  1. Review titled Absolute angels and I cannot be more grateful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Hollie Ridges - Posted on 10 December 2022

I was booked in for induction 15/11 as I was nearly 2 weeks overdue. They were super prompt in finding me a bed in marsh ward. The midwives were lovely and got the induction process moving quickly. They discussed my options and I opted for the balloon . This has to remain for 24 hours before next assessment. I was given the option to go home for this time, or to stay in hospital. I chose to stay in hospital in case anything happened (I.e balloon coming out) My partner was allowed to stay while I was there which was lovely. When I was ready for delivery, I was taken to the delivery suite where 2 (again lovely) midwives stayed with me the whole 9 hour labor, they monitored me and baby constantly and kept me informed as there were several potential complications they were keeping a close eye on. My natural birth turned into an emergency c-section due to further complications and the whole team were just amazingly quick to act and to deliver my baby as safely as possible. They kept me informed of everything happening. I was rushed into theatre within minutes of the decision being made where the surgical team were waiting and didn’t waste a single minute. My baby girl was safely delivered and I was sutured up within 20 minutes of entering. Absolutely incredible surgical team. I was then taken to iffley ward where I stayed for a further 2 nights. The midwives were incredible. There was one midwife in particular( I called her my angel ) who really looked after me, from helping me clean myself up changing my padded underwear. To realising I was shattered and taking my daughter away for a couple of hours to feed and look after so I could get some sleep. And just being super chatty and friendly. My blood pressure etc was monitored regularly to make sure I was ok. My daughter was monitored closely too. They came to every alarm call, yes, you could be waiting a few minutes at a time, but these nurses were absolutely rushed off their feet . They were all working so hard. The care I received from all the staff in all the departments of maternity was outstanding and although my birth plan didn’t go according to plan, they all played their part in making me feel safe, secure and making the experience as stress free as possible. I cannot thank the team enough. We really need to protect our nhs workers. They have an extremely demanding job, and just work their butts off . Thank you again to everyone involved who delivered my baby girl and looked after me. You’re all hero’s in my eyes x

  3. Review titled Appointment letter

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 November 2022

I received a generic letter advising I had an appointment on 10/11. It wasn’t clear what the appointment was for. It transpired it was for a procedure but it would have saved me a phone call if the letter had stated that.

  4. Review titled Lucky to have such a great hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Naomi - Posted on 29 November 2022

I came to A&E on 30th Oct as I had a painful swelling in my face near my gland and ear and the pain was becoming unbearable. I was seen about 8 hours after arriving and the Doctor sent me to get scanned and then referred to the Dorrell Ward. The treatment, care, kindness and professionalism was so impressive from everyone I came into contact with. I was in a lot of pain and was given codeine and although I had to discharge myself having been on a drip of antibiotics, they told me I could come back should I need to. Have been meaning to share this positive review since then. I made full recovery (the antibiotics worked after a few days) and I am just grateful to the people there at RBH. Thanks so much.

  6. Review titled Wait times too long with no expectations or treatment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 October 2022

Came in with complaint of painful abdomen. Triage and bloods within 30 minutes - great. No expectation set or offered when asked for how long until a diagnosis. 4 hours later still nothing. Haven’t eaten or taken meds and haven’t been told what I can and can’t do or offered anything. Sleep deprived, in pain in a growing room with no updates offered. This can’t be good enough.

Dear Patient, Thank you very much for providing feedback about the Emergency Department (A&E). We are very sorry to hear about your recent experience and Matron for A&E has shared your review with the triaging team to ensure that they provide an idea of waiting times and expectations when triaging. A&E will soon be getting screens that will provide live and up-to-date information on waiting times and what is happening within the department, which will hopefully improve the patient experience and help with expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies for your experience. Patient Experience Team, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

  7. Review titled Human and empathetic care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 October 2022

Visited A&E with my poorly 5 year old. Have nothing but good things to say about the experience from the receptionist to the doctor. We are being transferred to the JR but while we wait the nurse bought me a cup of tea and a sandwich. Small acts of human kindness go such a long way for a desperately worried Mummy in the middle of the night. The doctor was charming with my son despite him being very grumpy. NHS staff are angels who walk the earth. Thank you Royal Berks.

  8. Review titled NHS at its best.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John - Posted on 12 October 2022

Visited The Eye Accident and emergency clinic 11 October in the afternoon. I was triaged within a few minutes to assess my eye injury. I sat for a few minutes after and was asked how painful is my injury on a scale 1-10 by a nurse, within a few more minutes I was called by a Doctor. A thorough examination of my eye was performed and drops administered, to reduce the pain. I was released with a further checkup in two weeks. What else can I say. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are everything I hoped for. NHS Staff at every level helped me find the clinic when I could not see or find you, offering me a wheel chair etc. The receptionist was empathetic and understanding ...the Nurses were exemplary professionals, the Eye Doctor conducted my tests with empathy and the professionalism expected , even the consultant came to confirm the diagnosis and clear me to go home. You you all touched my soul. Please accept my deepest thanks.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had two unco-ordinated hospital appointments on the same day at different hospitals. The ENT nurse and consultant were very accommodating to ensure that I could manage this. They were very efficient, extremely caring and informative and I was pleased to receive my clinical letter the same evening.
