  1. Review titled Fantastic care and caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Stacey Bates-Robinson - Posted on 18 November 2022

I attended recently with my Daughter who was very unwell. She is not very good with needles and was quite anxious about attending. The staff where so caring and friendly putting her at ease. The department was extremely busy, however even in these circumstances the care and compassion she received was fantastic. We greatly appreciate all they did.

  3. Review titled 28 Hours on a trolley in a corridor.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Recovering from Bowel Cancer - Posted on 13 October 2022

After being taken to A&E by blue light ambulance at 08:45 I was pushed to the side in a corridor. Next day at 13:00 I was discharged by a Doctor. No treatment was received personal health care was not given. Arrived home to a phone call looking for me as my hospital bed was ready. After 28 hours on a trolley. Unfortunately I was informed that as I had been discharged I would have to repeat the whole process over again. Disgraceful service it was not Safe Effective or Personal.

  5. Review titled No compassion or understanding

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 October 2022

Children’s assessment unit and ward , 2 ward sisters terrible attitude no care or compassion shown in distressing circumstances, they really need to attend communication training and dealing with upset relatives and and reflect on how they deal with families and not be rude and uncaring, I am a nurse and was shocked at their behaviour.

  6. Review titled Superb care from this entire team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Francis S Broadhurst - Posted on 22 September 2022

I was admitted for turp surgery at 07 am 12-9-2022 the whole experience was excellent from admission to pre operation checks by the nurse, the anaesthetist, the surgeon and all of the theatre staff. The professional consideration shown was all about care, clearly the skills demonstrated by the whole surgical team was awesome. I was similarly impressed by the dedicated professionalism of all grades in b14 critical and b20 where the whole experience related to my comfort and recovery. I simply cannot thank you all enough.

  7. Review titled Improvements Required

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 August 2022

    1. Too long a wait at reception to register and insufficient help/instructions to use self -registration i pads. 2.First Triage contact took 3 hours . 3. Appt with urgent care made by triage, that service ran smoothly but thought it inappropriate that the Doctor I saw expressed her frustration with my GP for sending me to A and E in the first place. I avoided going to A and E under my own steam but when my GP said I should go I went in good faith and while I could see how busy staff were, felt a Dr expressing their frustration with me the patient was inappropriate. These issues need taking up with the GP directly if there are differences of opinion .

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on NHS Website about your recent visit to the Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. I am extremely sorry to hear of your recent experience and have fed your comments back to the senior staff and the Head of Nursing- Emergency and Acute Pathway. Confirmation has been provided that in line with other Trusts, the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centres and Minor Injuries Unit are all experiencing a huge influx of patients attending and have seen waiting times exceed the 4-hour target on a regular basis. The number of patients waiting to book into our Urgent Treatment Centres has also risen dramatically and we have seen long queues stretching outside of the hospital foyers which is unacceptable but unfortunately not always unavoidable. We are currently striving to implement additional tools and services to resolve this situation and ensure we deliver safe, personal, and effective care to all our patients and reduce the distress and frustration caused due to long waiting times. The Emergency Department meet with the Trust Executive Team every morning at 08:15 to look at the current capacity versus demand with actions required. There is as a member of the Emergency and Acute Directorate Senior Management Team on duty 7 days a week to support patient experiences and medical staff. We have also increased our nursing and medical staffing to support demand, this is variable due to the number of vacancies nationally of nursing and medical staff. We have recently introduced this web-based tool, which is designed by NHS Digital, to support clinical decision making at both of our Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC) at Blackburn, Burnley and Accrington to ensure patients get the right treatment at the right time to meet their clinical needs. The tool will guide the patient through a series of questions to assess and prioritise their condition. Once this information is gathered, we will be able to determine whether the patient needs to be seen immediately or if they can be asked to return at a later, appointed time. This initiative is currently being rolled out nationally and it is expected to reduce crowding in the waiting areas making it much safer for patients and colleagues. Many thanks again for taking the time to provide your feedback. Sarah Ridehalgh Patient Experience Facilitator

  8. Review titled Wonderful and very caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carolyn Miller - Posted on 22 July 2022

After being let down by emergency dentist who refused to see my little 5 year old grandson who had developed a worrying dental abcess with fever and pain I can't thank this department enough! The surgeon who treated him was wonderful and arranged an emergency removal of tooth as well as pain relief and antibiotic treatment. In addition the staff were lovely and caring not only looking after my grandson but also his mum, making sure she was OK too. I can't thank you all enough.
