we had got him there and the staff treated him so quickly that he should make a full recovery, I’ll be forever grateful to both the nurses and doctors in A&E & rainbow ward for saving his life

Son in law came to A & E at an extremely busy time. Eventually he was given an x ray and was admitted onto a respiratory ward. Thank you to A & E for realising it was a serious illness and admitting him onto such a fabulous ward. Please let the dept know we are very grateful to them for the way they dealt with our son in law.

  9. Review titled Poor hospital

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 March 2023

My auntie was admitted to hospital on the 30th December, she sadly passed away on the 31st still in a&e. The only way the family found out she had died was when I drove up to the hospital in the afternoon. No one was informed of her death. After speaking to someone in the care home she lived in a nurse in the home informed me that she rang the hospital a number of hours after my auntie died to be told she was being discharged??

  10. Review titled Frustrating for staff and patients alike

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Phil - Posted on 03 January 2023

My mum went to A&E on 27.11.22 by ambulance. We followed up in the car and could not park at the hospital or on Wigan Lane. Definitely more on site parking required. Arrived to find the corridors overflowing with patients and mum joined the queue. Ambulance staff stayed with her and I have to say all the ambulance staff were fantastic and doing a great job. Corridor nurses had been deployed and I have to say the whole of the nursing staff were fantastic- I have only one negative comment and that is that communication could be better. I appreciate the staff are busy but no-one came to see us to tell us what was happening and when we asked no-one seemed to know. Overall mum was on a corridor for 24 hours under full lighting and general hustle and bustle of a busy area, she was only about 30 yards from the main A&E waiting room so she found it difficult to rest. she went on a ward the following day and the area was very good (Standish Ward) Positives hardworking staff - including ambulance crews - negatives were the wait on corridors, noise and full lighting which for an 85 year old was hard. Communication could be improved. Overall conclusion was that staff did their best and were lovely and hardworking but our experience highlighted the shameful under funding of the NHS by successive governments. Please pass on our thanks to the staff in A&E and Standish Ward
